Hafu does give alot of insight into synergy, while Trump mostly goes for purely value which may not be the best sometimes

In the fourth game on turn two, when Trump was facing a 1/2 and a 1/3, playing the Explosive Sheep was DEFINITELY the best play. Besides silence, the card kills the 1/2 and puts the worm in hero ability range. Almost guaranteed 2 for 1. Coining out the Blademaster leaves more counterplays available, which is exactly what happened (it also uses the coin, which is useful in getting the Bomb Lobber out sooner). Explosive Sheep is a super situational card that you cannot play unless you don't mind your board getting nuked as well. This is why I think the Sheep is only viable in Mage because the Mage can ping it immediately for a 4 mana 2 damage Hellfire. Everybody else has to play it and then either play nothing or play things that are okay with taking 2 damage (which isn't much), then hope the opponent doesn't have a silence for it (similar to Abom, but Abom is also a taunt so it's better). Even if they then don't have silence, the Sheep doesn't have taunt, so the minions that are doomed to die can suicide into your minions or at least get some final damage onto your face. In that sense, the card makes me think of Corruption, which is terrible.

I just had a garbage mage deck that had 2 Fel Reavers, and although Fel is an absolutely terrible card, it was hilarious seeing the opponent make stupid plays to get me as many discards as possible, and they never seemed to try to remove it either, just tried to deck me. Suddenly, "play as many cards at once but don't kill the Fel Reaver" strategy was all I saw. That strategy won me most of the games i played with it lol. (In case you didn't know, Fel Reaver is a 5 mana 8-8 that discards 3 cards from your deck every time your opponent plays a card)

What if there was a feature where you could right click a minion and a "Taunt" emote would pop up and when you click it the minion would yell a battlecry or taunting type thing. These could also be muted by squelching your opponent and would have a cool down like a hero emote. And the Black Knight's should be "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elder berries!"

They really shouldn't be. Because of the addition of 130 new cards, it should be really difficult to get your hands on a Flamestrike, let alone two. I don't know how the draft is randomized, but the fact that Mages are still getting that card a bunch is a signal that it's not done well. If the randomizer was better, you would expect to see a Flamestrike in maybe one in every three Mage matches. Yet almost every Mage I've faced has one (if they don't have it they often just lose the game lol). I have similar complaints with regards to Shamans and Fire Elementals. I should not have to face 2-3 Fire Elementals every time I face a Shaman. That's not how this new arena thing is supposed to work. >.>

lkjkhfggd Random does not mean it's an equal chance of getting each card. It's random in each pack whether or not a card is a legendary, that doesn't mean you get a legendary the same amount of times you get a common.

I wonder if Blizzard has considered removing Flamestrike from arena. Just think about it, it's the only card that absolutely defines the mage vs other classes match up, there is no other card that affects the arena meta so absolutely. You HAVE TO play around flamestrike or you are very likely to lose, and of course, sometimes you can't play around flamestrike (try to play around it when you are behind, good luck). It's not like removing it would absolutely wreck some people either, you can always choose another hero from the three offered if you don't think mages are good enough anymore. Nobody is "majoring" mage in arena as they do in constructed. Other than huge nerds, of course.

vesmo lol Pretty much every single class has cards you need to play around. Holy nova, Consecration, Truesilver and so on. Flamestrike being a 7 mana cost makes it quite poor unless it grants you 4+ minion kills. It's usually easy to bait it out and make the mage get lower value than he should get from it.

TheAllstar22 Those cards you mentioned are NOWHERE as important to play around as flamestrike. The fact it wipes out every minion with 4 or less health and even 5 health minions after turn 7 makes it so much more impactful than holy nova or consecration which only kill 2 health minions, so basically 2-drops. Also, arena is such a slow format that saying flamestrike is poor because it costs 7 mana is ridiculous.

vesmo lol I've got many mages down to 10 health before turn 7, then they used flamestrike on turn 7, and I played big minions then won the game. It isn't that good of a card and has been around since beta, and has never been changed. The card is fine because it is so slow. Turn 7 you flamestrike and do nothing to the board the turn 8 you have to respond to what they put down/minions that survived flamestrike. Yes it more or less defines the mage match up. but other aoe's cost less and can effect the board earlier, and can be combo'd to wipe the enemies board then actually get minions out. also as many others/Trump has said this deck was bad against flamestrike, and you can look at other comments as to why that is.

