I adopted a shelter dog that was on the last call list for having a really bad URI, and she was also heart worm positive. I watched your videos on the diy cough syrup and it worked, I also added a teaspoon of diatimacious earth to her food for a week and added organic pumpkin seeds, and this last vet visit she tested negative for heart worms.

Thanks. I'm in Houston Texas and none of my dogs have tested positive, but we picked up a foxhound running loose in Arkansas and, found out that he just lived outside in a pen before that. He tested positive. Seems to be in stage one, based on his cough, but who knows if he's in stage 2. Doing a slow kill method of healing, which is,basically, get his immune systems strong and then do the preventative to slowly kill them to make it easier on the dog, instead of them being killed en mass.

I just refused preventive meds for my 3 month GSD. I don’t give it to any of my dogs. I have to get rabies to license my dogs and I get the Lyme vaccine , but that’s it. I feel all these chemicals in their system isn’t good for them. If it kills worms and you give it year round what is it doing to the dog. I had my heeler to the vet and they asked me if I wanted preventative and I said no. They asked if I wanted her tested for heart worm and I said yes. She was negative and they seemed surprised since I am such a bad pet parent that doesn’t give her preventative. I prefer Dr. Jones’ holistic sprays. Has served me well so far. 😉

I have an integrative vet and he says to give Heartgard because I live in North Texas where Heartworm is prevalent. He said Heartgard only stays in the system for a day or two and that it’s better than getting Heartworms and having to treat them with chemo. Some of that seems a little hyperbolic but I do technically live in a higher risk area because the Heartworm map has my area in a darker orange/red meaning there are a number of cases nearby. I would love to not give anything but I wonder if i should keep giving it year round or every 45 days or every 3 months like some people say. It’s so hard to know what is “necessary” and what is actually the most balanced approach to minimize chemicals and offer the right amount of protection. If we have a mild winter then it isn’t uncommon to see bugs including a few mosquitoes even in the typically colder months. It’s fairly easy to just stop vaccinations and flea/tick prevention but Heartworm seems to be the most confusing and the most concerning

We have a 22 month old Border Collie. My vet, bless her heart, does holistic medicine as well as standard. This pup has had the absolute minimum in vaxs. The cocktails being injected into our pets is absolutely crazy. She has an ultrasonic 'Soundshield' on her collar for ticks, fleas. I use a diy mosquito repellant that has cedar, citronella, eucalyptus, rosemary, lavender, lemon, and geranium EO's. It works. Not giving her any neurotoxins by way of preventative meds. She eats what we eat like the healthy animals before commercial pet foods were invented. She is supplemented occasionally with a very high grade kibble. So far so good.

Good morning Karen. I hope all is well with you and yours. I have young German Shorthaired Pointer that a friend gave me because the people that were feeding her were going to take her to the pound. She was evidently a stray. She has been abused by someone, it's easy to tell because she's really skiddish and weary of people, especially men. Her last tail has about 4 knots at the end, like it's been broken that many times. She's a beautiful, loving puppy about 7 or 8 months old I think. If it's not to much trouble, would you please send me a list of the oils you use, and the method of administration, and whatever else that you use for your dog? Please. I live in West Ga, between Atlanta and Alabama, not far from 2 lakes, so I'm in a high risk area. Me and Sadie Mae will surely appreciate it. God bless and keep you and yours always. Weill my girl is coughing up blood, and my research shows that the interceptor plus and the adult heartworm medicine will kill dogs, there's an equal chance that their arteries can clogged up from the dead worms and that can kill them, so I think it is crucial that you feed your dog cayenne pepper which boost the blood flow drastically, you're damned if you do you're damned if you don't, people can debate all they like about preventative, but I want to know how to deal with a footlong heartworms and my dog coughing up blood, so since there is actually no good natural advice on killing adult heartworms you have made the best choice, it is possible to kill the babies in eggs with natural preventative, but that is not going to stop the ongoing heart disease and lung disease I wish you the best

Thanks, Dr. Jones! Some of your commenters have mentioned using ivermectin 1% cattle solution for prevention. It would be fantastic if you could do a video dedicated to this practice to discuss dosage, delivery, mixing a solution, and cost savings, along with any side effects or risks. A tutorial with assurances that ivermectin is the same active ingredient as many of the OTC or script brands would help, too. In my experience, the cost savings this method provides can make the difference between the dog getting year round treatment vs only a few months or none at all, especially in multidog households, and especially during trying economical times. Thanks for being a voice for the animals and for a great video aeries!

