Only one comment for Destiny, Black people are not additionally sensitive about racist remarks however the majority of cases in regards to this will likely be from black people because your Audience being primarily North American and white will pull from the largest ethnic group they have history from to draw racial stereotypes and jokes about. The default position on a discord with your demographics is going to be heavily skewed towards commentary on black people because that is what they are most familiar with, and so the majority of complaints your going to have on your server pertaining to racism is likely going to be from black people due to this. If there was a primarily Indian based discord where they discussed edgy topics and the demographic was Indian men the racial animus would likely skew towards the Chinese and as a result the majority of complaints would likely be from the chinese members of that primarily Indian discord, that does not mean the chinese are prone to complaining rather they are prone to bearing the brunt of racist remarks on that discord due to familiarity.

25:26 Saying something as an insult, but when a black person hears it that makes you a racist. Absolutely a thing that happens. Raiding in WoW during Shadowlands, most of the group was irl friends and we pugged the rest. We close up shop after 10+ wipes on a boss mid-way through and the pugs are filtering out. The "offending" friend leaves for the night, and one of the pugs(a dogshit druid) sends a whisper saying that our buddy is a racist. We're all surprised and asking what happened and he says that he was being a racist and attacking him for his performance during that last boss. All but the one friend stayed in voice, so we're all asking each other if someone messaged this guy and no one knows what he's talking about. So we tell him must've been one of the other pugs. But he comes back and gives the name and says that he was being racist. So now we're all apologizing for him and saying we'll talk with him and stuff, that he's never like that. The guy is genuinely a nice dude. So the next day we're all on again and ask him if he messaged the druid last night and he's like "Yeah, I called the guy a monkey. He was a fucking idiot and didn't know what he was doing." We said that the druid was apparently black and that he was a racist. We had a good laugh about it. So from the black guys point of view, being called a monkey is racist. But from the white guy who had no knowledge of the guys race, he was being a dumb monkey for being bad at the game and unable to learn mechanics(because he didn't).

This is a bit difficult to navigate because the nature of the chats. From what it appears to be they tend to tilt towards; ironic, dark, edgy. What makes it even more difficult to regulate is the fact that the conversations (despite the topic) shift from genuine and sincere to trolling, disingenuous, and satirical seamlessly. Another layer of difficulty comes from the nebulous nature of the word racism and how it’s implemented in conversation as well as principles, in this context being American. So the balancing act one has to manage is between regulating the behavior but not to extent of it becoming too professional and unfun and the addressing the sincerity of the claims someone makes.
@jacktack8653 Жыл бұрын
@@hijklmnopreaper So my question then becomes how do YOU moderate that? If it’s not rocket science, what about that could you have done better? It’s not the question of maintaining a casual atmosphere, it’s maintaining a dark, edgy, and casual. Because from the outside looking in, there’s just no way of doing it because of how nebulous the term is in it’s application and also just simply the nature of these convos. To have permit dark and edgy humor, you open the doors for the more unconventional topics like racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia. The problem that we have is we can even define properly what RACISM is in casual conversation without the interpretation being read as dogwhistle and waters are muddied further in a more a nuanced style of communication that revolves specifically around those type of things. I disagree thoroughly, there’s absolutely nothing simple about regulating this.

