Yeah, Mechwarrior mechanics are adapted from Battle tech and first introduced by the tabletop rules. Those rules where turn based while 1 turn should represent about 10sec. The Rifleman antiair weapon platform was designed to send alpha strikes against mobile air target's which only offer short windows of opportunity, in mech to mech combat the rifleman was under armored and had no durability due to the heat management only allowed for weapon usage about every 2-3 turn so about every 25 sec. This was a trade off of the high range burst load out making the mech a support fire class not a typical front line unit. So for this i think the build still performs quite sustainable (even for a winter map). What concerns me much more is the power fantasy aspect adapted by the arcade games and the extreme hero story from the novels. You go in with one lance and fight of multible lances and support from helis, tanks and turrets (still no love for infantry). The game is still designed in a way that this against all odds situation usually end up with u destroying all enemies and not losing a single lance member. So the player and his NPC lance outperforms the enemy setup by such huge amounts it just feels ridiculous. I know this is the basic assumption of almost every fps game but mech fights are in the most part resource fights (firepower/armor/mobility) and skill, lucky shots, strategy play a minor role in the games setting so this level of over performance feels odd. Why do skill, luck and strategy barely matter? Skill is limited to spread damage and focus fire. This is worth a lot but not much more than being able to go through two 1on1's in a row if even that. Luck, here is no OneHitKill in this games, no massive crit damage (unlike in the tabletop). This is good to the regard that those mechanics would also work against the player and feel like pure rng results. Strategy, u got 4 mechs a limited amout of options and a fixed setting of engagement. Very little room for strategic choises. You are merly down to the balance of mobility, firepower,and armor and what weapon systems/heatmanagment to prefer. I expect heavier mechs to be more viable later in the game due to the lack of choices in engagements, so it boils down to range and burst trade offs. What would stll work and feel much more realistic would be fighting and equal amount on enemys. Fighting more enemys but set them in smaller groups or even single them out. Fight against large amount of enemys but heaving a large amount of allys making you one of the lucky ones in a huge battlefield where both sides have reasonable losses. Allowing for acutall stragegic advantages like support artillerycalls better terrain/positios (low range enemys with obstuced terrain / long range enemys in citys | maze like areas) or mecanics that allow to acctualy supprise and overcome enemys with sneak attacks where enemys mechs are not even powerd and stuff like that. This are common ways to make these massive overperfomances at least somewhat belivable, and they are used by a lot of games. But Mechwarrior keeps thowing metal against metal and having the player feel good for making his 60 tonns magicly weight 150 tons without telleing (or like me feel bad course i figure out i just win due to massive cheating done for me)
@Ganymede_the_great5 жыл бұрын
Just to be clear what I mean by super outperforming. In this skirmish he fought of 1 light Lance, 1 heavy\assault Lance, and finally 2 heavy lances at once. All three of these waves accompanied by medium vehicle support. Himself bringing a single heavy Lance this is just really over the top. If u actually had a mercenary business a contract for those odd's (if known) would not be acceptable for any amount of money as the chances to see payday at all is far from likely.

I had an amazing game of MWO in a Jagermech a week ago, during the challenge, where, miracle of miracles, the teams didn't NASCAR (it might have been a Faction match, actually, but it was on Tourmaline), where I was able to hill-hump at about 900m, right at the range of the AC/2's, and a little outside ideal range for the AC/5's. Exactly the kind of scenario the Jagermech was designed for, and getting to play it in that situation was SO satisfying!!! And so much fun! NASCAR is for Cicadas. I wish we could play MWO with firing lines... I remember when I started playing MWO almost 6 years ago, and the call would go out at the beginning of the match to "Form on the Assaults". NASCAR seemed to start getting to be a bigger and bigger problem as that call got made less and less...

My style has always been single large hits, big fan of PPCs, or the ol' Behemoth II from old Mercs. Letting your heat spike with a few big shots, then being forced to wait for reloads, works out well for me in practice, there's not many mechs under Assault class that can shrug off a couple rounds of that kind of thing to the core. Looks like that'll still be my style, unless I find out that I can reprise my old Supernova build with continuous lasers in every slot.