@@Anisky123 Ivermectin is generally considered safe, and is the main ingredient in HeartGard and other dewormers. Collie breeds with the MDR-1 gene are contraindicated for ivermectin use, tho percentage affected is low. We use ivermectin in pups as young as 4 weeks. However, there can be side effects, typically mild stomach upset or inappetitiveness, that can range from mild to severe, as is true for any medication or preventative. To Michelle and your family... I'm so sorry you had this experience with losing your precious fur babies! I know that was heartbreaking for you as they are part of our family and when we lose them we grieve! I have done a lot of Medical research and we are definitely overmedicating our animals! All those poisonous chemicals taken internally for flea tick, Lyme disease Etc afflict the animals immune system and eventually they succumb to the poisonous toxins in their blood! I use organic, non-toxic sprays when we go outside and I also am a firm believer in good nutrition! I make homemade dog food for Layla who is a 13 year old mixed Terrier and she is very healthy and strong in body! She had blood work done recently and our vet was amazed on the excellent report on the blood pathologies! I am very grateful that she is in good health and pray that I will have her for many good years to come! In conclusion, I am very sorry for your loss as I know it is very painful and and takes time to overcome! My heart and prayers are with you!

It's so good to hear you say you'd conventionally treat the heartworms because that is what I'm going to do. He's presently taking Doxycycline, and will receive his first injection June 1st followed by injections 2 and 3 in early July. I'm very worried for him. Dr. Jones, you mentioned in a previous video about giving heartworm prevention every 2 to 3 months, to kill any possible heartworms in the pet’s body because they are still in the larvae stage, and haven’t traveled to the heart yet, and haven’t turned into actual heartworms at around 4 months after getting into the pet’s body. I’ve been doing what you talked about with my dogs, since I watched your previous video talking about it. It’s easier on the pet and also kills the larvae before they travel to the heart and begin the damage. Do you still also agree with what you said in your previous video about this?

She looked at me with a masked covered face, blue colored hair and terror in her eyes that he will be given Arsenic if he gets heartworm. She said arsenic three times in a row to try to get her point across. I wasn't fazed because if the cure is arsenic then the preventative meds are arsenic too. I don't trust vets or medical people. Brainwashed indoctrinated money making big business. Very easy money in their pockets to push all these preventatives and vaccines. I'm sure kick backs too from drug companies. No one knows the long term effects on the animals such as cancers, autoimmune diseases and shortened lives.

You can also mix the ivermectin with glycerin (available on internet, at Walmart or pharmacies) to create a dilute solution that's easier to dose, though I find using an insulin needle (walmart or pharmacy, usually behind counter) works right out of the bottle. I mix with food vs injecting.

my Maddie (soft coated wheaten terrier) hasnt gotten ANY shots other than Rabies (as required by law) since she was 2 years old. I had a very long talk with her very knowledgeable & forward thinking vet and made the decision that i abso did not trust ingestible preventatives, & i didnt trust the applied to the fur risk either. we went down the list of 'vaccines'. decided she would not be taking them. in 9 years, she's had 1 case of whooping cough at 3 months from her spay surgery, and 2 VERY expensive surgeries/hospital stays a few years apart because she decided that my wall to wall carpet was food, ate a large amount of the fibers AND the backing, & blocked up her stomach/intestines. ugh. $5k+ each time. 🤦‍♂ NEVER any other health probs or diseases. she gets quality supplements, coconut oil, quality food, plenty of exercise and tons of love. she also runs around outside constantly. i use essential oils in her fur & only reverse osmosis filtered water. and no table scraps unless its something (except salmon cuz she LOVES it!) my 1st wheaten Winnie died at 8 years after being diagnosed with progressive kidney failure. it was caught in its end stages cuz she showed no symptoms. she left me 3 agonizing months later. i will swear that the shots upon shots every year caused her illness, and swore i'd never do that to another one of my furkids!

Hi Dr. Jones First of all, thank you truly for the videos you upload to make the world a better place for dogs. I'm an owner of two dogs looking for a natural heart worm preventative. I live near Washington, D.C. where it seems the reported heartworm cases annually per clinic is 6-25 according to the American Heartworm Society. I just found the product HWF for dogs by AmberNaturalz and started having questions about the effectiveness and usage. It hasn't been easy finding opinions or feedbacks on the product online. Do you have any general advice on what kinds of products to use and how/when to use them?

