In the first game, you conceded at a point where you weren't dead. You still had a chance at the combo with the simulacrum in hand and the molten reflection in the deck, plus the arcane intellect from the cabalist's tome. Yes, it was a gamble on the next 4 cards, but you still had a chance.

exodia mage isn't an easy deck to play. unless you practice with it, you will lose a shit ton. believe me. trying to climb through ladder with exodia mage is useless unless you're really fucking good, considering the amount of aggro in meta. token druid, for some reason still pirate warrior, hunter decks in general. I could go on. it's not just a cheese deck it requires great reads on your opponent, and reads on your win conditions, with a level of preciseness that is not found in meta decks right now. pick up the deck. try it. then come and talk some shite brev
@maxwu41457 жыл бұрын
Ryukagan Zero you sound like a salty quest mage main who thinks it takes skill to play solotaire with your freeze cards

actually i usually main miracle rogue or dragon paladin. just have respect for the deck is all, having played it quite a bit. you sound like someone who has never tried the deck and is just salty you keep playing into frostnovas and blizzards.
@maxwu41457 жыл бұрын
Ryukagan Zero how should i play around frostnova/blizzard? These are the 3 scenarios i go in with quest mage 1. Go wide on the board, hoping for no frost nova 2. Do nothing and let them get closer to there combo 3.playing a control deck and have not enough minions that apply pressure, allowing more turns for my inevitable OTK. So as you can see, the only real counter to quest mage is aggro. And that sucks because i hate aggro, but i might start playing aggro for the soul purpose of defeating this scumbag deck. Oh did i mention ice block haha. A card that should read "oh you wanted a honorable win this turn well to bad you cant."

Now that we have both Exodia Mage and Paladin, I wonder how long til we get an Exodia mechanic for all the other classes? It could be argued we had that for Priest already, but that was a LOT more convoluted and I don't think was really an Exodia style thing per-say.

Eh, quest mage is a lot more interactive than rogue was. Quest Rogue was super frustrating because it was usually either "oh, quest rogue...this is an auto win, why aren't they conceding?" or "oh, quest rogue, guess I'm losing this one", since the matchups were super polarized. But I just beat quest mage this morning with my no-ultimate jade druid, even though it's supposed to be a druid counter...it feels to me like there's still play and counter-play.

Hey guys how's it going Kripparrian here today I wanna give you guys the highlights of my games playing QUEST mage, quest mage is one of the funnest decks to play umm I tought the quest to be kind of busted and well it seems like it's getting there right now while quest mage is really bad against some of the aggressive deck out there because the aggressive decks with each expansion get more aggressive and it was always bad against it and now it's just really horrible like if you play you place quest mage you're going to win close to none of your games against a decent opener from an aggregate close to none alright? be horned. Butt actually do pretty well against fluids now the part that I really enjoy about quest mage more than any other deck it's a really high skill deck trying to figure out your wind conditions and just like seeing them as they cum knowing when it's too late to go for the conventional combo and pushing for really like the few percentage points and actually getting there this is the type of deck that I think your going to win considerably more if you play well and I think you're going to get some of that in required info and practice throught watching the games to come some of these games are my first few some of them are my last few I think my play with quest mage has improved drastically I think my win rate with the deck is probably not much over 50% but I think if I would go back and play that same number THOSE Same games even I probably pushing like 60 maybbe 70% winrate I think playing the deck a couple dozen times got a lot better at it and experience counts for a lot while certainly OTK non attractive combos are one of the bad things in hearthstone I'd say an even rarer thing is a deck that actually rewards you with results for playing well and this is certainly that you hate the Druids this is the deck to play maybe not necessarily my list but it worked out for me enjoy the games hope you learned something and I'll see you guys in a bit

@erich13807 жыл бұрын
Sparky9249 impossible to pull off combo once apprentice got sheeped
@l3m0ntea7 жыл бұрын
i think a way to fix this is perhaps to change how ice block interacts. it can still win jade druid but not be so overpowered over others. my idea is to make ice block activates when the damage overkills u (jade druid summon big minions that usually overkills u) but doesn't activate if it's an exact lethal. this makes others require more skill to play around exodia mage yet making it still possible to win.
@FunkyGhostHD7 жыл бұрын
l3m0ntea That was... "Not intelligent" at best. Jade Druid usually summons 7/7 , 8/8s in the late game anyway, so it is insta win for Druid and actually other classes too since Hunters can get big Hyenas or simply two Hyemanes on the board and control classes like Priest and Warrior can drop like 4-5 8-9 mana drops in the late game so it is auto win for them again and with other Mages, including Burn, can, simply, burn you out with Fireballs and Pyroblasts. Sorry but your argument makes no sense to me.

