Just realised the mistake I made thinking that those 2 plugs 2x12 gets plugged only in the clock spring. Wrong. The clock springs plugs into DTC module (disk) through 6 pins while the other 6 (later 12 pins that you modified from 6 gets everything else..

You are an absolute gem for me because you tried to make changes to an existing wiring of the car! But your car is much newer than mine... Now I am trying to implement the heated steering wheel that I have. But, the 12 pins plug that the car has it already, is the model with steering wheel airbag that (probably) is using all 12 pins, because is an older model of the car (2005) with Airbag Gas Generator... that probably triggers locally the airbag... What compromise or adaptation can be made in this situation? I do have access to newtis to check and change as much as possible. I would like to share some pictures of the plug and other stuff.. that is already in the car (the 12 pins one..). Or I can make a list of the colour of each cable that are in those pins.. if that help you with suggestions for me. I really want to adapt this heated steering to my car! I do have the clock spring as well with the socket that has 1-6 then 7,9,10,12 pins for internal resistance of the steering and the termistor.. Please guide me, if you can or have any suggestions! You know already how much I am greatfull for your sharing experience! :)

Please help with this. How did you manage to plug 2 x12 sockets as it is shown at 22:04 at the back of the clock spring, when at 2:51 you have used the clock spring on the right (that I do have as well.. ready to install). You had on the old clockspring 12 and 6 plugs plugged in the back (one for airbag and one for buttons on the steering) then you converted into 2 12 pin sockets. This is what bothers me (big time ) because I know I cannot add any more wires for the airbag (as my model of the clock spring has only 2x6 pins (at the top of the clock spring!) and cables for the heating..) from the old one (12 and 6pins) to new one (12 and 12)... What I am Missing!?

Thank you very much for the comments Socrate Disciple's, my pleasure to share what I know. I hope you find something useful in the video! The connector contacts on BMW are made by TE Connectivity (marked Tyco in earlier cars) or AMP. TE also sells crimping tools and you can find the online catalog here: www.te.com/usa-en/plp/hand-crimping-tools/Y30yD.html I bought the crimper from a Japanese brand "Engineer" but I found the size of the crimping jaw does not perfectly match the TE contacts. Great detail! I just finished this on my F30. Question: I noticed the wiring diagram calls for a 10A fuse but your test shows only 5A current. I realized that I used only a 5A fuse and am considering moving up to a 10A now, just to be safe. Are you able to look up on ISTA if a 10A fuse is necessay on an F30 model (2015 328i)? Thanks and great job - subbed!

Hi José thank you for your feedback! I’m glad to hear your success! According to the F30 wiring diagram yes a 10A fuse on F48 is used for the heated steering wheel. I think it’s safe to use 5A as far as the fuse stay intact. But if a 15A fuse can get blown for the steering wheel, there must be something wrong! You are welcome to mail me for the wiring diagrams 🤗

Hi Dimitris, the main reason is I ran out of terminal 15 points. There was only one available on the fuse box, but I have several devices that need to use terminal 15. So I extended the terminal with relays. This is not original equipment but I think it’s safer than just tapping wires for electrical power from the original circuit. If I am allowed to add another comment, could tell the value of the resistance that is in the steering? That will be a fabulous answer for me! I would be a forever subscriber.. 😊😊 I do intend to fit a heated steering wheel to my car but I only can find second hand, the car being too old (2005). And, do you know if a heated steering wheel from 2007 onwards does fit to 2005, in terms of column and those splines, Do they match? How those controllers for heat are different one from another? Only that one that is in the steering wheel and other is located at the top.. are any of them with more or less that 4 wires connected to/from heat controller? Thank you!

@funcarsgoodpeople 6 ай бұрын
Hello SD, your comments are always welcome! I am going to replace the steering wheel cover soon, so I will take that chance to measure the resistance of the heating coil and let you know! For the steering wheel compatibility, I think the chance is high! A lot of models share with same steering wheel! I always use realoem.com to check. Select your car model and browse to the steering page. click on the part number of the steering wheel and you will see what other models use this part. My 2008 M3 shares the steering wheel with E8x 1’ from 2003 to 2011. So the spline is the same! Let me know if this works for you!

Hi Jack yes, the part number I listed here is the one with the 4-pin harness as you mentioned. However the actual one I got is another clockspring with 3-pin harness. The main body is the same so I modified it to the 4-pin harness as you see in the video. In another words, if you could only find a clockspring with 3-pin, you can also modify it like I did.

