The April 1981 Iranian Mission to attack the Iraqi Air Bases (H-3) required the F-4 Phantoms to fly the entire 1800 mile mission below 300', this included 4 Air-to-Air Refuelings (at less than 300')! Pretty amazing, I just can't imagine an F-4 Strike Force all refueling below 300 feet!

My dad once had an engine 1 fire complete failure or engine 2 on approach with the RF-4C, he lost all hydraulic and movement of the aircraft pitch and roll while the aircraft was having a hard time stay up on air due to the engine failure and low speed, he landed that plane using manual trimming. They came very close to losing their lives and ditching the aircraft. However, my dad doesn't give up easily

My dad has a piece of a crashed F-4 in his workshop. In 1984, an F-4 (actually RF-4C) smashed into the side of Inadu Knob in the Great Smoky Mountains, just down the hillside from the Appalachian Trail. There are thousands of pieces of the jet scattered all over the hillside if you can find the site. We found it in 2000 or so.

I grew up with F-4 C/D's and RF-4C's (1974 - 1981) my Dad was Avionic Maintanence with the 18th TFW at Kadena AFB Okinawa Japan. While we were there I fell in love with one specific F-4D. As a kid I got to play Fighter Pilot in the Front Seat and Wiso in the Back seat but what made me fall in love with this specific F-4D was the Six (6) Red Stars she had on her Port Intake. Tail Code ZZ AF 67 - 463 (44th FS). The Aircraft that Steve Richie got his 3rd, 4th and 5th Kills in and Chuck Debelvieue got his 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th KIlls in. I would love to go up in something faster than the Cessna i went up in out in oregon at the Mcminnville airport thats across the road from the Evergreen Air Museum where the "Spruce Goose" is stored. Which is where i got a once in a lifetime special tour of the cockpit in which only presidents and astronauts was allowed to go. Quite the expirence!

In my very young days I lived in Greece opposite a major air base. They often held air defence drills circa early 1980s. I recall seeing dogfights between greek phantoms and mirage f-1s. The f-1 could easily turn inside the phantom circle to go tail on. This was probably necessary as the f-1 was at that time only equipped with AIM-9 P's for air defence.

So, how does this module emulate the behavior of the F-4 at high angles of attack? At high alpha, the Phantom was prone to depart due to the use of spoilers for roll control. Several were lost this way in the Vietnam war, and pilots were trained to use rudder only to roll the plane at high angles of attack. You should test this out, to validate the accuracy of the flight model.