The thing is, if you have three minions on the board and a flamestrike would kill two of em then you can punish them because you get a free attack in. just like any other aoe you have ot play around it while still trying to get value. If you hate flamestrike then you'd hate constructed as thats pretty much all you do in a controll vs controll matchup.

I know soul of the forest is below average, but picking stormpike over it? I once got two og the, in a arena deck, ofcourse the other two cards were crap both of the times, it won me atleast two of the 7 games i won, so im just asking, is it really that bad, i mean i had a lot of small minions

The real issue is that Soul of the Forest is *much* better against Flamestrike than Stormpike, and his deck had a major weakness to Flamestrike, but he didn't consider that. He was too busy looking at how, individually, cards were above or below average to see that his deck was actually going to get stomped by the most picked/most dangerous arena class. He also talked about playing around it, but used a Stormpike when he could've used an Abusive for the same purpose. Stormpike is better to keep in hand anyways since the damage can go anywhere and doesn't need a minion. For that matter, Abusive+SotF there would've possibly prevented the loss.

In that scenario it's more like catching up than winning more. Bloodlust is something i'd call "win more" since you can only really play it for the win. A lot of these other cards, like Frostwolf Warlord perhaps, i'd rather call "solidifying your board". And it's oftentime not even that hard to hit 3 minions with Soul (or even just 2, which is acceptable), and it's often not hard to make Frostwolf Warlord a 6/6. Those are value plays, man.

The board can be completely even or even in the opponent's favour, and you can play a card like this to greatly improve your position. That was the point of my silly, exaggerated example. There are better plays in that scenario, sure, but you definitely don't have to be winning in order to play Soul for good value. I think 4/4 for 4 is completely acceptable. And it makes your current minions sticky, which in some cases i would value a lot more than having another Yeti out. This is the reason Harvest Golem and Haunted Creeper and Cairne are so good. Because killing them will often not even change the board position that much, unless you can get rid of the deathrattles at the same time. They limit your opponent's options, and Soul can accomplish that as well. Yeah, i brought up the Frostwolf just because it was the only thing i could think of on the fly that is at its peak when you have basically already won. There are probably better examples :] Obviously you will always want to hit three+ minions with Soul, in which case it's great value, but if there's no better option in sight i have no problem playing it on two and not seeing it as much worse than a Yeti. I don't think it's a great card and there is lots i would pick above it in arena, but i don't think it's a terrible card either. I mean, if Soul of the Forest cost 3 mana it would be disgustingly good, right? Or do you think it's unfairly priced? Edit: I wouldn't define a win more-card as just something that scales linearly with your position, by the way. Like i've said, that would also apply to Frostwolf (kind of). I would define it as something that is only good if you have pretty much already won. Bloodlust is mostly that in arena, since you need solid minions to secure a board in the first place. You can't guarantee to get sticky minions and good removal in there.

This arena run represents the insanity that is going on right now. There are Mages EVERYWHERE right now. There had always been a high amount of Mage in arena, but since GvG, Every arena run I've done has had Mage opponents at least half of the time, which is far too many. I don't think Mage is OP, and on the contrary, Mage is a complete pushover if she has zero Flamestrikes, but I'm getting super tired of facing them. I want to see the new GvG cards, not the same old Water Elemental/Fireball/Flamestrike story over and over again... On a side note, the new Bomb Lobber is absolutely insane. 5 mana 3/3 random 4 damage is basically an Argent Commander for 1 mana cheaper. All it requires is you to first kill the minions you don't want it to hit, which is usually easy to do. Madder Bomber is sometimes amazing, but it has sooo much RNG. Every single arena game now is really RNG reliant. Shredders making random 2 mana dudes, Recombobulator giving you a completely random dude, Mechanical Yeti's random Spare Part, and so on. It's a wonder I can actually get through games with the basic 2 mana 3/2 and 3 mana 3/3 when players can have a 3 mana 3/4 and even worse, a 3 mana 4/4... Spider Tank and Ogre Brute are super OP, and imo the new top neutral minions in arena.

Madder bomber killed 2 of my opponents in the last draft. took out a value minion of theirs or hit them enough times in the face that i had lethal. That's lead me to believe it's a bad card, but rng just probably wasn't on their side that day.

