The whole cinematic in this episode is superior. The lightning, rainbow, bi lightning, and then these excellent acting performance. I mean they were only 17 back then and had cameras all around and still they managed to give us so many emotions, angst and tenderness. That little hint of jealously in Nick's eyes when Charlie mentions Ben? The way he won't let go of his hand again? The short breaths when realizing Nick kind of outed himself to Charlie...they are so excellent.

Correction Charlie was 14, Nick was 16, not to spoil it for those waiting on Corey and Jason to do the later episodes, Charlie has his 15th Birthday after this episode. And yes, the ACTORS were 17 at the time of filming, but you referred to the names of the characters they portrayed, who were 14 (Charlie) and 16 (Nick). This is canon. ❤️🏳️‍🌈🤗

so tao and Elle aren't actually dating! they were just in the same friend group at Truman boys school, but after Elle tranferred to the girls school Tao has been realizing how much he misses her. that's why he accidentally kept buying her apple juice, since he was so used to her presence

For me its the fingers and the feet inching toward each other. Because in real life, its those moments in the early stages of a relationship" that are filled with pure terror and electricity. Relationships are not universally relatable, but I think everyone can relate to those moments.

There’s a deliberate effort - confirmed by the filmmakers - to include rainbows throughout the whole show. If you pay close attention, in addition to several instances of actual rainbows, the lighting is often suggestive of them (when NIck is walking back to see Charlie after the kiss, he passes through a series of different colors, for example) Most frequently, though, you’ll see rainbows in lens flares. There’s an entire Twitter thread dedicated to finding them all. Once you start seeing them, you’ll notice the effort made to include them. It’s another example of the care and thought behind every element of the Heartstopper experience.

The ending of this episode gets to me every time. It has really become one of my favorite episodes, not that there aren’t other favorite episodes to come. By the way I understand things, Tao and Elle aren’t dating, just very good friends. I also suspect that Isaac, being a very perceptive character, bows out of movie night on purpose so that it can be just Tao and Elle together. And I can confirm from a little research that Cormac Hyde-Corrin, who plays Harry, is British and was born in London.

Doing a another rewatch of this show made me realize how often they show Nick & Charlie’s colors throughout. The blue & yellow is seen all the time. On the Netflix poster, the school hallways, the picnic tables at the front and back of the school, their gym bags, their clothes in that last scene of this episode, the umbrella in the next episode. There is so much focus on details like that it amazes me. Loved the reaction again! Cracking me up with the ideas about what the “Kiss” would be! 😂

I’ve seen a few people comment that they’re surprised they didn’t have fireworks etc on Nick and Charlie’s first kiss…but I think that’s the point. That their relationship is so powerful and special that they didn’t need anything else. The kiss was enough on its own. ☺️

I know Kit Connor has been in a lot of movies and shows, but wow, he and Joe Locke are AMAZING in their facial expressions and bringing these comic book characters to life. I love that you go through the same emotions as me as I watched it for the first time. With every scene I thought the kiss would be between other ‚couples‘. I have watched a few reaction videos to heartstopper and I think it is pretty telling how lgbtq+ characters get represented in media when every single one of us predicted horrible miscommunication, heartbreak, tears and drama and was downright surprised and touched by the sweetness and innocence of heartstopper.

Great reactions Corey & Jason! Yeah, Elle and Tao are platonic friends but we're meeting them as they seem to be seeing each other differently for the first time, I think. I Really really enjoyed watching along as you speculated on the meaning of "Kiss" And they built up to such a tender, beautiful and organic feeling moment. The Tara & Darcy scene was spot on in capturing that feeling of what others have called "Queer Joy". To see other LGBTQIA+ people living their truth and love freely does inspire and lift our hearts... and Kit Connor just embodies that feeling as Nick bathes in the uplifting light of that moment. And Joe Locke giving us the incredible breathless and brave Charlie, these two together along with the cast and the synergy of Alice Oseman's writing/vision and Euros Lyn's direction give us something we maybe didn't know we needed.
