Tell who what? The Land of Light, which HLD takes place in, is only one continent on the planet known as the World of Light, and canonically it is the tiniest of them. There seems to be remnants of a similar war as the one known from the Land of Light having been fought at Overgrowth, and it may very well be the same war - since canonically the war that happened in HLD is 100 years before the events of HLD and HLB takes place some decades before HLD but the war in HLB has already happened by then. But it could also be a separate one.

as a big fan of hyperlight drifter and solar ash, i am excited for this game and will be there for early access right after my exam. but honestly, i am not as gassed up as i thought i would be. maybe it's just been the nigh-inflationary influx of cell-shaded indie games, rogue-lite games or both, but i feel like i have seen this so many times already. however, some of the mechanics showcased in this preview really piqued my interest, like being able to return to the cursed outpost during runs but only if you overcome an onslaught of enemies before that. one mechanic i would love to see is lore-drops being rewarded together with personal upgrades, as seen in hades with gifting nectar to friends and acquaintances, which rewarded backstory tidbits in tandem with trinkets that increased your power, or to a lesser extent, researching enemies with the camera in bioshock 1. the overgrowth seems like it has serious potential for great immersion, and this coupled with rewarded exploration of the lore could really add to hyperlight breaker's pull in my opinion. one aspect that really made solar ash one of my favorite games was the built-in learning curve for mechanical mastery of movement. i adored the skating feature and think it can add a lot to a game's flow, whether it's through unique interactions and puzzles in a fight or simply by making the down-time of getting from A to B more enjoyable. some great examples for the latter point i made are the navigation system in sea of thieves and the addition of dragonriding in world of warcraft, which caused the world to feel so much more interactive while simultaneously making the down-time of getting to a specific place far more enjoyable by rewarding mechanical mastery of movement with speed and thrill. all in all, i hope my thoughts reach somebody on the dev team, no matter if the aforementioned points be discarded or incorporated in the design process. at the latest, you will hear from me again during the first community survey when the game goes into early access, as i am excited to play it!:)

im little sad this doesnt scratch the same itch as hyper light drifter in the looks department, my litmus test is to do a passing glance on it and think about what its the first thing that comes to mind, and to me it just looks like generic stylized assets littered around, its only when I stop and focus on the small details is that i can say, "ah... its hyper light drifter!" but it takes a bit out of me to make the connection to answer the question "Is this supossed to be the hyper light world?" Other thing that upsets me is that what I like about HLD is that the thing I like the most, the ambience, cant be felt at all in HLB and I could go into detail but maybe im comparing the two too mutch or the direction for HLB is supossed to be different in purpose, I also undestand this may not be the final look of the game but cant help but to be skeptical of the final product

With pixel art, you get to take advantage of the fact that you don't have to draw EVERYTHING: Anything that is smaller than one pixel, you simply "suggest" the presence of with dithering and other techniques. Given that they had to bring that which is merely suggested in the pixel art world to full life, I think they are kind of min-maxxing here. Some polish needed maybe, but between the blue fog / red sky, lightning + neon lazers shooting around, and kick ass robots, I think they are headed in a really nice direction.

The idea to have Hyper Light Drifter but in 3D was very intriguing and something that I desired and still desire. Drifter had such an unique take on lonely and dark atmosphere that just made me feel fascinated by what ever I played. The gameplay was good as well. But something about Breaker in this state just feels off to me. It doesn't feel as intimate and atmospheric. You recognize many more things that you see elsewhere on the market, not just in gameplay but also in terms of art direction and such. I have the feeling that Breaker breaks the identity of Drifter too much and has not yet created a strong enough foothold on its own. I will probably try it later down the line but the chances of that happening in the early access phase are pretty slim. I want a full experience and I'm not even sure if I'll have any teammates ready when this eventually happens, which is a bummer too.

It really punished any amount of button mashing and really rewarded making every move intentional. I won't say I'm not wincing a little at how this game VISUALLY reminds me of some games with very bland combat (Fortnite, Palworld, Risk of Rain 2 even tho RoR2 has some good parts), but from what I've read and seen I'm optimistic that this game will FEEL good to play in the same way that HLD did. I'm really happy that Posessors exists and was announced while we're waiting on this to arrive in short order. It's hard to feel hopeful about this. There's some neat things, I enjoy some of the UI going on! The character designs are neat, there are flourishes of touches that really do go "Oh yeah this has the touches of HLD." At the same time...Look, I love my co-op roguelikes. They're plenty neat. But I really feel we're in a tight scene at the moment to fit yet ***another*** one in. I want to remain hopeful that this hits well for when it lands, but it's difficult to feel how this might land at the moment. Posessors though, posessors contains a lot of the immediate magic and style that I remember of the original HLD trailers. To all the people saying this is pandering to "new kids" or whatever and doesn't appeal to the original hld players, I have replayed hyper light drifter literally 5 times and 100%'d the game on steam (Yes, including one shot. No, I did not cheat. No, I didn't lose a run to the instant death crusher traps like 18 times and still hate them to this day.) and this game has me practically dying for more of that fast-paced HLD combat that I keep replaying the game for. I do get it if you love Drifter for the art and atmosphere and don't like the new look, and I'll admit it certainly looks... underwhelming. Compared to HLD's art. I'm hoping I'm wrong but the atmosphere seems certainly less somber than HLD. Story wise, considering that this is before HLD, that makes total sense, but it still feels a little off. I'm excited for more of the story, and the gameplay looks and sounds like a blast if it's what it says on the tin. But I do have one request.... ANYONE AT HEART MACHINE IF YOU'RE READING THIS PLEASE ASK THE TEAM TO MAKE THE MELEE HITS LOOK CRUNCHIER! I'M BEGGING YOU! (I'm not addicted to that hyper light drifter slash animation I swear! It's very sad that heart machine seems to want to experiment and try new things instead of refining what made hyper light drifter so magical. The almost exclusive use of visual story telling left such a strong impression on me, and both their follow up games have ditched it to become just like any other game in the shop. The world of hyper light drifter felt storied, alien, and like I was fighting my way through a breathtaking painting. Solar Ash felt like a video game, and this doesn't look any better.

@@AlmightyDoubleHelix I'm trying to point out that is generally selfish to want the devs make whatever game they want. They made a great game in HLD, and sure a sequel that is more like the atmosphere of HLD would probably be a great game, but the devs simply didn't want to. Besides, its pretty commonplace for studios trying to do exactly what you are describing to just flop and make a sequel that either doesn't improve upon the original or is just worse. Holy sweet baby… I just removed this from my wishlist. It’s a shame…. But you don’t deserve my support.

you really like crying about things that don’t matter huh, something tells me you were never a heart machine fan seeing as the only thing you seem to care about is SBI, its like a brain infection you all have

Was Sweet Baby Inc involved with this? Probably, so I’ll spend my money elsewhere!

Imagine paying a company to absolutely wreck your own company. These people are straight up weirdos.

I'm a little saddened by the amount of people in the comments lacking an open mind for the title. For me personally, I am very excited for this new direction of Hyper Light. I personally dislike when a game doesn't change very much between iterations, so to see almost everything reimagined is a breath of fresh air. I'll be trying this out!

Please bring it to PS5 as soon as possible. This looks like the perfect combination of Solar Ash and Hyper light drifter.

still can't believe the prequel to Hyperlight Drifter is a 3d looter roguelike that looks like fortnite, I hope it turns out to be more inspired than it looks

I am beyond hyped for this game, I can't wait to be able to get my hands on it especially with how beautiful it looks - Besides, I'm very curious about how an open world formula is gonna be used here