Spider tank is amazing. No 2 drop can kill it, very little 3 drops can kill it. Spider tank trades with just about 80% of all 2-3 drops.

gvg has released a whole new set of early game combinations, previously everyone tries to draft lots of 2 drop 3/2 and 3 drop 3/3, scarlet and harvest. all for value. now the new 2/2 with divine shield wrecks all 3/2 and spider tank wrecks your 3/3. every card now has their specific purpose in killing another card making drafting sooo much harder now. in arena we draft for consistency and now gvg introduced so much variance and rng into the game. its like playing rock paper scissors now, if your turn 2 and turn 3 dies for free just because of the wrong combination of minions you had in hand, you're screwed.

Raymond Wong I don't think drafting is much harder. It's still the same old 'pick the best card of the 3 in the first half or so picks, then pick based on mana curve/potential synergy.' If you see 2/2 divine shield, you probably take it, and if you see Spider Tank, you almost definitely take it. Not hard at all.

I understand that he doesn't want the sheep to stick for when he plays more minions, but at this point it hits the dark iron anyways, so he could send it in next turn in stead for the same effect to his own board... but with added effect to the opponent's future board. His alternative play here turns out to be very comparable, but I stick by my comment.

Grove tender gives you a coin over your ennemy since you are the one who gets to spend mana on the turn. Somehow it's a 2mana 2/4 "give you and your opponent an empty mana crystal". It's hard to make use of symmetrical effects in hearthstone, in one of the games Trump used the gain mana crystal his opponent couldn't use the extra mana efficiently so that was a win. In the other game his opponent got out an early water elemental then just held him off until skillstrikes could fall on him. To me it seems very much like a card where you try and supplement your own strategy with the deck, In Trump's case I think the card draw would have been more useful most of the time. The extra mana gained later just propelled his opponents into their late game faster and as Trump discovered later his own arena deck lacked late game punch. In constructed however I think this card could really shine.

I like to think of both Troggs as having "Spell Taunt". While they don't force a spell to be cast at them, no player is going to want to give you a free buff by casting spells at other minions (or spells that affect their side of the board) without trading into it. In essence, Blizzard created a "Spell Taunt" creature without actually giving it the words Spell Taunt! :)

Marcus Tullius Cicero The only way to not have that happen is to not release expansions at all. Since Hearthstone is a collectible card game, that simply wasn't going to happen ever. In some ways, I'd even argue that less luck is required in arena now: there are now more neutral options for AoE and spot removal in Explosive Sheep, Madder Bomber, Bomb Lomber, etc. Also, in an overall sense, everyone is less likely to get multiple copies of particularly powerful cards: so Mages with an overwhelming number of flamestrikes will be less common. As more cards are released, being able to skillfully draft a feasible deck will become more and more important since you'll be having less copies of any individual cards in your deck.

Bomber and Arcane Missile needs to be VERY accurate to kill it off. In arena as a rogue I could snipe off so many turn 1 plays the enemy had because of knife/little stealthed 2/3.

Its a ramp card, its not situational. Because druids generally have more benefit from ramping up then other classes, you don't mind giving your opponent a mana crystal if that means you can pop your big minions one turn sooner.

I think a lot of classes really rely on their class cards showing up (mage) but with GvG making an even bigger influx of neutral cards, warlock should now surely be a big power in arena thanks to less powerful class cards but almighty hero power

8 Mana Ysera + 0 Mana coin = They have a Ysera. 2 Mana Shrinkmeister + 6 Mana Cabal Shadow Priest = You have Shrinkmeister, Cabal, AND ysera. Best case scenario. You can steal a lot more minions with that combo too.

I have had such bad luck with the gvg draws in arena so far. With the notable exception of Warlock with an easy 12-1. Anecdotally it seems to me that Warlock got a big power spike in Arena with gvg, judging by some of the decks I've been up against.

I had a Warlock arena that had a pretty fun moment with double Fel Cannons. I was barely able to play anything afterwards, but my opponent wasn't able to play much either as far as I could tell lol

The 5 mana 4/4 that gets +2/+2 whenever your hero takes damage on your turn is so good, had 3 of them in a warlock run and went 12-1 with the deck. Those won me so many games by themselves.

