Against Palace what Amorim tried to do was obvious. Palace play a similar system to us so both teams match each other around the pitch. He decided to use a fluid front 3 to disrupt that man to man situation. He dropped Bruno into the defense to make it a 4 when building up to outnumber Palace’s front 3 press. With Mainoo playing up front he could drop into midfield to replace Bruno. It was clear in the first 10-20 minutes of the game what went on. But the players still aren’t good enough. Something similar happened under Jose when we beat Chelsea 2-0 and Herrera man marked Hazard. We used a back 3 as well to match their players and we won the individual battles that day and won the game. Our players did not do that against Palace. This sort of understanding of the game isn’t what we get from this panel. You see it more from the late night crew.

We should absolutely not ‘play to the players’ strengths’. Their ‘strengths’ are hoofing the ball up and trying to run in behind. We did that for 3 years and where did that get us? I agree the manager has got to pick better ‘footballers’ in their right positions i.e. Amad, Mainoo, Zirkzee, Eriksen but playing to the strength of players like Bruno, Casemiro, Garnacho, Hojlund, Dalot, Maguire is detrimental to our progress. I am sick and tired of these lot. It cannot be a coincidence that under our last 4 managers, the team has not pressed high up. No matter who the manager is, we always start slow and lethargic and let the game pass by until we concede a goal and then wake up or start to panic. Surely that cannot be the gameplan of 4 different managers in 4 years. Either they cannot do it due to their technical and physical limitations or they refuse to do it. Either way, they are not fit for purpose. Keep Amad, Kobbie, Collyer and the summer signings. GET RID OF THE REST.

I think ppl are afraid to have a conversation of Ruben’s lack of adaptability, Fergie played like 10 different formations if someone is lacking a plan B this is an issue. He can find balance by playing one attacking and one defensive wingback. It should have been Mazroui and Antony but Amorim goofed it. Cas should partner Ugarte in Centre Mid, Amad and Mainoo in 10, ZZ up front. Eriksson must come in at some point, his dead ball speciality may come in handy. Get Bruno and Dalot out of here... Then perhaps that means Amorim must go too.
