Hearthstone: Trump Deck Teachings - 08 - Oil Rogue (Rogue)

Oil Rogue is a combo deck that survives the early game by efficiently removing threats with cheap spells and combo minions.
In later phases of the game it can deal tons of damage with just a single minion on the board via equipped daggers and the name giving card: Tinkers Sharpsword Oil.

Oil Rogue is the only deck i have been playing this season in ranked (besides quests) , and i have to say that it is rather hard to use, but my best moments have come through with this deck, highly recommend for anyone wanting a challenge and patience.

The thing is, violet teacher causes you to ALWAYS have 2 targets that would cause oil to miss, unless you drop the soothes deckhand. This is because you need to either play a minion (which will take a turn to get ready) or play a spell (which will summon a 1/1). That's why I always run 2 shredder/1 teacher... although i'm not a particularly amazing oil rogue player so maybe i'm doing it wrong haha

Ja mes that's usually what happens to me! usually if my teacher lives multiple turns as I draw in to oils I use it to trade more so it dies the turn before I'm going for lethal so I dont end up 3 damage off lethal because of a pesky student :(

Ja mes Usually your opponent will bend over backwards to remove the Teacher, so in my experience it rarely is a real problem. Most of the time you can hold out on playing Oil a turn or two. Yeah, it's annoying when it happens, but the value the students provide makes up for it in my opinion.

I would kill taunt with si7 then dagger pass at 14:46, preparing for azure drake preparation fan of knives. Followed by likely killing the azure drake with the si7 as he would almost certainly go face with sorcerer's apprentice.

Hey Trump, what you said about the Violet Teachers and the Tinker Oil is the main reason why I run the two shredder - one teacher version of the deck and not the opposite. I hate it when I misslethal or the Oil goes on the spawn or any spawn that can't get any value at that turn in general. I get why it's a good anti-aggro card (that backfires against hunters) but it's just too much to run two of it in my opinion.

I think Emperor would be good in this deck mainly because of the aggro meta, emperor allows you to play all your finishing cards at turn 7-8. Rogue doesn't always draw into the necessary cards early game either so emperor helps pick up the slack.

I don't understand what I can swap bloodmage with? After a while trump says that you shouldn't swap for loot or kobold... But at the beginning he says that sometimes 2 earthen is ok belcher... JohnPyn97 Most peeps do do the loot or kobold. But you can substitute it for any other good card for the deck. Oil rogue is all about knowing your deck and being comfortable with it.

JohnPyn97 Ok, here is the thing: Bloodmage has a lot of utility because he is basically a Kobold Geomancer (Spell Dmg +1) and a Loot Hoarder (Deathrattle: Draw a card) at the same time. Sometimes u want to cycle him for the card draw, sometimes you need the additional Spell Damage and sometimes you want both. But if you replace him with one of the two cards you only gain one of the effects, decreasing the value so much, that it is better to take another generally good card for oil rogue (like another heal bot, earthen, assassins blade, dr. boom or whatever) instead of taking one of the cards with a similar effect. I hope this makes sense to you:)

i've been having a lot of trouble with this deck too. it has a lot of burst potential but always seems to run out of steam around turn 6 which it fizzles out almost immediately. i think the problem is i try to trade with whats on the board. this my be an entirely "go face" deck.

These decks are proven to be among the best, and it is very hard for a single person to craft a deck that has a decent chance against most of the decks, since these decks are the result of tons of players trying out new cards, figuring out what the best combinations are, etc.

In that case the ladder would be filled with nothing but Patron Warriors. Now Patron Warrior is no longer indisputably the best deck it's possible to make. Players can only force themselves into a stalemate against other Patron Warriors. An extreme example of the meta in general. If all these decks are so great, then why are there so many people stuck ranks 15 -5 with them? You'll never break the meta by following the meta. Sure, it might be harder to design an original deck that works, but if you're an average player, it's your only real chance.

Zombi Pineapple If Patron Warrior is indisputably the best deck, the ladders would be filled with Patron, decks that beat Patron, and decks that beat the decks that beat Patron. People are stuck at those ranks because of a combination of lack of skill, time invested and and a small part luck. Building your own deck that has a decent chance vs a large part of the meta is usually harder than learning an established deck that is already proven to have decent results. Lastly, average players won't reach Legend regardless of deck choice. By definition, an average player would win about as much as he'd lose, and with a 50% win rate, it is impossible to reach legend within a month, for someone who doesn't devote their entire day to the game.

You rarely have 4 cards to discount. In most cases you only have that many the turn after a sprint, and you need to do more than play a 5/5 after blanking a turn drawing, or they'll lock up with taunts or just crash is for like 12+

Is Sludge Belcher i good replacment for loatheb? I found it that with so much angro around belther come in handy and alot of time leave a minion on the board for the oil, just not sure if it's worth replacing loathab with such a nice ability or rather scratch the healbot since becher is protecting me for potencial more dmg. Cole444Train Two saps are necessary to remove early game and late game threats or especially to remove a taunt standing in the way of your lethal. My second point would have been shown in this video but Trump misplayed and missed lethal (near the end when he mentions it)

+SkinnyDude0328 Most oil rogue decks I've seen swap out the Deckhand and the Healbot for a Tomb Pillager and Edwin VanCleef. Gadgetzan Auctioneer isn't run in Oil Rogue, it's used in Maly Rogue instead.

22:08 you could of back stabbed one of the boom bots and play 2 oils and hit face that 9 dmg then blade furry that's another 9 he's down to 4. Usually tempo mages don't run heal so you deadly poison next turn regardless if he freezes your face and then eviscerate his face that's lethal.
