Humidification is recommended for every patient receiving invasive ventilation. It is also suggested for non-invasive ventilation, high flow oxygen therapy and patients with tracheostomy or laryngectomy tubes. Humidification prevents airway spasms, hypothermia and improves comfort.
There are two devices which help the airways stay hydrated. They are heated humidifiers and heat and moisture exchangers. Each device has positives and negatives. Join me this week as I discuss the differences between heated humidifiers and Heat and moisture exchangers. #lifewithavent #humidifer #hme

Hi lovely vent lady💗that was another interesting video, even in this day & age when things have got smaller some things still weigh a bit! I can't think back far enough to see if my air was heated! It still takes up a lot of room on a wheelchair as I do know most ventilator dependant people use powered wheelchairs! But what do you do when you go out & can't have the air you breathe heated? I just remember going out in to the garden of the rehab hospital & what seemed a giant machine breathing for me..😭it felt like a major job with a nurse holding the pipes etc! Don't your lungs fill up with the heated air from the machine? Your a good teacher with a lot of patience, god has taught you well! 💗💗💗

Thank you for your kind words. When I leave my home, I do not use my heated humidifier. Instead, I use a Heat and Moisture Exchanger (HME). My lungs dry out using a HME, but it is better than not using one. The air from the ventilator is very cold and dry. It is recommended to use a heated humidifier as much as possible to prevent the lungs from drying out.

@@LifewithaVent they say God moves in mysterious ways & I cannot thank him enough for directing me to both your you tube channels,I know your a very private person but it was good to see past the ventilator! If you don't mind me saying this as I don't want it to sound like I was chatting you up for want of a better word,in one before & after video you were in a doctor's coat an above the knee mini dress or skirt you looked very attractive, but what I am clumsily saying even with a ventilator you still look very beautiful! We get to see the machine & all the tubing & everything that helps you breathe & keep you alive, but we don't see who I call the vent lady the woman behind the ventilator,we know how much you believe in God & going to church but how has the past 5 yrs been for you mentally? The shock on your friends faces seeing all the tubes coming out of you & a machine breathing for you! And no doubt a powered wheelchair to carry your ventilator etc! I can't thank you enough for letting me open up & remembering my 3 yrs having a machine breathing for me & would that have been my life! Nobody knows what the future may hold but I am so lucky that somehow god should me your channel & it's helped me with my anxiety & PTSD,I have hearing aids to try & help me hear a bit & a full time indewelling catheter as an external bladder among other stuff! I am still praying God will save your dad's eye! If not he has God & the family to help him through it all 💗💗

@@barrytaylorprofoundlydeafi2479 Thank you for all your kind words. i am so glad it is helping with you anxiety and PTSD. When I got sick, I lost most of my friends. They went on to finish their medical training in various parts of the USA and Canada. (One of my friends went to Israel.) When I got my ventilator, it impacted mostly just my parents. I have few friends--most have only known me since getting a ventilator. Most people have no idea I once lead a "normal" life. Thank you for your continued prayers. They are much appreciated.

@@LifewithaVent we used to call them fair weather friends..I had one friend that stuck by me at the time of the accident, the farmer was more worried about whether I would work again so to get a replacement! But when you have some physical disablity or a medical aid people are afraid to talk to you,I expect when your out people see the ventilator & probably think you cannot speak! I know mother's find it hard to see their child connected to a medical device, you are right about the "normal" thing,I may live thousands of miles away but I would like to think of you as a friend & it's been nice emailing you! It's not all been about medical stuff but we are real people that have medical issues,I love hearing about how ventilators have changed over the years & I find everything you have to do interesting & I look forward to each new video! And it's good to talk religion with you thank you & god keep you safe & heal your dad's eye! 💗💗💗

Can I use a cool mist humidifier from Amazon? I can't afford to get a heated humidifier like yours.
