Trouble is, there's a fine line between danger-to-society-psycho and "I made one bad decision as a minor", I think Bobby is the latter. IDK how I feel about Crissy but if she's capable of manipulation at that age, who knows what she's like as an adult. Pst, thanks for the upload Crime Reel. 🙏🏼💜💜

I agree, unless she was abused. The court said no evidence of it, but the father who's the victim denied it, certainly would not have admitted it. In fact, I question alot of the fathers behavior. I'm sure the prosecutor worked hard to make sure it was not proven. And if she had a public defender?? We know what a joke that was. I find it strange that so many feel differently about the young man who pulled the TRIGGER, then the girl who claimed abuse. I think there's alot of bias in this case.

Good Morning, Mr. Reel! I am Native Texan and lived there most of my life (and considering moving back... 😅). Texas has always been known for its tough stance on crime and punishment (ergo, the story you just provided). I am proud of my home state, but just like any other state, judicial flaws are made. This, to me, is an example of that. I do believe that these kids, despite their premeditated and despicable acts, were just that... kids. I feel they should've been sentenced to a much lesser period than life (like 15 to life). And then put under strict rehabilitation. Then after 15 years, give them a parole hearing. By this time they are adults and if they have shown no signs of Rehabilitation then give them the harsher one. I just feel like they should have been given one more chance at life.

I'm so very glad that you covered the case. I feel that it's absolutely wrong to charge a child as an adult 'because they've committed an adult crime'. We are learning more and more about the brain's development and the differences impulse control, etc. There is a lot to be said on this and thank you for bringing it up. However terrible their crimes, they simply aren't adults and changes must be made to reflect this

@@LilyS1031 I know right! They seem to be charged as an adult not based on their development, brain or even age. It seems to be based on how angry we (society) is at them. Why is juvenile law different from adult law? Because their brains aren't fully grown yet! In my opinion there should only be one question asked to decide if a person is charged as an adult or a child: what age were they at the time of committing the crime? Even if a 16 year old does a heinous murder... he's still a 16 year old.

@@kathyjones1576 I don't necessarily disbelieve her accusations against father. Yes she did encourage the crime, but if she had mental health issues and was 16, how much control did she have over herself? We have adults who kill in a fit of rage while drunk or on drugs and they don't get life in prison. It is my belief that USA still has an archaic veiw of children and crime.

An archaic view of children and crime is the problem. It says that children shouldn't be tried as an adult, even when the crime itself is considered an adult crime. Unless they really do have a mental illness that makes them unable to comprehend evil, they should be tried as an adult. This girl is narcissistic, she wanted her parents out of the way so she could live without being under their authority.. She found somebody who believed her lies. She knew what she was doing.

Great thought provoking story. I believe that the punishment should fit the crime. Yes they were juveniles and should be rehabilitated if possible, but the depressing realization comes with the knowledge that they may never again be a free citizen, which in turn may contribute to their rehabilitation. I know that some adults who have committed capitol murder have been released on parole after 20 plus years, but probably not in Texas. Poor little greedy brat that Krissi was snagged Bobby into doing this horrible crime. Very sad indeed. Thanks again CR! Have a blessed day!😘

Thank you for your observations regarding juveniles being tried & sentenced as adults. You are correct, juveniles do not possess the same capacity of reasoning skills that mature adults exhibit; their brains are still developing! As a citizen of Texas, USA ( actually not too far from where this case has its beginnings & I actually remember local news reports), it can be so maddening to learn of ridiculous and cruel sentences (not a shocker here in TX) that are not equitably distributed. Our system is geared towards punishment NOT rehabilitation/correctional interventions. It is set up to fail and rates of recidivism continue to escalate. It's heartwrenching to hear of 15 & 16 year old children placed behind bars without hope.

This happened in Frisco. The Caldwells were our friends and lived behind us. Buzz and Rosalyn were good people. Before Chrissy and Bobby were arrested, lots of people thought Brandy had been behind the shooting because she’d just had a baby out of wedlock and her parents were disappointed. Bobby was a sweet, naive kid. I think Chrissy’s sentence is fair. She planned this for a long time and manipulated Bobby into it.

