@@tb5827 You think this film ISN'T woke? the "Hero" is a police officer with a cocaine addiction who is clearly meant to be at least a little bit corrupt, his brutal style is destroying his life, his marraige is on the rocks. The two police officers in his team who get killed or injured in teh shootout are the white guys, the black cop and the native american survive. The three crooks are white straight men with superficially happy materially comfortable lives, but underneath are deeply dysfunctional because of their need to fund the "American Dream". The young prostitute is an African American girl who is murdere by a white supremacist, who is the most vile character in teh film, and the one who we are all happy to see killed. The second most vile character is the sleazy corrupt banker played by William Fichtner. A person using a wheelchair is the one with the cool plan to rob the bank, no mention is made of the fact taht he uses a wheelchair, its not an issue because he can do what needs to be done. The only time we see Vinent show empathy or tenderness is when he is comforting the murdered girl's mother and when he finds his step daughter dying in the bath. Vincent realises his self image of masculinity toxic and that it is influence is destroying his wife and daughter's life, so he voluntarily leaves them for their own good. Chris's wife sheds Chris after realising that he is ultimately an abusive and controlling person with a gambling habit he can't control, she decides she will stand n her own two feet and raise their son herself. Vinvent sees reflections of himself in Neil (in that they are both driven professionals who have cut out personal attachments to achieve their goals), but his shooting of him at the end may be a metaphor for Vincent "killing" the old version of himself. This film is woke as f**k, you just didn't realise it.

The best sense I have been able to make of why it wasn't better received is that the critics saw it as a remake of LA Takedown rather than appreciate Mann & Co's desperate efforts to bring this work of art to audiences in whatever firmatvtgey could at the time. I imagine it has even been tried as a play. DeNiro and Pacino gave my respect for 'getting' the extraordinary script abd signing on, and the extraordinary supporting cast that didn't over-play their parts. Abd then there is the cinematography and the sound craftsmanship. Arguably the most masculine tragedy ever presented on screen. It has epic written all over it. What a palette. What an intelligent film. What 3 dimensional characters. I would love to know what the great female actors and directors think of Heat.

I was mentally ill at 18, experiencing the first psychosis of my lifetime, bipolar disorder manifesting symptoms awful for which I had no tools to cope with, but the end of this film, HEAT, it just dissipated all this negative energy from inside me and left me cold, empty and devoid of the emotional tears in the fabric of a life, and so rather put me calm and at peace I love this ending, I love the piano, I love the existential overtones and refusal to bow to the inevitable----refusal to bow to going back inside. Anyone who can die on principle deserves special recognition. "Told you I'm never going back." Bravo, magnifico!

Finally, somebody recreated the far superior movie version in the extended format. I still can't believe Moby never released this euphoric version with that incredible crescendo in any commercially available format. I've been waiting since 1995 damnit! And any album featuring both Brian Eno and Moby for a movie featuring Pacino and De Niro in their primes, must surely be one of the greatest creations ever.

Such a beautiful score for such a great film. Watched it for the first time today. Blown away by it. So many incredible scenes. The acting by De Niro and Pacino some of the best I've ever seen. What a film!

It’s not a movie you watch, it’s a movie you live, feel, embrace. Can’t explain it but each time I watch it (more than 10 times now), I feel transcended. This movie is a journey full of deep emotions. The scenery, the music, the blue color Michael Mann uses… Time stands still when you watch this movie.
