@@PhilipNation-xm5lh Sadly, there are A LOT of 'Slum Lords' who target the less fortunate, because we tend to not complain about the conditions of the place that puts a roof over our heads. Now, as far as the cleanliness of the place you stay is solely on you. I remember back in the 70's, my mom and dad were rented a place in the minority side of Milwaukee, WI, from a yt man. The landlord didn't really want to rent to our parents, because there were five of us kids, but he took a chance. He came back after about six months to 'Check the Damage', but was amazed at how my mom and dad had the place looking better than when he rented it to them, and was 'Scratching his head' and looking kind of ashamed. Later on after being in that place for two years, my mom and dad bought their first house from a white couple. After six years they came back just to see how the house was, and they too were AMAZED at what my mom and dad had done to it. Point being... It's not 'an epidemic', but rather the rules that are set by the parent(s) and ethics instilled into the children, because we were all rambunctious little boys. With our parents, we had to go outside and play, and not play inside the house, because that's when things got torn up. When we entered the house, we had chores. That taught us to keep the house as nice as we could, because elsewise, we would have to clean it up.

I feel for you having to work in those conditions all the time 😔 But apparently it pays the bills very well 👍 Seems like a lot of those places where you're go to haven't updated anything since early 80s or they are just a disaster. I can find no info on my furnace but best guess is 1990 with AC added a few years later. Been here since 2001 and I keep it cleaned out twice a year and filters replaced every 2 months. Still chugging along so far. I don't do this kind of work, just find it interesting to see what you find when troubleshooting the various types of equipment 😊

Blower speed might be too fast. Usually when the furnace is turned on, it will run at a slower speed, then wide open like it would with the central air conditioning. So it doesn't cool off the heat exchanger too much.
@john7017
@john7017 7 ай бұрын
Needs a fan limit with a 24v preheat circuit to stop the short cycling. The problem with lowering the fan off temperature is in warmer weather the blower may stick on and not shut off. Maybe lower the blower heating speed...

That unit is old, any time I see that color of green, I know it's an old one. As far as a grant, she is just a tenant and I don't think landlords or should I say slumlords can get it.

I hate to be "that guy," but _please_ wear your seat belt. Riley needs Daddy to come home safe every day! (As a child, I spent far too many hours of my youth riding shotgun with my EMT father to car accidents, I've seen the statistics in real life... Plus, all the airbags in modern vehicles are designed to reduce injury under the assumption drivers/passengers are properly restrained during a collision.) I assume mercury-bulb thermostats must be pretty much level in order to function properly? 😆 They might not be as fancy as those electronic ones, but they seem to be quite robust. Ours (Taco brand) were installed in '75, and they still work well to this day on our new (installed in 2005) furnace, so we've seen no need to update them. Glad it was an easy fix!

This house was bad, but the one a few days ago where you couldn't find the circuit for the heat strips was WAY worse. My question is since there are children involved, would you ever call social services if you see children living in such squalor?

That is not the correct way to adjust those high, low fans cutoff switches. You need to put a thermometer at the opening of the closet exhaust vent to see when the fan is turning off based on vent temperature and adjust accordingly. Guessing is not the way to go.