I've dealt with many juvenile offenders. It's absolutely true that teenagers have not usually developed the maturity to understand the meaning of death or their own lifelong consequences of murdering someone. I'm thinking of these two in the video. Bobby would apt to be a successful candidate for rehabilitation Though I wonder if her pathology is too severe... This is what I think, for a first offence in a major crime such as murder, a full psychological and physical work up should be done immediately after conviction. As well as a comprehensive home study to determine factors that may have led to the crime. Which would be the focus of the time to be served. Create a program (1 to 7 years depending on the age of the offender) in a real juvenile jail that houses only kids who've been tried and convicted in the Adult Court. A reeducation program and continued schooling should make it truly a rehabilitation sentence. With The focus on ethics, morality, obligations, consequences, social responsibility and restitution. And the development of outside interests and hobbies and supervised socialization. Providing ongoing intense regular therapy and mental health care, including the option of medication, as well as the opportunity for skill training or higher education. Their remaining in the program would have to depend on six months reviews of progress and compliance. If they can not comply and are disruptive, particularly if they show signs of dangerous psychopathy or increasing violent tendencies, then they'd have to forfeit the program and be returned to serve out their original sentence in adult prison. A complete re-evaluation should be done between the ages of 18 to 20. If they have shown no sign of advancement with the maturity expected and the rehabilitative program. They would have to go into the adult prison. As likely they would be incorrigible. If they are responding well and the re-evaluations indicate they are progressing, a secondary rehabilitation center would be needed to house these young adults to continue the program. I'd think someone with no priors, may be a good candidate for a some kind of step down supervised housing, still a "Jail" but still providing regular therapy and annual psych evaluations with the goal of release if completed. Complete in house living until they reach thirty. But then for five years with a gradual reintroduction into sociey. Working toward full autonomy, though still under Court Supervision with standard Parole guidelines, (which would have to be for life, in a life sentence.) During the last two years of the program to include finding stable employment, support systems and independent housing. With the planned release after they reach the age thirty-five. During the time served, any significant or habitual violations, should result in either tightening the restrictions to a higher level or a return to prison to complete the sentence and abandonment of earning a parole. Honestly I think we need an overhaul in prisons. Some people will just not be eligible for release because of their antisocial behavior. Rehabilitation does not work for everyone. But it seems unfair that an older child or very young adult should not have a chance at freedom. But needs help to make it successful. A program like this wouldhave a high start up cost and take a lot of planning. But if the result actually helps people rehabilitated and return back into the community as contributing members in society, it would be worth it.

I agree with you. Especially with young offenders, it should be *_rehabilitation_* that is concentrated on, not just lock them away, 'you're bad', without teaching them anything. I feel that's the case in many non-violent crime. Offenders should be given education so they can actually get a job when they come out. With some cases I've seen, sometimes, I think some people are just born bad. Perhaps not in this case... I don't know. For Bobby yes, for her, I'm not so sure.

Hi CR Hope you and yours are doing well! O yes the young love can’t live without each other and parents of the girl disapprove, this story is a classic indeed! Being a Texan I remember this case of love and death. The pictures of them today all grow up is so heartbreaking, I’m glad the families are talking and combined so to speak. Seems as though the Dad /Mom was a little racist, but not a reason to kill. Just a crazy immature what are you thinking time in their lives. Such a heartbreaking story and thank you for sharing it ! 🐝safe

A little racist lol..yes I agree. But I'm still on the fence if her father abused her? I also believe the father was a classic Narcissist. He only " forgave " his child when he needed to move on...with his life? Most will disagree with me, but I bet he was a super controlling person and that will effect a young person's mental health. But now she's in prison, no one will ever believe her on the accusation.

@@cannpdx781 I seen a documentary on this plus in was in the news often, I don’t believe he sexually or other ways abused his daughters, most fathers are protective of their daughter’s, this seems to be a classic case of daughter wanting to be adult live by no rules , and will kill to get it ! Bad seed so to speak! Dad forgave and so did sister because in order to move on you have too forgive!

I can actually understand the father forgiving the boy before the daughter because the daughter is your blood, you except more and feel deeper betrayed. I am glad though he was able to forgive both. Forgiveness is restoring ones own life. It's freedom.

