The United States of America is on the brink of collapse. The Great Depression has been raging for ten years with no end in sight. Political upheaval across the world has increasingly inspired our own political radicals ever since the Weltkrieg. To the north, the unions and syndicalists threaten to seize the means of production. To the south, aspiring autocrats mobilize their minutemen. The country is a powderkeg, awaiting a single spark.

The civil war triggers no matter what you do, save for choosing Curtis as President and then going through an event chain, making certain decisions as you go on. The New Deal focus unlocks only if you avoided the civil war as Curtis.

There's actually a way to prevent the Civil War through picking Curtis and then getting some event decisions correct. Could be useful if you ever want to do a USA playthough.

Hyde Kido The game itself, Hearts of Iron 4, is just a WW2 RTS. The mod, KaiserReich, is a batshit ridiculous mod that takes place in a alternate history where the Central Powers(The German Empire, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and The Ottoman Empire) won WW1.

You are wrong. Democracy is a thing all over the world in kasierreich its just different ways of doing it. Like authoritarian democracy is a democracy where there is a figurehead who actually has a lot of power. Lots of liberals and social democrats. The syndicalists and radical socialists are also a form of democracy with the exception of totalists. This is a world where democracy is a given its just how much democracy you give to the common people. With the syndicalists and radicals being the most democratic and national populists being the least.

Authoritarian democracy is basically a parliamentary/constitutional monarchy. You have a king (or a kaiser, in Germany's case), and democratically elected legislative body (the Reichstag) that split the powers. It differs from Paternal Autocracy (like Huey Long's AUS) because it's not a dictatorship.

Soviet Wanderer Did Debs survive to the start date? I know that since we didn't join WW1, the Espionage and Sedition Acts wouldn't have been passed and therefore he wouldn't have been jailed for violating them. Since he died in 1926 because of illness and generally poor treatment he experienced in jail for that, he might very well have survived, but at the same time he was fairly old.

He had family ties to the south such as his grandfather and great-uncle being officers in the Confederate Army. He grew up what some people may call privileged and had some racist views on blacks in the Army and armor. He was also considered by some to be an anti-semite in his later years.
