You are over-thinking the system specifications. Size the pump for a high volume to keep the grid evenly heated. You want the anti-freeze moving quickly. As far as heater sizing; small engines running continuously are more efficient than large engines running sporadically. If the heater really proves too small, split the system at the manifold into two and run half at a time.
@JeffWybo4 жыл бұрын
Hey great advice thank you! Going to get a dual on demand hot water and a boiler, (pottable water will be separated for the home) bring the lines up the the manifold, insulate it by building a box on the outside and hopefully by January melting snow.

Its my understanding that you have to regulate the heat to keep it above the atmospheric temp. If the heat isn't constant, just the base layer of snow will "melt" but then the air/wind will cause it freeze again. I am curious to see how this works out. Worst case scenario you've invested in a skating rink!

50 gallon plastic water tank with lid, circulating pump, smallest boiler available, glycol mix, whats the problem? One warning I want to give you though, its a problem I have seen boiler guys not know about. I set up boilers at water parks, big and small. Your average plumber installer will make this mistake. Water going in and coming out of the boiler has to be regulated down so that the boiler water outlet, is hot, specifically set. You might be thinking, the water will be cold coming into the boiler and as the boiler works, the water will slowly rise, sounds simple enough and that does happen. However, you can completely corrode out a brand new boiler without temperature regulation in one year and people freak over a pile of rusty dirt made from a brand new boiler literally crumbling. If you run cold water just free and clear through a boiler, it keeps the combustion chamber too cold for efficient burn. Even if the gas and air and everything is set right, a cold heat exchanger will drop the chamber temp and cause soot and acidic conditions that eat away a boiler. This doesnt happen much in homes so they dont get the same experience with failure of this magnitude. The water has to be slowed down enough so that its temperature rises to the right temp as it comes out the other side of the boiler, and then the flames will be clean and blue and your boiler will last. That heats the water tub or tank. Flow from there through the melt system is a different thing. I would use a circulation pump for just the boiler to the tank set to tank temperature, and a separate circulation pump for the melt system. That way you can pop the tank lid and maintain water chemistry so easily.
@JeffWybo3 жыл бұрын
Great advice thank you!
@Chris-hr4ly Жыл бұрын
This boiler loves cold return water and it’s efficiency goes up the colder the return temperature are. If the return temperature gets above 140 degrees the efficiency drops to into the 80% range, the systems you are referring to can’t have return temperature below 160 degrees or condensation will happen and destroy a boiler.

What’s does all the views tell you about us? We HATE to shovel that white stuff!😂 I have a long driveway that it is very hard to drive up it even with an AWD vehicle, even with expensive snow tires, when it snows. I have to hurry and either put the melting chips down that sodium chloride stuff but even when it snows a lot and it doesn’t make a difference it is hard to get up my driveway so I was looking into putting some of these warming mats down in some strategic places where my tires get stuck. But I’ve just decided that I’m going to move to a place where I don’t have to do any snow removal at all ha ha Esp. since I am single, grown kids and would rather do other things than home maintenance;) Cute fam! Enjoy, they do grow so quickly!❤️