Bomb lobber is such a cost efficient minion ,basically it can be considered a 3 drop 3/3 with a 2 drop flame cannon. Won't surprise me if it shows up in future constructed control deck ,should the zoos become everywhere. Also it is odd that despite so many good hearthstone players predicted unstable portal would be unreliable ,and now it is such a broken card that has the potential to turn the table . I guess it is more similar like mind games ,none know what will be the outcome ,but when the outcome favors the mage , the mage basically win .

They will have their own packs in the store, separate from Expert packs. To my knowledge, they have the same price. They will also replace Expert packs as the minimum reward in arena (no idea if high wins can get you Expert packs in addition to the GvG pack.)

When you mostly have minions at 4 or less health, with just three at 5, and one at more than 5 that _requires other minions out to be very good_, you will lose to flamestrike. The sheep and abusive were just icing on the cake for Mage. Trump too psyched about new meta to remember Mage is still stupidly OP in arena and draft against it.

i currently have a priest deck, i managed to get two of the 4 cost shredders, a normal yeti and a mech yeti, i think its 3/1 atm, has an amazing curve, shredders are godly, at worst it ends up being like a 5/4 worth of stats (getting novice engineer which happened too me the first time i used it) best case its an 8/7 (the mighty milhouse manastorm!)

I've been having the same problems as trump in this video. My opponents just have so many more cards than I do when I'm losing. It's so weird. I guess I probably didn't have that much late game either. Some decks that I thought were so good, so I was so disappointed in.

Just played match on arena with Rogue and recombinator saved my ass. Ttransformed ogr in sunwalker when i was at 4 health when Paladin had board control. After that i get consecration and eye for an eye and with one health just pullув out of the whole game) This card i think will be just OP!

So this is super situational, but if you went first and played Grove Tender on turn 10 and went mana crystals, you would get a card draw and your opponent would get a crystal they would have gotten anyway their next turn (no benefit). In this case, it would be 3 mana for a 2/4 with card draw. (Unless I'm missing something)

The expansion alone should be enough of a nerf. With 130 more cards to be offered, you should only really expect to be offered a Flamestrike once every few Mage drafts, certainly not every time. The fact that almost every Mage I've been facing has Flamestrike is a testament to how the randomizer is not doing a great job.

Because balance mainly revolves around constructed. You can't really balance around someone getting 3 of a card; that's why constructed has card limits to begin with. Mage unfortunately got good arena cards (except Echo and Leviathan, but they're higher rarities). It may make arena unbalanced enough to matter balancewise.

It all depends on the situation really. A 3 for 4/4 is really dangerous by itself, so the attacking the wrong target tends to be irrelevant. It can really great if they are hiding something behind taunt and you smack a Demolisher behind a Shieldmasta or something, but sometimes it can be really bad if they have a bunch of 1/1s or something and you just wanna kill that damn Spider Tank. So it's situationally better or worse than Spider tank. That said, it's just a 4/4, so you won't just win if you get a bunch of them.

It forces the opponent to deal with it, so it usually does work before it can even attack. However, as seen quite clearly here, it's no turn 3 Yeti due to Flamecannon and Flamestrike, plus Yeti trades favorably with it. That I think makes it actually only an average card since you're going to see a lot of Mages and Yetis in arena.

If that is the case then you are probably a good player. Ogre brute is storng, its a turn 3 4/4, I mean that's as good as you're going to get stat wise with this low of a draw back. Your opponent will have to deal with it eventually even if it misses, and if it doesnt its just insane value. I mean, imagine your opponent clearing your 3/2 and playing a 4/4, how do you react on that board?

I honestly think this is the first arena run where Zombie Chow has lost Trump the game 3 times, with this specific deck i think the 10 health (5 from each chow) kept the opponents alive where he could have finished them off. Does anyone agree? EDIT: plus the flame-strikes stole the board control he gained from the chows :(

The first loss the mage didn't get any health from zombie chow she was at 30 health when it was killed. The second mage his two zombie chows healed her for 7, but they still did important board control like kill the water elemental that would probably have ruined him otherwise. Furthermore the mage was at 22 health by the end of the game, even in some imaginary world where the zombie chows did everything they did without healing the mage being at 15 health wouldn't have changed anything. Then the final match the zombie chows didn't do much because of the flamestrike, but there was no point where the mage having five less health (or 3 if you really want to evaluate it realistically since the zombie chow did damage) would have mattered.