As a developmental psychologist I have testified and assessed juveniles for court. Most if not all have reached adult logical reasoning thus they lack capacity. It’s sad how this information is routinely disregarded by the justice system.

I feel after 12 years old they know right from wrong they need to be held responsible whatever age after 12 you take a life yours also should be taken even if it's sentenced to life without parole. Even children can be so evil. That they deserve the same punishment as adults. These days children are so disrespectful if their parents even if they grew up in a loving home.

I agree that teens know the difference between right and wrong, but their capacity to make the right choice is diminished in other ways. Lots of people in the comments here are saying "if he thought she was being abused, he should have gone to the police". This is true, BUT she presented the murder option as if it were the only option, and it's an *incredibly* teenager thing to take that kind of black-and-white, either-or thinking at face value. Most kids and teens just don't think of other options by themselves. This is also why actual child molesters tell kids that if they tell anyone, the abuser will kill their family. Adults know immediately that that risk is so low and it's more important to tell someone what's happening. But kids and even teens (especially ones dealing with such big traumatic issues) believe that without question.

Another excellent case Crimey! My dad was a native Texan and always said it was “another country”. I think their harsher stance against crime and autonomy in many other areas is indicative. Their justice system tends to be blind to many pertinent details in cases, as in this case relating to ages of the perpetrators and details. With all that said, I think Bobby being only 15, and having secretly dated for 2 years (that’s plenty of time for grooming and manipulation, plus what is the overall percentage of his lifetime?) should have had extenuating circumstances weighed in his sentence. Did he feel something needed to be done, after some 70 letters, yes. As a Hispanic in Texas, maybe he felt he didn’t have a voice to report the abuse either. Maybe she lied and said she had already tried. Who knows. It wouldn’t be the first time a juvenile had juvenile friends who knew something but weren’t allowed to testify or weren’t believed because the proposed offender was an upstanding member of society. I’m just saying, from Bobby’s point of view, he felt he had to do something.

From the parents not approving of the interracial relationship, to the fact that the daughter planned this for a long time, to Bobby committing the crime and being manipulated. Excellent episode! I loved that you brought up the question of the punishment fitting the crime. I actually think that all offenders, regardless of age, deserve a chance at rehabilitation. It is hard to understand why the laws are not changed yet. We have definitive scientific evidence for what we all knew intuitively- teenagers do stupid things impulsively and hopefully learn and grow from their regrets. I don't think the American justice system offers most people real chances to get on the straight and narrow. They don't care about your mental or physical health, they can't even provide for your safety, and they have outsourced your basic care to for-profit corporations that pay loads of money to pass laws that put more people in jail for longer terms. I like the system they are trying out in... Norway? Watched a news piece about it. There is no extra punishment beyond the loss of your freedom. The "cells" look like dorm rooms. The recidivism rate is really low.

I'm so torn by situations like this. Krissi should definitely not be eligible for parole. The fact that she wanted her parents gone, then manipulated Bobby into trying to kill them, shows a mental state that I don't believe can be rehabilitated. Bobby, on the other hand, is more complex. A good kid, manipulated by his girlfriend, to commit murder... I still wonder about his ability to actually pull that trigger. It is that doubt about the mental capacity of a person to plan a murder that has me leaning toward a life sentence without parole, even for a teenager. Could he be convinced by someone else to do the same thing, if released? Maybe not. But should we risk someone's life to find out?

I like listening to these cases not just because of a natural human curiosity with extreme behavior, but also because it brings up some really good ethical questions on the nature of justice and punishment. Why do we charge children as adults in murder cases? Is that really a just and ethical thing to do, since their brains are not fully developed to consider the consequences and effects of their actions? Now in this case, the girl was manipulative but also the plan is quite childlike: she didn't like the rules and wanted some freedom, and she went around asking fellow classmates to do it, etc. It seems extremely unethical to imprison people for life and never give them a chance. I'm not minimizing what she did. I couldn't imagine ever being angry enough at my own parents to murder them, even as an angsty teen, but it really makes you think. I'm glad you brought it up at the end of this case.
