I really enjoy this series, and I hope he continues to make videos after this for mid level and experience players. Maybe video exercises similar to the iDraft using board examples from his matches and a period of time to access how you can reach lethal and to help people who miss lethal sometimes. Or maybe videos discussing tempo, or videos discussing how and why certain decks are good against others. Another idea I saw from a viewer a while ago were instance based videos showing how best to remove threats on board to help a player have a better sense on how to deal with certain situations.

Emsarrev They sort of have did that with the Naxxramas addition. If you played the heroic section you really had to build decks around there crazy ass op skills and cards. Yeah... For those not getting it the Warlock played Soulfire at 10:04 and he killed the 2-4. If he had gone for face Trump would be at 2 hp with no way to clear Maexxna as he would need to hit Maexxna with his Weapon to clear which would result in being hit for 2 and therefore death. I would've personally redone this game if I was Trump... he ended up winning due to a misplay from his opponent and ended up doing 18 damage to the lock's face with his Assassin's Blade. I mean don't get me wrong going for the face was far and away the right play it's just the exact opposite of what the lesson preaches lol.

If you are having trouble winning when starting to take on other players, it can't be overstated just how much these videos help to this day, especially if you are simply interested in getting to Rank 20 for the month's cardback. I had basic knowledge of how cards worked, some synergies, but my idea about the game's fundamental concepts was completely wrong. Focusing on minions for board control, viewing health as a resource and not freaking out when you lose HP, and learning when to hold your fire are all invaluable concepts. I recently came back to the game, and probably won 3 out of 20 matches. I watched Trump's first 4 videos, and have now probably won 6 out of the next 9 games. If you apply the concepts in these videos, you are at least going to become someone who can compete on a consistent basis.

There's a different from burst and rush, burst is Druids 3 treents and savage with innervate hero power for 15 damage using cards only in your hand, rush is zoolock and Hanlock* (in a way) The problem is that warlocks don't have CONSISTENT burst, yeah, double doom guard and fire would be 18, but the chance of you doing that is VERY slim, you would need a hand of 10, play the two fires and hope they don't discard the doom, then hope the doom doesn't discard the other one, INCREDIBLY lucky if you pull that off

Zeode X. He kinda had lethal, because if he were to play the maexxna and throw the soulfire to the face instead of the 2/4, trump in the next turn didn't had anything to stop the further 2 damage from maexxna, still difficult call

My problem with rogue hero power is that you "cant" use it if you equip a weapon making the incentive to run weapons in rogue deck a little bit lower. No other class "locks down" your own hero power unless you have a full board which is quite rare. I guess shaman can lock down the hero power but atleast then you have 4 totems and can usually trade one off... Its still strong but I think its part why rogue are missing from the meta.

shuvo rahman 8 damage to the face would have taken care of that, aka 2xsoulfire, also Trump was at 6 health, had warlock soulfired the face, Maexxna would have taken care of the rest, gnome was not that big of a threat to use soulfire on.
@PaulusIsHere10 жыл бұрын
shuvo rahman No, the lesson is "Health is a resource" not "Health doesn't matter". Against many decks there are critical health points where you can lose the game very easily by dropping below a hp total. Freeze mage for example is pretty high at about 17hp, Fireball, Frostbolt and 2x Ice Lance and that deck is designed around the stall to get those cards.

In his second last turn, I'm not too sure why he plays Fan of Knives over the Bloodfen Raptor.
@BenRangel8 жыл бұрын
Initally he plans to use using board control to do repeated damage with his minions. But when we reach 6:40 he has yet to do a single point of damage with his minions, everything he played has been wiped, he's down to 14 health and the warlock gets the advantage of playing a minion on an empty board. Is Trump really in a huge lead at that point? Why? I'm a newb so please enlighten me
@teamplayer2helper8 жыл бұрын
Here's where the best example of CARD ADVANTAGE is. Trunp has a lot more cards than his opponenet, which means he has much more options. It almost guarentees that he can play atleast 1 minion each turn, and he also have some pretty good removal (like assasinate and his assasins blade)
@MikeDindu8 жыл бұрын
It's better for your opponent to play a minion on an empty board, than one where he has say, 3 minions, and you none. You don't want to be scared to take damage if you have the health to do so. If you're below 15 it gets a little more conservative on stuff you can hit, but killing minions yourself allows your minions to stay healthy or maybe take out smaller threats that won't kill them. The game is not a race to who can deal 30 damage, that's only the win condition. If you're at 25 with a 3 attack weapon, and there's a 6/3 minion on the board, then definitely kill it yourself. Use the amount of health you have to your advantage.
@BenRangel8 жыл бұрын
Shagglefire Sure, during the mentioned time, Trump's got 8 cards and the Warlock has got 4. But is it generally worth sacrificing 16 life just to get that card advantage?
@BenRangel8 жыл бұрын
IMaWondERFULPerSON Sure, it's worth taking damage to kill off minions while you've still got a lot of life. But I assume by doing so the idea is to sacrifice health early to gain a minion advantage later. But looked to me like Trump never really got that advantage, he was reduced to 14 health and still hadn't gained board control. And once you're below 15, like you said, you can no longer fearlessly take damage, you might not be able to play the cards you want, you might be forced to play Taunts and spells just to prevent further attacks. This time it worked out but I figure it could be a bit risky.
@MikeDindu8 жыл бұрын
+BenRangel Sometimes when you're behind in a game you have to take risks. Would you rather take 6 damage to the face once or 3 times? In this game he happened to be playing against a shitty warlock deck with too many spells. The guy had all the answers in the early to mid game, but it was too easy to slowly build control of the board later on. If they played 10 times, Trump may have never lost largely because he's willing to sacrifice health to maintain or win board control.