Hello Dr. Jones. Me again, your huge fan in England. Is there any chance please you could open a center in UK or even Europe? I want to order your products but the shipping costs make it prohibitive. I already have people bringing their dogs to me for treatment!! I am starting your course as soon as my pay day rolls around. I would be happy to assist in start up of a UK center, but as I'm 65 I don't think I would be able to run it. However I do have someone in mind :) Thank you, thank you. My day is not complete unless I watch at least 1 of your videos. I would love to hear your opinion of Libela.

Dr. Jones, I live in Southern Oregon. It's very wet here. I have a river across the street in a gully from me. Lots of pockets of water too in winter, spring in pastures and fields. This summer I was eaten up by mosquitos. I see mosquitoes even in the winter and spring. We are getting warmer, not as cold in winter. My dog is on Tri-Heart Plus. She's 11.6 years old, 49#'s. You mentioned in a video about using Milk Thistle and/or dandelion after using meds or vaccines. I can't find the video. I have milk thistle tea. Thank you.

I adopted my bulldog mix from the SPCA in San Diego. But she was originally from Florida and had been sent from there to San Diego when a hurricane hit Florida . They told me she had heart worm and was still recovering and had to be on preventable medication they never specified for how long and my vet always says to keep her on it. She’s been taking a heart worm injectable preventable for a few years. I adopted her at the age of 4 and she’s now 8 1/2. Should I always keep her on the preventable? Love your videos! Keep up the amazing work! All us dog parents really appreciate all the work you put in to help us and our fur babies.

Thank you so much! I decided not to do heart worm prevention with my dogs this year. We live in Maine so it's not a huge problem here. My dogs are also never outside by themselves at all. They are house dogs. They want to be with their people. On the occasion the mosquitoes are bothering us we just use a natural bug repellant or come inside. It is nice to hear that I am doing the right thing, because I'm not going to hear it from a practicing vet .

I would purchase Mosquito dunks, then place pales of water in 4 corners of my yard with a chicken wire cover to prevent other wild life from drinking the water. Place the 1 dunk in each pale. This should prevent the eggs from hatching. This not only helps your 4 legged friends but your family and friends.

I have since moved to the northern part of Fl the world capital of any bugs. My dogs never had the prevention while up north But since we have been down here, the bug capital of the world i put them on it . And I cringe each month I give it to them .. they are older now 11 and 8 as I they did not have it for a long time. I only give give the rabies shot because it is required by law at down here they take no prisoners So far so good I do use citronella plants around the house and we really don’t have mosquitoes maybe one or two so I’m lucky in that respect but if they say it only takes one Thank you for what 🐾 you do

Every single time I watch your video I always have this nagging thought - if only you could move into Toronto, my dog would've been your most faithful patient! 🥰 Hard to trust anyone these days. Last year I went for a visit when I felt a lump on Bessie's bum in top of her, left side in a place where her thigh/bum area ends and the back begins...can't even explain it properly, sorry :) She had an x-ray almost two months before regarding something else...and then I cut her long fur short and began feeling this lump. After a while, when nothing was changing I went to see her vet. There was a new young guy. Eager to convince me this lump is nothing to worry about. He attempted to show me, this is just a muscle, that she has the exact lump on the other side. I didn't feel it and I said so...his response was, well to trust him because he is a vet (sic!) and his diagnosis was this lump was nothing to be concerned about and quickly changed the subject to vaccines. I said Bessie's fine for another year since she got a 3 year lasting rabbies vaccine so she's good for another year. And here is when he started lecturing me on taking a series of other vaccines that she didn't get over a couple of years! Is there even such a thing as getting for previous skipped years, when even the older gentleman (the vet who is the owner of this clinic) advised me what vaccines she could have, but stressed out that the only one required is the rabbies vaccine and all the rest is my choice, but nothing to rush about. If I lived in a country, bin a forest or a farm with tons of different animals, including the wild ones, plus ticks and all, I would've most likely want Bessie to have whatever is available. But downtown Toronto full of people and hot concrete? The thing is, a year later the lump is still there more solid and easier to detect and it definitely is NOT a muscle.... My trusted vet took a break from practice for health reasons, I'm not going to see the one that talked more about the need of taking all the yearly vaccines that Bessie skipped on over the years - is that even a thing? Something like filling up a backorder? Catching up on all the vaccines by taking all the missed doses first?? While ignoring the lump and not considering any further tests on it? Any idea what should I do? I know, the best would be to check other vet clinics until I find the vet who'd do tests on a lump and instead gaslight me and skipping a subject to something else... ? If I had an unlimited budget, that wouldn't be a problem, but my skimpy budget is really lean and I can't be experimenting with different places and different vets. Any ideas/advice or critique would be greatly appreciated!