@c182SkylaneRG5 жыл бұрын
From what I gather from the lore I've been inhaling over the last couple years, Archers actually WERE more common than Catapults. Archers were universally found in all of the Great House militaries in relatively large numbers, and Catapults were mostly found in the Capellan Confederation and Draconis Combine. I'm pretty sure I've heard that Archers and Stalkers were the most common 'mechs of the succession wars battlefields, and there was at least one in every major battle. I get the impression Awesome's were pretty common, too, just based on Natasha Kerensky being more afraid of running into an Awesome than an Atlas because running into an Atlas wasn't likely to happen.

You said yourself it has bad heat management and multiple times in that engagement, having coolant would have saved you from powering down and taking more damage. So I really wish your Leopard would remain parked just over a ridge, or something, where you could return to it mid-mission to reload your ammo. All of these 'mechs with limited ammo for their main guns typically stayed near some sort of ammo supply so they could be reloaded during combat and keep firing. MW3 allowed you to bring mobile field bases with you, which you could return to to get more ammo if you used up what you were carrying. MW4 had stationary repair bays. MW5, you're flying around in a dropship which has the maintenance capacity to conduct minor repairs and rearmament, so it stands to reason that you should be able to go back for more ammo and then keep fighting...

My understanding is the game is set starting in 3015, at the end of the 3rd Succession War, before the 4th Succession War started in 3028. The Gray Death Memory core isn't recovered until 3028. It isn't until after that , that they started to be able to build double heat sinks and they didn't start to come into common use until after the Clan invasion in 3050. Unless you find a Star League cache, you aren't likely to get access to double Heat Sinks until very late in the game. Also the game is only supposed to go up to 3049. The last Major conflict before the Clan invasion is the war of 3039. In the War of 3039 you start to see more recovered Lost tech as well as Kurita gets access to old Star League designs through their deal with Comstar.

It seems some people have a hard time distinguishing between career modes and skirmishes, so I figured I'd try to help some. . In a skirmish: Everything is disposable. You can go all out - charge into swarms of enemies without a second thought. After all, you didn't have to earn that 'mech or the lostech installed in it. Career mode: You are using and managing the fruit of your own labor. You won't often feel the urge to charge into enemy lances on your own without a solid plan behind the action. The rare 'mechs and equipment you will find (and hopefully they are very rare) should be cherished and protected. For comparison, it's the same in Total War games - multiplayer skirmish battles often end as Pyrrhic victories which is definitely not something you can sustain in a campaign. In the campaign, you also have to raise and collect taxes to spend on recruiting soldiers and you also need to make the proper, expensive buildings with lengthy build times to recruit more elite units that have high recruitment costs and upkeep costs that YOU have to pay every turn! I hope I've helped distinguish the major differences between the two by now ;-)

There are a lot of missed graphical opportunities here. When Mech's die they just kind of float to the ground when falling over. These things weigh 10's of tons. They should shake the ground a kick up dust when they fall over. Missiles apparently are propelled by flash lights because they leave no smoke streaks behind. Lasers looked better in MWO Particle effects looked better in MWO Jump Jet's look like shit and by that I mean they look like they couldn't lift off a toy rocket let alone a 40 ton battle mech. Why are there Giant buildings in the middle of the wilderness? Makes no sense. Buildings fall apart in predictable squares which is just a missed opportunity for real dynamic physics based destruction. It all just looks very last gen in a lot of ways. Why isn't my mech's information actually part of the cockpit. Why isn't the HUD actually part of the main windscreen. These aren't graphical nitpicks these are immersion breaking graphical decisions I'm criticizing. I'm as desperate for a new MW single player experience as the next guy but I don't think this is it. idk, some of ur points are valid for sure, but others.. the ways building colapse isnt bad, and its not the main focus of what the game trys to deliver, so in that regard i think it got enough attention to be a nice side-effect, and for the particle effects, i think the PPC looks sick, same for Projectiles, tho the missles look realy weak and miss some smoke particles and same for JJs. however Mechs finaly feel stompy again, something MWO left to desire sadly, even Lightmechs feel like theres alot of weight involved (which i think isnt to easy to deliver, else MWO had done so) but overall im still very happy for the game, and keep in mind they can still improve those points with updates, rather than keep ppl waiting another year (its been almost a decade since we got MW5 baited, and then it turned into MWO instead, leaving alot of ppl wanting but not recieving. so im fine with wait a bit for more graphocal finetuning as long as that means i can finaly get my hands on a pretty solid looking basegame) also so far we only saw the Beta, there can be so many things UI and graphic wise that are still getting polished and therefor wasnt included into the Beta