What about Vanish? In the basic deck.
@RyanWOboryshko10 жыл бұрын
Vanish is a poor card for many reasons. I will try and explain it to you pretty simply. At 6 mana a spell needs to do something that gives you a super advantage over your opponent, and vanish does not meet those qualifications. It gives your opponent more options to play out over the next few turns, and the card is super bad when you are already ahead because it returns your hand. Also the fact that it is 6 mana means that the best you can play after that is a yeti if you have reached turn 10, and on turn 10 a yeti isnt as terrifying as on turn 4.

I'm still confused on when to go for board control vs smashing face. Is there damage/health calculation? For example, if you have a 5/5 and your opponent has only a 1/1. Smashing seems better than killing the lowly 1/1. But if they had a 3/3 or 4/4 then of course you would go for board control. So does this mean that 3-4 points of damage is worth the card advantage? So a 9/9 would smash face past a 5/5? Or is it diminished returns at larger creatures, or is it more complicated due to buff effects?
@Steve-bc5vf8 жыл бұрын
Great videos though!!
@NickNiccelson8 жыл бұрын
It's not a calculation. It's a simple logical question and that question is the following: *"What is the worst that minion could possibly do if I do not kill it right now?"* To use your example: suppose the opponent with a 1/1 is a Mage. If you ignore the 1/1 and hit face with the 5/5, that 1/1 makes very little difference to what the Mage can do to the 5/5 on their turn. At the very worst, they'll use a spell to remove the 5/5 and leave the 1/1 alive to do continuous damage every turn. It would take 5 turns for that 1/1 to match the damage you did with 1 attack from the 5/5, and the 5/5 still traded for whichever removal card anyway. If you can't deal with a single 1/1 after 5 turns, you were probably going to lose the game regardless of what the 5/5 did. Compare that scenario to if your opponent was a Paladin. Same minions, same tactics to hit the face, but what happens to punish you for leaving that 1/1 alive? On their turn, the Paladin drops an Argent Protector + Blessing of Kings and uses the now buffed 1/1 to kill your 5/5, for FREE. That's just a general rule in the difference of playstyle between decks: Mages all tend somewhat towards *contesting* board control long enough to get you in the "danger zone" where 10 mana's worth of spells can kill you, Paladins rely more on *holding* board control with their minions for enough turns to grind you down slowly. Gets more complicated once you start to consider the whole range of builds, but that's the idea. I've oversimplified the context a lot here but hopefully that clears up some things for you.

sucks in late game if your opponent plays a legendary like that fireball wizzard or the dragon which puts the health of one player to 15 your pretty much screwed

I find it really odd that he explains Miracle Rogue without even mentioning the entire point of the deck is to put out a gigantic Edwin Van Cleef and wreck your opponent's face with like 20+ damage.

I think this video more emphasizes the sheer power of warlock rather than the meta dps removal of rogue. I don't know. I get told that rogue and mage are the meta, but they all seem pretty good, imo. I can see how high spellpower mage can just roll down anything, though. People say priest is the fucking worst, but they get divine spirit and inner fire, which can turn shit high health cards into absolute beasts. Also northshire cleric gives pretty good card advantage.

Guys I recently usad an arcanite reaper to attack a gore hound , is this a smart play?Or is taking 9 damage to the face stupid?
@Phagocytosis10 жыл бұрын
It depends a bit on the circumstances but in principle I think that is not bad/stupid at all.

You defienitly did the right thing! The hound would've hit you either way

Ole Andreas Egeland Rørvik Is it still the right thing to do if I could have used my minions to kill the gore hound? Because I could have done that,but decided to take ç damage to face.Is that still as smart then?

Nathan Sauveur It comes down to what was your health left and the class you were facing. If you can learn all the burst damage of each class (max damage in 1 turn given his board), so you can know your limit of fearless hitting

If you think Trump's opponent had lethal at any point in that game then I suggest you rewatch the video. His opponent would have had no way of knowing that he needed to save the soul fire. Did they play their hand poorly? Probably. But it's clear that they were inexperienced and can't really be blamed for failing to predict the outcome of the endgame.

man if the maexna had been a bolderfist or dread infernal the warlock woulda won, heck if trump had made one mistake with his weapon he wouldve lost to the souldfire, a close game, i love the way rogue desperately try's there damdest, health be damned, for efficiency

The warlock only needed to soulfire to the hero and then hit with maexxna to win

I still don't get why people consider the rogue hero ability as 2 mana, 2 damage. It's 2 mana 3+ health for two damage OVER two turns. It's considerably more bad then people generally realize.

Just realized trump would've lost if the opponent went face with the soulfire instead of on the gnomish inventor. Spider would've survived to deal 2 damage to the face next turn.

In the next to last turn when he played the fan of knives instead of the raptor... That was was super incorrect. His logic was that he'd rather play something better, but really, what was he hoping to draw? along with the two 3 drops he was certain to play, he would've had one mana, only cards costing one or less in the deck are backstab and deadly poison, neither of which were more relevant than a raptor on the board that turn. Any of the bigger minions would've been worse because of maexna, and more minions on the board was better for stromwind champ. Because of that, the game came down to the top deck backstab. had he not drawn that, he would've only had 7 damage forcing him to make trades(which would've left his opponent with nothing but a blood imp on the board and him with a stormwind champ, but left him vulnerable to a topdeck soulfire.) Had he played the raptor, the win would've been much more secure.
@Blackdaemon1210 жыл бұрын
well it wasnt vulnerable cause his enemy already played both soulfires and most of all other warlock dmg spells, a charge would´ve been a problem but he didn´t played one so the probability he had one was really low^^