@dfnt127 жыл бұрын
You still could have won the first game. Just play the simulacrum on the sorcerer's apprentice (you don't have to play it on the same turn as the rest of your combo) and play the ice block. Then on the next turn, play out the pieces of your combo that you have and the quest reward and pray you get the last molten reflection. You'll have 4 draws (AI + 2 draws), 6 if you get the other AI, plus babbling book/primordial glyph RNG to get another molten reflection or more AIs
@dfnt127 жыл бұрын
Also you probably want to run two Ghastly conjurers. Those mirror images are super useful, especially against aggro. Use it with frost nova or blizzard against classes with weapons/chargers to preserve your block (super relevant against aggro). Or with a doomsayer if you don't draw the freeze or you think you need to save it for a later turn I also run frostbolts. It helps with aggro matchups, and if you can't manage to draw the full combo, frost bolt + 3 fireballs, + 3 sorcerer apprentices hitting face is 30 dmg, so you can OTK with just 3 of the 4 apprentices.

this deck doesn't actually require as much skill as he makes it out to require all you have to do to win with it is spam card draw freeze effects and ice block until you pull both sorcerers apprentices and Antonidas you might be thinking "but what about completing the quest???" Easiest quest to complete once you get down your sorcerers apprentices you just spam cabalists tome and glyph Every time I have played against this deck I have them and i'm destroying them but because they get an extra 6 turns by spamming blizzard frost nova and ice block I can't do anything (and trust me at least half of the "random" spells he gets from the effects will be cabalists time ice block or frost nova)

Its from yugioh where if you get all parts of exodia together you instantly win or something
@Bahatmogan7 жыл бұрын
The name "Exodia" comes from the card game Yu-Gi-Oh. It was a set of 5 cards that formed an entity known as Exodia. When all 5 cards are played, the player automatically wins. The name applies here because the mage combo is a set of 6 cards (Antonidas, 2x Sorcerer's apprentice, 2x Molten Reflection, Time warp) that when played with an activator spell at the end allows the player to cast infinite fireballs, which is basically an automatic win (some exceptions apply).

The combo is kinda interactive, you have to draw at least 20 cards from your deck in order to have your full combo in hand... thats a lot of turns to survive
@greatmightypanda7 жыл бұрын
Not really, when you consider multiple ice blocks and freeze cards essentially render at least half the turns in the game useless to any minion based deck, and mage has huge card generation which also benefits the quest itself, and they even have arcanologists to tutor their secrets from their deck early, which both makes them survive and makes their draws more reliable over time. Drawing 20 cards is not that difficult when there is no way to prevent it happening - survival is not interaction, especially when you do nothing to affect the board state but merely prevent it from acting.

Alright everyone lets calm down to begin with. Even though I play this deck I do understand why people despise it and I know why it is fundamentally bad for the game everyone hates aggro but this deck promotes it because you can't win with control so your only option is to play aggro. Now something everyone needs to learn is to is that to win you need to play meta decks even if you are a "scumbag" for playing these kinds of decks. You usually can't win in most cases if you aren't playing meta so you play meta because who doesn't like winning and bragging what rank you are to friends? Now I also want to talk about how they kind of nerfed it, not necessarily nerfed it but added things that can greatly hinder the decks winrate against control. To start off handsize is a extreme problem with this deck now with the addition to let's say frozen clone if you get that from let's say cabalists tome you technically have a dead card in hand because you need these spells to complete the quest but you also can't add an extra two useless cards to your hand and risk burning a combo piece. Also with the addition the the lich king they're are some cards that can help defeat quest mage. Now I'm not sure what all the names of the deathnight cards are but if you have the card that steals a certain card from the enemies deck you can screw up some combos. Also some decks don't have aoe or spells to break your block with while their minions are frozen they added the card that deals 3 damage to all enemies as well as frostmourne to break blocks with. Also another point I would like to bring up is that when a quest mage let's say doesn't get his last combo pieces until the last few cards they will be fatiguing so ice block is irrelevant in some cases if you can line up the fatigue damage correctly. Another point is let's say they have an ice block whether they are a mage or they stole it from your class in some way which is rng just like other people say this deck is completely reliant on. Let's say you are facing a control deck you need to be focusing on your hand when you will be fatiguing and not to mess anything up on burning cards. Another thing on the fatigue aspect is what secrets you need to play around whether you not attack a with a weapon to activate ice barrier giving them that 1 health advantage to live from fatigue the next turn instead of not attacking and letting fatigue kill them later on one turn or more. Also secrets whether you are mage or stole a secret you have to deal with potion of polymorph, ice block, and one that I think most forget about spellbender because it can mess up a molten reflection on a sorcerers apprentice combo to win the game. Now I know this deck is not interactive but I just wanted to point out a few things I noticed when playing the deck myself. Please don't flame my grammar I am bad at grammar and it's late ty if you actually read this and please tell me anything you don't agree with :)