Sorry Baradul, but I'm gonna wait until after the game releases to watch these. Been a big mech fan since I was a kid playing MW2. Don't want to ruin my surprise. I'll watch your vids later, I promise.

Haha, no worries mate! :D

Just because it has that many slots doesn't mean you need to fill them... cut the weapons in half and add more heatsinks... IT'S AN AMAZING MECH... it is legit stupid to have all of those weapons when you can't fire them most the time. wtf? So stupid.

I look back on this Mechwarrior trailer and dream of what might have been. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHu4ZZx3abmKf9U More sim. Less arcade.

people that think its easy just because you can throw themselves into the enemies lines never played instant action before

They don't realize you can't do this in the campaign because you will definitely go broke from repairs and losing equipment
@Darktotaled5 жыл бұрын
@@brianberger5101 most likely. MW4 Mercs was kinda costly to pay for repairs and replacements

Jaja, MWO hilft Dir hier gar nichts, denn MW5 ist das erste Battletech-Spiel, das sich an die Regeln hält

1)Very stupid AI. 2)Graphics looks great.

This is also just a beta look guys not the actual game

yea actual game will probably be worst like the majority of new release these days

Like that has EVER made a difference. Lol. No, for the most part, this is what the game will be

My biggest complaint with the demo is how stupid the AI is. Lights constantly standing still, no torso twisting from any 'Mech, really bad positioning, etc. One lance of 'Mechs wading through dozens of tanks, aircrafts, and MULTIPLE lances of enemy 'Mechs just doesn't seem very "realistic". That is why i see it as more of an arcadey game. B33f summed it up pretty nicely: "This is a game for people who play with a joystick, not someone like me."

So, if you go with crappy Mech load you will have more difficult time? This is not changing the fact that if you make just small effort to optimize your lance you will have not only easy time, but your single lance (270 T) will have 100+ kills. (16 Mechs, 11 air, 49 turets, 32 vehicles in my last Raid mission) That is the to arcady and not enough tactical part. There is no challenge for me in those 'Instant Actions' and that makes the game boring. Which is the worst thing that game can be. I really hope that the campaign will not be the same. And the Devs give us a lot of options to customize the game difficulty. There is no other way around if they want to make it interesting for veteran Battletech players like Baradul and the kids that just want to pew pew around with giant Mechs. I really hope that the Piranha didn't go and create this game with the idea to be more casual and easy to attract a bigger player base and more profits.

ya...nah, this game looks no better then MW4 merc which is like 10 years old or something i mean sure its a tiny bit better looking but not even close to the graphics that we should be seeing here its a sub par game by a triple A developer ,which is the norms these days
@iamplay7975 жыл бұрын
@@Wolfeisberg sure but there is no immersion if the graphics aren't there its just a shooter game after all so pretty boring real quick this game is not polished enuff its 2019 not 1991 the quality is not there you can play MW4 or MWO and have has much fun it has nothing to offer other then a really minimal quality improvement
@BlueCorsair15 жыл бұрын
That's what I thought until I actually went back and played MW4 and realized that the graphics weren't as great as I remembered.