I hate this point of “You can’t be making jokes/trolling if you aren’t my friend” point, that’s not how the internet works. In fact I would say that most jokes/trolling is done amongst strangers. If you are friends with someone then there is a good chance they’ll see through the troll ruining the joke. That’s why most people troll strangers, it gets a better reaction. This is internet 101. This complaint just seems like a huge misunderstanding of how the internet functions.
@dylaroo24 Жыл бұрын
@@hijklmnopreaper Yes, none of what you said have I disagreed with. No one is talking about joking with strangers “thinking they are friends”, I’m talking about trolling strangers on the internet thinking they are strangers, it’s very common on these kinds of discords. The whole point is that they are strangers and not friends, so I don’t know where you are going with that, I think you simply didn’t understand what I’m saying. I’m also not just talking about some jokes with friends, I’m talking about trolling people into thinking you are being serious. Trolls want reactions out of people, that’s the whole point, that’s what makes it entertaining to people. I’ve seen people try to troll friends lot’s of times only to have the friend see through the troll and shutting down it down. The friends know each other, so they know when they are being serious and when they are just baiting for a reaction, so it’s harder to troll friends. This is just common sense and the basics of trolling. I think you are conflating “Jokes” and “Trolling” as the same thing. They aren’t. We all know what a joke is, I don’t need to explain that. But trolling is when you try to bait a reaction out of people for the sake of creating drama, people find it funny to watch people freak out. As I said before, this is internet 101, everyone knows this stuff. Also I’ve never stated I engage in this behaviour myself, but I don’t need to in order to know that this happens all the time and what the motivations are. It’s the internet, we’ve all seen our fair share of jokes and trolling, we know the differences and why people do these things, it’s not some complex mystery why this happens. None of what I’ve stated should be contentious to anyone, it’s the most basic take about the internet. You talk about “inside jokes and ribbing in jest” but that’s what I am talking about. I’m talking about trolling someone to bait a reaction out of them. If it’s an inside joke and the friend knows it’s just jokes made in jest, then it’s not a troll, it’s just a joke. If the friend knows when you are joking, then you can’t troll them. The whole reason people prefer to troll strangers is because it’s easier to bait reactions out of people, it’s a simple thing. I’m surprised I have to explain this really simple concept tbh. So your statement about friends having inside jokes and understand when an edgy joke or ribbing is made in jest proves my point. If they know these things then you can’t troll your friend, that’s precisely the reason you don’t have be friends with someone to troll them and it in fact makes it easier to troll people if they don’t know the person they are trolling. That’s literally my entire point.

I'm a regular in the DGG discord and I'll say it's somewhat 50/50. Whenever there's a black person/people in one of the VCs they're either quick to be insulting anyone that comes into the VC, or, taking everything anyone says back as racism. I've definitely seen a few times some legitimate racism in DGG, but it's pretty rare from my experience. The politics server has far more edgy racism stuff

I'm a regular in dgg and this never happens at all. It's literally always that subtle racism and if it's called out people act Hella bad faith and not actually call them out.

@@MrDotWilson I'm open that you have had a different experience but I've definitely seen some overt racism here and there. Like I say though, pretty rare and most often the perp is banned pretty quick

@@hijklmnopreaper Maybe. But it also comes off as a “it’s not the true OG fans, it has to be those other people that just recently started watching” type of thing, though. I get what you’re trying to connect. One could try to see if there is any correlation to when he started covering the topics and the uptick in certain behaviors in the server. However, it can also be turned around to say that since covering topics that the “redpill” sphere usually talks about, many of the “OG” fans could have felt more comfortable to speak openly about it, as well, instead of just laying all blame on those _other_ new viewers because there could be a relation to the types of content he’s covering bringing them in. Those types could have always been there prior to him talking about it more, but now they don’t feel the need to tiptoe around it as a result. If anything, the only solid connection one would be able to make is the conversations being more open about it and that’s really it.

Why are Majin and Solus so bitchmade? I understand Destiny farming them for content, that makes sense, but everyone else wasting their time for discord drama holyshit.

Seems like Soulless wants to simply say this 1 dude is racist (or at least all of the examples given were only of him) and that is ok, soulless tried to go to a reg, and they were unhelpful. Instead of going to the head reg, soulless went straight to Destiny, but soulless can't just come to Destiny because of one racist dude, Soulless has to try and frame it at prevailing racism throughout the discord, but Soulless only has evidence for the one dude so the argument sounds weak

I would have been on their side more if they conceded that regging discord vc is super hard. They never seemed to give any ground on “we can’t just ban people cause two people say they were racist with no receipts”
@RealSmul Жыл бұрын
I completely agree with this, however the fact they got banned is completely out of line.
@Violaphobia Жыл бұрын
@@RealSmul maybe, but as somebody who has been banned from both the disco and the Reddit before, bans are almost a right of passage. And that’s not even a bad thing, it’s a check that tells people “watch yourself, bitch”. I’ve talked to both of these guys, and listened to them spout of ridiculous homophobic bullshit. But NOW they’re crying foul over edgy comments. Idk, it’s kind of a “you have to be there” situation
