Armstrong has more of a right to avoid being insulted if he hadnt insulted other people so unfairly in the past. In the end i feel it was a calculated interview on armstrongs side. i dont think he was directly insulted. It was more like a police/courtroom style interview where the emphasis was on armstrong to prove he isnt guilty of anything. If he doesnt care or comes up short then it tells its own story. The only criticism i would have is that the thankyou the interviewer gave at the end sounded disingenuous. Armstrong at least turned up and gave his time and that should have been respected. Also in other videos this interviewer has a habit of putting the spotlight on a single rider. The drug problem was systemic and changes have to happen at the top.

I don't understand the criticism of the interviewer. Of course the focus of the interview is going to be about doping and how disrespectfully Lance treated people. Lance was a master doper and cheater who treated people with disrespect and contempt and was able to avoid getting caught for quite some time. Suppose you were interviewing a bank robber who robbed 100 banks and didn't get caught. Wouldn't you be curious how the bank robber was able to successfully rob 100 banks and not get caught? Its not really about what kind of cheating method in the end. Armstrong has the choice to fully come clean, look like the good/honest guy. Or he can look bitter and hesitant and come across like hes hiding something...which will prevent him ever being seen as the good guy. I think his biggest weakness is an apparent pride he has in the complexity of the doping system and his achievements while on it. Of course the majority of cyclists were doping but i think other cyclists do a better job in being grounded and realistic about it. Personally i think swallowing a pill or injecting yourself with something requires no talent or skill, just money perhaps.

This guy did a good interview with Tyler Hamilton. This interview isn’t good. His hurt feelings and bitterness toward Lance comes through clearly here and it makes him sound pretty childish. Lance did horrible things. That being said, this interviewer just comes across as sour grapes. I also kept waiting for it to get “heated”, but I guess my definition of heated is different. This wasn’t heated at all.

It's very fitting that the Irish have been in the vanguard of bringing him to the light. You sin, you repent (sincerely), and you're absolved. Lance is sorry he got caught. It's obvious, he exudes it. That's why the public hasn't embraced his redemption story, there's no recognition that he did anything wrong in the first place. You can tell by the way he talks: He apologized, if they won't accept his apology, there's noting he can do, he's the victim once again. It's a pretty good litmus test for sociopathy if you empathize with this guy. 'Everyone was doing it!' What kindergartner hasn't had that excuse rejected: 'Everyone was stealing, everyone was cheating, everyone was picking on the weak kid.' It's a scary commentary on our society that as many people seem to empathize with this unlikable character as do. He's a Greek tragedy, and in a Greek tragedy the hero fails to recognize his flaws, or only partially sees them when it's way too late.

Asteriskstrong asks how he can have anything to do to improve the sport and deal with anti-doping because he has a lifetime ban. Even Ben Johnson took a turn for an anti-doping campaign that actually had some good platforms including out of competition testing, a test once someone gets into the system so that any changes are obvious, and a truth and reconciliation process for sports like cycling that are completely are nearly completely tainted. If you are doing less than Ben Johnson, you aren't interested in cleaning up the sport.

Exactly. Why apologize? Lance didn't create the culture of doping in cycling. It was there long before he arrived, and it is still there now. The blame for all of this should either be on cycling's governing bodies, who turned a blind eye to what was going on, or the fans themselves, for deluding themselves into thinking that their favorite rider was clean, or that banning drugs creates a level playing field. It doesn't. There will always be someone who tries to gain an edge by taking an illegal substance. But by banning drugs, you actually hurt the honest riders. There's simply no viable solution to the problem.

Also sometimes he didn't even take no for an answer. That made it painfull to listen to for me. Like the part where it was Lance's word against his (or his source) about whether or not his apologies were accepted by Greg Lemond and his wife. As if he wanted to have the last word and just repeated what he thought or was told. My suggestion would be to not give the impression you're biased, ask more open questions or be prepared for an answer that is opposed to what you think or heard.

Let's face the facts... 1. Doping continues to be rampant in cycling because (as it's been said many times), you can't finish the tour (much less win) without something! (Without drugs... first week flying, second week dying, third week fu@ked!). Also, the average speed of the tour continues to climb, providing solid evidence that widespread doping continues to this day. 2. Lance was one of the many doping (just read Tyler Hamilton's book) at that particular time. 3. Armstrong's mistake was that he was SO nasty to those around him. Read Hamilton's and others accounts of "walking on eggshells" around Armstrong because of his single-minded narcissistic approach to winning and doping. 3. I think people don't dislike him so much for doping (because he was a champion amongst fellow dopers) but because of the dreadful way he treated his teammates and staff in defending his line of BS regarding the actual doping. Further, his books misled many (me included) to believe Armstrong was clean. Nevertheless, Ger's approach was unprofessional and biased in the interview. His loathing for Armstrong was palpable. I definitely would not defend Armstrong in any way, but that doesn't justify poor journalism and barely concealed hatred for Armstrong. I've heard quite a few of Ger's interviews with other riders regarding this issue and they are usually underpinned by bias and a hatred for Armstrong which just comes across as totally unprofessional.

The guy pointed the present about mini motors in a bike. Lance tried to point out it was over 20 years ago. Don’t like Lance and what he did to so many people. Worse, people deserve financial restitution not delved in adequately here. Poor job by the reporter.

surprised you made it that far into the interview. It's one thing to "dig" and ask followups, it's altogether another allowing your "agenda" to reveal your personal bias. I enjoyed the anticipation of LA's response to some of your intentional clumsily worded questions. I believe you could have achieved a better outcome through a more accomplished skillset as an interviewer. Your tried at times, though. Sláinte.

Dougie doug , motors in bikes in 1990’s, that’s what stupid. So this was a bad interview. He kept haranguing Lance about not saying enough and that he should answer questions about this or that, but he has Lance ask him the questions you think he needs to answer. He does when its specific about Lamont or the Andrieus, if he lies he lies. But if you feel he needs to answer a question... ask him the question.
