Lol, Tony told Hector Angel was his "brother" IMO so that if things went bad, Hector would go for Angel first in order to use him as leverage, which is exactly what happens. This meant Tony could wait for Manny to come help them while the dealers threaten and then hurt Angel. And when Hector was about to do it, Tony did nothing to help Angel, he refused to tell Hector where the money was and blow the deal, he chose to let Angel suffer an agonizing death instead. He subtly gives off that he's scared shitless (No one in their right mind wouldn't when faced with the prospect of being cut up with a chainsaw), yet he still shows defiance. Even in the face of almost certain death, he doesn't crack or panic. He just remains almost motionless, like a coiled snake waiting for the right moment to strike. Because one, he's trying to buy time for Manny and Chi Chi to come back him up, and two because he knows that talking won't save him. Pay attention to the extras and how realistically they react as this scene escalated to the street. The old lady grabbing her purse and pushing people out her way to get out of there, and the guy sitting on the end of the porch. He’s watching what’s happening, not really running away until he sees Tony run downstairs after the guy with his firearm. Suddenly he’s like “forget this, I’m out of here!”-I responded to scenes like this in real life and I’ll tell you their reaction was as real as it gets. Great film.

This is seriously one of the scariest scenes ever put on film, more than most horror films. The way they steal and kill people with no emotions and probably actually enjoy taking another persons life. And the fact this takes place in broad daylight with people a few feet away with no clue the horror that is happening in that room. And also the fact Ive been in similar situations where I could easily be ripped off and killed because there was a sick person who wasn’t ever planning on doing a fair exchange and just wants to steal without any care who they have to kill to get it. Luckily I was never doing business with any lying thieves and killers.

Agreed. I grew up in Miami in the 1970s and 1980s and it was scary even as a kid. I didn't trust Colombians until I was adult and realized that most of them weren't drug dealers. My dad knew at least two guys killed because of deals gone bad, one a close friend executed in his hair salon shop of all places. Another killed by a crooked cop in the Dominican Republic who started a fight with the guy and claimed "self-defense." The victim had in turn been robbed of his drug sales money so he was executed for losing the money. It had been his first drug sale and we think he was robbed by the guy who set him up with the drugs to sell in the first place.

Watch carefully. You never see the chainsaw actually ripping into flesh. But you definitely feel it happening. A little blood splatter, sound effects, terse effective dialogue, and masterful editing. The chainsaw scene is actually created in the viewers mind through suggestion, much like the shower scene in Hitchcock’s Psycho. You never see the knife plunge into Janet Leigh. But you certainly believe it’s happening. Scarface is a masterpiece in filmmaking. Nothing quite like it.

The foley for the chainsaw is amazing - really nasty, rasping, rusty saw sound.

"The most disturbing moment is when he hacks off one of Marvin's ears, and while this moment isn't actually shown onscreen, it's still chilling. While the camera pans away during this shot, it was so effective that many viewers still felt like they saw the ear being hacked off.Mar 8, 2021" RESERVOIR DOGS

Not that I have any experience but I think if you were just minding your business on the beach you wouldn't be particularly inclined to notice someone with a compact gun at their side if they're not waving it around. Just move quickly and naturally and it'll stay in people's peripheral vision

There's many Hector's in our day to day lives pretending to care and small talking wasting our time.. I'm going to be like Tony said, "STOP FUCKING AROUND" and do business, because some people got chainsaws with our names on it(symbolically speaking) This movie, if put into perspective gives lots of life lessons. The ending especially,Tony accomplished his goals and then some, but he didn't think ahead, got to comfortable, and his ego grew with it. Life is no joke. We sometimes forget; we don't live forever, y'all. That's why I love this movie. Its message😮 And of course Al Pacino killed it! Respect to that man🫡

One of the most brutal scenes in film history. When I saw it for the first time, it really shook me up... and I was a grown man. It ranks up there with the ending of Casino, when Joe Pesci and his brother were brutally beat with baseball bats and buried alive.

The problem here was that the guy Manolo was not paying attention to his job. This is why Angel died. It turned out best for Montana and Manolo however for after this death they immediately became close trusted allies of the boss. For a while at least.

I remember watching this scene on tv in Spain in 1994. It was on at around 6pm. They didn’t cut it, showed the full scene. As a Brit I was shocked, we wouldn’t show this film before the watershed which is 9pm in the UK. We still wouldn’t today. I hadn’t seen the movie at the time. I asked what it was called. They didn’t call it ‘scarface’ in Spain so I went years without knowing which movie the scene was from. I discovered this film later on in life and boy was it worth the wait… second only to The Godfather …

In the 80s, my dad ran a few blocks down a busy Miami street with a rifle in his hand chasing someone. Some punk kid had thrown something heavy at him in his shop and he chased him out and down the street. My dad grabbed the kid, told him never to do that again and never come back and walked back to his shop. No police came, no one reported it. 1980s Miami was out of control.
