The DuPont family is well known here in the US. In Waverly TN on February 1978, two days after a train derailed, a car carrying liquid propane exploded causing several buildings to burn and killing 16 people. This is well known here in the neighboring state of Kentucky. But what is little know is that during that explosion an ammonia tank exploded. This tank was destined for the DuPont plant just a few miles down the road in a town called New Johnsonville, TN. This ammonia has caused many homes in a 4 mile radius to be evacuated until the ammonia dissipated. Ammonia is used to exterminate high temperature chemical fires such as capable at DuPont. Many lawsuits followed. As for John DuPont he got off easy. A spoiled rich man who never grew up. Thanks TCR. Have a blessed day!

#102: It’s amazing to me how much nonsense very wealthy people can get away w prior to the peak of their escalating erratic behavior. That’s a big part of the issue in cases like this. If anyone would’ve stepped up to section this man, he might’ve gotten helped enough to avoid this tragic outcome. We’ll never know though bc everyone just appeased him for one reason or another.

There was a documentary on Netflix for a brief moment that interviewed Dave & Mark Schultz parents, an his mom said in this doc that even after all these years she carries the guilt of Dave's death... I have never cried so hard for someone I've never met as I did in that moment. She had supported him in wrestling all his life, and she still thought that by letting him be a wrestler she had signed him up for death. It breaks my heart each time I think about it, and I really hate John du Pont for doing such an awful thing to such a sweet man.

This guy was crazy. I hope you did justice to his craziness this time by mentioning he installed a pole and platform in his 'wrestling arena', where he would sit naked, in a nest, cawing like an eagle, and flapping his arms. This is why rich people should be relieved of their burden of wealth and cast off a cliff, into the ocean, ultimately feeding the crabs....

I highly suggest watching "Team Foxcatcher" on Netflix-It has home movies, clips of the wrestlers (and John) at the Farm and Dave's wife & now adult kids talking about what life was like there . You also see that so many people (like local law enforcement and USA Wrestling) knew about John Du Pont's deteriorating mental health and did nothing to distance themselves/cut him off because they needed his funding...And he knew it. Like when all of a sudden John said that he "hates the color black" and got rid of EVERYTHING black (including kicking out Black athletes) at the Farm and everyone was like 🤷🏼♀️. Psst FYE you can (fox) catch (er) Crimey narrating on this weeks Brief Case episode.

Thanks for presenting the early life of Mr. Dupont. Since most Americans suffer from short-attention-span syndrome🥴, our videos begin and end with wrestling and portray a man overcome by the injustice of his upbringing. Learning that he was an educated and passionate ornithologist and an accomplished athlete puts him more in the tragic hero spectrum than the spoiled misunderstood rich kid with a grievance category. Don't misunderstand me, he should not be excused for his crimes. I only mean that I understand him better. Thanks for a great video 🖖🐢👣

Thank you this was very diligently researched and well presented. As an actuary, you might have said that the probability of being born a Dupont in 1938 and dying in prison would have been roughly a six sigma catastrophe - a black swan event. You would expect a Bokshievick revolution to cause it. But our hero pulled it off with no antecedent Bolshi ballet. He spent about 16 years in prison and I suspect he might have appreciated aspects of it. He was not entirely incapable of discipline. He would have been given palliative care for his alcohol and drug addiction which would have kept him in approximately the same cognitive haze. Food in minimum security prisons is edible or a little better. James Ellroy did well to describe it as coach class cuisine and I have scarfed my share of that. Mercifully, the social pressure would have been at an end. The more I consider it, the more I am convinced that minimum security prison could have been perfect for this peculiar man.
