Your heater/AC set up is just like my 1991 , Dealer installed AC. Yep I have the exact same Receiver/dryer with the sight glass. must have been a dealer install Kit. Always great videos.

Yeah it's an odd install I have not seen too many trucks with it! But heard a few have it after posting a couple vids.

My father in law was the previous owner of my truck. Since the 1990's the truck has gone through 3 heater cores, he was very thorough with maintenance. His take was that the dodge needs a heater core every 10Years usually from leaks. The truck is a late 1993 D250 LE.

@@OvensGarage Yes they are a pain to replace, I replaced mine in winter of 2020. Because I literally had no heat in my 93 5.9L. And now in 2022 I think I may have to do a heater core flush with what you just showed me, because the heat is not very strong anymore.

@@NothernXCanadian You might want to think about flushing your coolant system in your rad and block. If it's only been two years and your heater core is gummed up...something is up! Maybe consider a coolant filter I think those are available.

Cool heater core box. Is that someone elses install? I didn't think that was stock.
@OvensGarage
@OvensGarage 3 жыл бұрын
The story I got when I bought it was the truck (Non-LE) didn't have AC and the original owner brought it back to the dealer and they installed this system with AC. I believe it was installed on some earlier 80s dodges. The heater control unit is also different. No vacuum actuated flaps all manual.

@OvensGarage I have the same style heater core box with the door that slides up and down on the passengers side. Do you find that adding an access panel closer to the drivers side is necessary to get the leaves out or can you get them all out through the door?
@OvensGarage
@OvensGarage 3 жыл бұрын
@@Miles-oi8yr I don't think an access panel is necessary. I was able to stick my phone camera through that slide up door and point it left and see if there were any leaves blocking the heater core. You could easily stick a vacuum hose in to get the debris from there.

One other thing I did was similar to your bypass oil filter. I added a bypass coolant filter to my truck, and despite how clear the coolant always looked, you wouldn't believe the brown and grey gook that it filtered out. Thankfully it was only really bad with the first filter change. I think it was mostly residual rust and casting sand. The later filter changes had minor grey gook, which I think might be silicates settling out of the coolant, but don't know for sure. It was definitely an eye opener though. I can't imagine that filth circulating throughout the cooling system did any favors for the water pump.

ive done the access panel, updating all the cooling system in mine, ran winter fronts, i cant drive mine past -15 feels like im outside, all my directional controls to defrost, feet, and forwards work, but i get the faintest heat coming out. I only feel the heat and have to turn it down around -5 to 0 degrees. Past those temps id run it completely full tilt and the max setting seems like it would be the first setting, im trying this flush when it gets warm out, and if that doesnt work im doing a cab diesel heater, sick of not being able to drive mine here.

@alsun35

your saying it did increase the volume of heat that was coming out of the vents? I think if the volume was up the heat im getting is alright the problem is like it cant distribute it throughout the cab. Well see anyways and i almost am 100% going the diesel heater route regardless, the fact i can turn it on and have a timer for it to come on before i even get in it. Especially here then i can drive it in -30 and dictate the temps inside the cab
@OvensGarage
@OvensGarage 3 жыл бұрын
@@alsun35 yeah have always wanted to do that too. You can get those diesel heaters plummed into your coolant system too so it heats up the coolant and cycles it into the cab through the heater core

@@alsun35 is your pickup factory air? if it is you have a blend door issue. sadly yours is internal and not like what Ovens showed in his vid. pretty sure his is dealer installed (mine is and it is just like his) if yours is dealer installed then your blend door is right where he showed it in the vid. by the way all your videos are great. have learned a lot and I though i knew some stuff. Awesome vid 👍 curious if that vacuum valve on the heatercore line needs to be there, or can i just get rid of it?
@OvensGarage
@OvensGarage 3 жыл бұрын
If it's not there coolant will be running through the heater core all the time which means there would be heat in the cab all the time unless your fan is off or blend door is set to cold. What some guys do is just install a mechanical ball valve and shut it off in the engine bay during the summer months.

Part of the problem these days is antifreeze isn’t as good as it used to be they are trying to make it less toxic for animals which is OK I understand that and also better for the environment well when they do that they take out certain ingredients or additives I should say that make it what is supposed to be I’ve been using Amsoil antifreeze and since they switched over to Amsoil I haven’t had any more problems with my water pumps on my old 91 dodge six in row under the hood 91.5 actually but anyway oh I was losing water pumps quite frequently and also I noticed when I look into my rad anyway corrosion is not a problem and I think it would go along way it’s Sunday if you have to change your heater core her I’d recommend and I would do it anyways to switch over to Amsler antifreeze I can’t see any antifreeze it’s better than that anyway oh this is six in a row jim From Kennerdell a Pennsylvania