ArcanumVader please tell me how it is not auto pilot: there is hardly any chance to missplay unless you cant count if opponent can pop/has lethal.
@Starcanum-7 жыл бұрын
You have to know when to go for a tempo win condition, know the right choice in the discover options in different matchups (sometimes the obvious choice isn't exactly the best one), plan your plays around random generation, know when to go face, know when to play your doomsayers / freezes, learn some specifics about how to play out your card draw effects etc. There're a lot of possibilities for a misplay, and those don't always lead to losing the game, but they often decrease the chance of a win or postpone your win condition, and that alone can decrease your avg winrate.

It does take skill. Like, a five-year-old's skill. The deck is so brain dead and has a minimum of player interaction. Aggro decks still care about the board, they WIN through the board. Freeze Mage IGNORES the board by stalling with 3-4 Ice Blocks, randomly generated Meteors, Flamestrikes, Frost Novas, all their Fireballs and Frostbolts because they no longer need to save them since Archmage generates an infinite supply, and whatever bullshit comes out of cards like Firelands or Medivh, if used. Yes, it TECHNICALLY requires skill, just like it takes skill to wipe your ass or to brush your teeth. Doesn't make it any less boring.

Exodia mage is quite a bad deck but it is starting to shed some light in this meta.

'exodia mage' is the most disgusting and frustrating deck in the meta. It involves none of the new mechanics, you just sit there and wait to be OTK'd buy a guy who freezes, draws, freezes, draws, gets unbelievably lucky with glyph and tome, plays 4 ice blocks then 'well plays' you as if it was skill. Literally the most boring deck in hearthstone.

Daan Van Bockel you can't just 'make a counter' to one deck out of god knows how many, I have every right to complain the same way you have the right to praise it

Bailey Shaw it's true, many classe have litterally no chance against that type of deck but it does requires some skill If you make ONE turn in the wrong way you're screwed, then there is the RNG problem with cabalist tome, shimmering tempest and the others but that is not just a mage problem. The real problem right now is druid and innervate, I've played jade ramp druid today for the very first time and.. yeah I got from 9 to 5 in no time but it wasn't so funny to me.. I was litterally disgusted of myself when I innervate into behemot in turn 4..

This deck is amazing, most other CCGs have Control/combo decks, why shouldn't hearthstone? god forbid you ever play Magic then..
@trompell07 жыл бұрын
Joao Paulino its totally different. Magic has instants and counterplay.

Yeah, in one color, blue. If you're not playing blue for counterspells it's almost the equivalent of playing Hs against this deck unless you are also another blue combo/control deck or have a combo that cannot be disrupted via counterspell magic. The stack makes it more fair for other colors to try to interrupt combos with instants/creature abilitys albeit if you're against blue they are probably holding that force of will/daze/Flusterstorm and variants for combo protection. I for one played all kinds of decks in Mtg and I'm happy that Hs is enabling the game to not just all about creature tempo shenanigans for aggro or true tempo, diversify the game, everyone wins, more player base salt is always a byproduct of diversity, certain classes should have theyre identity like this in a rock paper scissors kind of way from what they excell at I'm happy how the game is progressing, they should balance it a bit more though but could be a lot worse, not an easy task.

Joao Paulino I agree with you. Also side note i only play decks with blue :). Blue red is my favorite

Aah, yes , the Izzet guild :) no doubt one of the most fun ones , weird science , creativity in a curious combination of opposite Ideals between search for knowledge,premeditation of blue and the impulsiveness/passion of red. Not to mention the Pewpew power it can have My commander deck is Izzet :D

You can beat jade druid via control using Skulking geist, yes it's true. Try it, make a video about it. And those are quite nice and balanced matches. You called it and we knew that Quest Mage is broken as fuck against control and midrange and is meta breaking in the sense where it makes it shit, because you have to play aggro to counter it. - quest mage draws its deck before any other control so to get the combo is not that difficult when your opponent has a slow deck and is, for most of the game, in frozen state. - random ass-hole generator via gliph and tome is broken as fuck - 1 turn infinite damage, play around it if you can. The difficulty is to roll the dice, still, like any mage as of the last couple of expansions. Oh 8 mana pyroblast.... There is a big minion on the board, 4 mana meteor...., then go face with spell damage, you don't even need a board to do it. How is that fun?

A deck that has to play a large amount of rng cards is more skill based? Skill cant carry shatter
