Cool scene. Shotgun: Studi ejects all 00 Buckshot out (red shells). Loads it up with special slugs (blue shells) to blow door hinges off door. Pacino does a 'press check' on his Colt 1911 Officer to make sure a round is chambered. Then Henry Rollins gets owned by Pacino!!!! haha

itsstans75 As I near the end of my life I now look back and wonder? What harm did the criminals ever actually do besides robbery? They didn't hurt anyone until after they got busted during the bank heist. Otherwise they would've peacefully, and happily, sailed off into the sunset with not one injury besides the bank manager who got punched. Waingro massacred the poor innocent policeman in the initial robbery, and they tried to kill him. Had Waingro never entered the film they wouldn't have hurt anyone

@@itsstans75 It was the greatest. No CGI no bullshit special effects, just real gunfire and an exquisitely executed action sequence. I can't imagine what it was like for audiences at the time, since the film picked up slowly at the box office. The gun shots were actually 'scaring' viewers to my understanding. I love the bank heist scene so much because you are nervous rooting for the robbers when Val Kilmer is taking the money out of the vault. Maybe some viewers wanted the cops to win? I can't envision feeling that way? I wanted to see them escape so badly I felt like I was robbing a bank.

@Snaggle Toothed I agree, I've thought previously that I liked how he was in this role as just one of the team, much like in any workplace. He's an equal on the team, and not a token appearance in any way, he's just there. Of course Wes Studi could never really be 'token' anyways. Too many films and TV programs come off like they're force-feeding diversity when in Heat, Michael Mann simply treats all people like people without shoehorning anyone into a political-correctness category. I miss that.

Hanna, from meeting McCauley, knew he would go for the bait. Neil should have ran when he saw the cop with the shotgun at the hotel, but his revenge factor overwhelmed his logic.

I never noticed that Casals reloads his shotgun with breaching rounds. I always just thought he was making sure his shotgun worked.

He loaded 4 breaching shells when he only used two. The second two should have been red still but at the ranges in an apartment it really doesn't matter i guess. Either way this movie in regard to firearms and guns fights is the best hands down. Its the standard

Did he just leave those two shotgun shells in the elevator?

validranger11 he was swapping from his normal load to shells he had in his pocket. The pocket ones were solid for shooting out the door hinges, and yes I think he left some buckshot shells on the elevator floor.

Fun fact: Al Pacino's stunt double in this scene (the one who runs through the doorway) was the guy who originally portrayed Vincent Hanna in L.A. Takedown, the movie Heat is a remake of.

Casals and Drucker screwed up the approach to the car. Hanna didn't want them to go loud until they were all in the car. Chris was outside of the car and saw them across the street. That's when he started WW 3. Waingro and his two hoods shouldn't have left Trejo alive so he could tell Neil that Waingro was the cause for all the mayhem.

Haha, love this raid. First, two shots at the door, knocks the door down (almost falling over), gets into the apartment with frenzy, trying to knock Rollins down WITH the shotgun, then throwing him out of the window. Must be a textbook example how to do a raid.
