We’re in Michigan, so definitely a cooler climate, and we grow sweet potatoes. I’ll say it was a game changer when we started growing them in a raised bed. We don’t have super deep raised beds, just the depth of field rocks, but I think the loose soil and depth of the raised bed are the trick! I also, put them in a location with a good amount of daily sun.

I live in Kalundborg in Denmark a very pretty very old city spread out like a string of pearls along the coast with an ancient church ( Vor Frue Kirke ) built from 1170 to 1220. I love your channel and watch almost every video. Here in Denmark food prices are also going up rapidly and sadly Aldi is shutting down it's shops in our little country. We usually always buy organic but due to the sky rocketing prices of everything here we have had to start buy a few things non organic. Sadly I do not have the health to garden but I love to watch you and your family on your beautiful homestead with all those happy animals.

We love Costco nuts. For longer storage, we repackage into vacuum bags or quart jars. Also, we blend the dried mushrooms into a powder and use to flavor so many things. We are not fond of the rehydrated texture of whole dried mushrooms. If you want mushroom chunks, pulse blend. Really enjoyed your comments.

I’ve used the dried mushrooms before. I really like them. I will say, dried mushrooms aren’t always super comparable to fresh. They do have a stronger, more intense mushroom taste so if you’re a mushroom lover, they’re great. They do take some time to rehydrate. I put mine in a bowl, pour boiling water over to cover them plus an inch or two, then put a plate over the top and let them steep for 20-30 minutes. You will end up with dehydrated mushrooms plus a rich mushroom broth that’s great to add to all kinds of things. As for what I like the mushrooms in: they’re great in risotto, rice pilaf, soups, stews, and I also like to add them to chicken pot pie. They’re also great for all kinds of homemade Asian dishes and I will make homemade hot and sour soup with them.

I continually stock up by adding things to my weekly shopping list as I use them. Ex: tonight it's spaghetti so I'll add spaghetti, ground beef, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes to the list. Just putting it out there if big stock ups are intimidating to some. And its easy to build a pantry of things you'll actually eat by getting 2 or 3 or 4 of each!

@DanielAlberts-ky1uc
@DanielAlberts-ky1uc Жыл бұрын
@@HeartwayFarms we plant right in the garden, no cover. we make a hill in our dirt about 2' wide and 10" tall approx. and however long we have plants to fill. Then we make a double staggered row , putting a plant every 18" or so. When I was growing up we always just weeded them a couple times, then the vines took over and you didn't need to weed. But now I like to use wood mulch on my no till beds, so I just plant them in the soil and then mulch up around them. Being a root crop you want to be careful to not use too much nitrogen, or you'll mostly get vines :) Just as a funny memory, once when I was a kid my mom had us plant 200 slips one yr, and we harvested over a ton of sweet potatoes...we got super tired of eating them that year!!

I make all our breads and treats too and I bought a crazy amount of their unbleached organic flour. I find that it is reasonably priced and we seem to have no issues eating the unbleached organic flour. Today was the first day for me to shop at Aldi and I didn't like it. We went to one in Florida. I love the Aldi organic ketchup. I grab a bottle almost every trip. I could make ketchup but the Aldi organic is good and cost effective. We buy the Aldi organic coffee beans from Guatemala, my husband loves that coffee and I think it might be cheaper than Azure. It's only 1 person drinking it here, but he makes a pot every day. Another item that goes in my cart every trip. I'm going to check out the Costco lemon juice and brown rice & millet ramen noodles. Especially as I'll be taking care of my granddaughter soon and ramen will make a good, healthy lunch with my home canned stock and veggies. My daughter in law wasn't super impressed with the dried mushrooms, but I thought they were ok. They will work in a pinch. Might be time to try growing/buying shrooms in bulk and freeze drying or dehydrating them for back-up. Thanks for sharing your haul.

I’ve been wanting to try Azure but I work full time. I’m off summers so will have time to meet the truck. My question is-Is delivery day & time the same each month? Our pickup is about an hour drive.

Quick comment, please don't take this wrong, but did you ever try not lining under your eyes with eyeliner? You have really pretty eyes but I think the black eyeliner is making you look older, trying to put this in the nicest way possible :)

I have always enjoyed your videos and I don't like giving negative comments but a comment you made in this video really bothered me. I"ve mulled it over for days now, deciding if I should say anything... I know you meant what you said in a nice way but it came across as a put-down. When you were talking about the flour, you said if people can't afford quality flour because of their budget to go ahead and stock up on that low budget flour. Ok, that in it's self wasn't bad, but then you went on to say " thank the Lord we are able to afford the good quality, organic flour" . Kind of a slap in the face to people who are struggling to make ends meet---you eat the junk while I eat the good organic flour because I can afford it. Maybe I"m wrong, correct me if I am. It just bothered me...

Hi Lisa! I was making the point that I'm grateful for every blessing the Lord has given us. Right now we can afford organic flour and there have been other times (many times) when we haven't been able to afford organic food...and that's ok. Be thankful in lack and in abundance. I've had people comment on videos that they don't stock up simply because they can't afford organic food. I always recommend stocking up the best you can with the resources the good Lord has blessed you with, no matter what season of life you are in. We always want to be an encouragement to others and hopefully, if you watch us consistently, you know that and choose to give us the benefit of the doubt in situations like this. Have a blessed week!

I used to love watching these huge grocery hauls and I don’t believe you post it to rub anyone’s face in it, but with the state of the economy and inflation it just feels a bit much to title it “our biggest haul ever”. I know we all have the choice of watching or not and I have to say lately I’ve chosen not.

We have no idea how many months they save back money to even be able to go do a haul and restock 🙂 I have a budget and if I don't use all the food budget then I can set it back in a envelope and if I keep doing that then some months later I have enough for a haul 🙃🙂

Really I think it's a personal heart issue. I hear bitterness and resentment in your writing. I personally don't have alot of money myself to shop like that but I enjoy seeing what others buy and what they do with it. If you are trying to stock up you can buy a few items at a time, slow and steady wins the race. Best of luck to you.

It's not wrong. Most people get tax return this time of year though- that they've been paying into all year! A lot of families actually plan their bigger purchases around tax return season, it gets it out of the way and you can budget better for the year and avoid debt. Whether or not they bought this with tax return money (it doesn't matter!) I think it's really wise they are stocking up.
