At the end of the day in those 4 tournaments England only once beat a top side which was Germany in 2021 who was going through a bad time. They beat Colombia in 2018 on penalties which wasn't very convincing. All other fixtures they have had were ones that they were EXPECTED to beat. The likes of Sweden, Ukraine, Panama, Slovakia, Slovenia, Denmark etc So is it really that big of an accomplishment for Southgate doing the bare minimum ?

I like and respect Gareth Southgate as a person, but he just hasn't brought the best out of what is, on paper, a fabulous group of players. To mix my sports, England's footballers played in this tournament like a fantastically gifted batsman who, instead of destroying the bowlers with his range of powerful attacking shots, instead just blocks and blocks, pushing half volleys meekly back to the bowler. Southgate's always been a defensive manager, but we have at times played some good football in the previous three tournaments, scoring quite a few goals in the process. However, it was at times painful to watch England in this year's Euros, and I for one don't know why.

I have not heard one logical reason as to why he should have kept playing the same players throughout the tournament or why it took four games to pick Maino. @adtastic1533 I think the English massively overstate the quality of English players. Case in point: Foden. He is shite for England and was pretty shite for Man City until last season, but he's not even close to Man City's best player, much less the Premier leagues best. That accolade falls squarely on Rodri, without whom Man City are woeful and pretty much lose games. Yet Foden got player of season - English bias towards English players. English players aren't really any better than the players of other great footballing nations. This gets exposed in national tournaments.

not true. You don't speak foreign do you? Performance matters, and other county's press will tell you this, and I can assure you that they haven't been kind to England. Southgate apolagists rely on his tournament record which ignores what everyone can see, which is that England are tactically boring, negative and naive. Klop, Guardiola and Emery have proven in the Premier League that coaching and management matters, and that the manager decides how the team play. Southgate deserves to be judged on these elements, no matter how woeful England's performances have been in the past.