@funcarsgoodpeople 11 ай бұрын
Hi xkhan175 thank you for your question! My suggestions are; 1. Good news you already have the heating function. You are going to make it more easily. If you have an E9x, you need to look for a steering wheel with heater control module inside. 2. First you can look for styles of the heated steering wheels you like. I started with the ones that fit E-generations because the pinion mechanism of the F-generation does not match. I'm not 100% sure. This one in the video comes from E70 X5 or X6 I believe. Maybe there are some aftermarket ones that can fit E9x. 3. If you don't like any of them. Sure you can convert one! I think you can use the heater pad and control module from your original heated steering wheel, and combine with a M Sport style one. Best luck with your project! You are very welcome to share your success here!

@funcarsgoodpeople
@funcarsgoodpeople 2 жыл бұрын

Hello Benedek! I bought the whole steering wheel and I guess it was from an E70 X5. Thank you for telling us about the difficulties of isolating the heater pad, I really didn’t know that. But I believe the glue will be some trouble and it requires good leather work. I think it’s cool to “transplant” the heater pad and skin to another steering wheel, or to “implant” a new heater pad. Hey I know this video is a bit older but maybe you can help me. The m3 never had the heated steering wheel right? And non M models never had the option to get heated steering with leather. Usually it's always the hard polyurethane. How did you get yours in leather? Was it reupholstered?

Hello Xantor thank you for the question! This was one of the big projects so I still have some fresh memory about it 🤗 I believe that the heated steering wheel I got is from E70, although there are no part numbers on it. It’s artificial leather so the feel is not that good as the original Novillo leather ☹️, as I mentioned in the video. It’s pretty easy to find a heated steering wheel for this project. And I think it is a good idea to reupholster the heated steering wheel to match the interior upholstery 👍

The item name was “BMW M SPORT TECH 1/3/X E82/E87/E90/92/84 NEW NAPPA LEATHER HEATED SW THICK&SOFT” and it referred to part number 61316956550 and 61316944816. The seller is atlanticship and they shipped from Belarus. I chose it after carefully looking at the shape and style which suit my “stock” M3 😂 However you can still tell the difference by its texture. Looks and feels real plastic. So maybe you can get one with the shape you like and have it re-upholstered with the material you prefer 🤗

Hi Patryk thank you. The option code for lane departure warning is S5ADA (or 5AD). When I check realoem.com catalog, the SZLs are neither dependent to S5ADA nor S248A. This means lane departure warning and heated steering wheel do not require special part number of the SZL. Your original SZL may work. Best wishes for your success! (I do not have your VIN for using realoem.com so my result may not be 100% precise.)

where did u get those blue wires
@funcarsgoodpeople
@funcarsgoodpeople Жыл бұрын
Hi Shadman I sourced these original wire from another E92. The seller sold me the entire wiring harness of the infotainment/audio system so I had extra materials to use. You can also look for suitable wires in electrics shop. Just be careful with buying correct gauges!

do you know the dct heated wheel part number?
@funcarsgoodpeople
@funcarsgoodpeople 4 ай бұрын
Hello CrispCarGuru, I searched the part for 335i with steptronic (should be the DCT you are mentioning about) and heater, it is 32306795573, Airbag sport st. whl. lthr Steptronic. I know some 335i can swap M3 DCT steering wheel directly, while some need to modify the shift paddle circuit for their transmission. I have no information about this part so you are welcome to share your success here! Please let everybody know!

How did you do the coding?
@funcarsgoodpeople
@funcarsgoodpeople Жыл бұрын
Hello Cole, on the E9x the steering wheel heating is not controlled by any module so coding is not necessary. However if you really want to make it 100% OE, just add VO (vehicle order) "$248" to CAS and NFRM/FRM so that's all. On F-series and so on, coding is required but I don't have the experience so far 🤗 thank you for the question!

Hello fly bobbie yes you are right 😂 Now I feel like a heated shifter for the manual transmission, which is never available on all cars. A glove will be an easier solution!

Hi CatchMeFlyingByInMy335I thank you for the comments! I really appreciate it! This is one part of the earliest videos I made for this channel. I admit I was very inexperienced at two years ago and yes the video does not look like the way I will do it now. It is indeed too long so I had to split it into four episodes ... Anyway it's like a record of my growth! I still have fun reviewing how silly I had done. But if you have time, please kindly review my recent DIY videos and let me know if I have done better; Apple CarPlay Installation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3PXpXSNatahfqs MDrive Retrofit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnqunJRrmb6nppI and sure you can mute the video and use the CC to see what I want to say 🤗 I did not invent these DIYs. I am willing to share with everyone what I learned. Let me know if you have any question about the videos! Best, Carl
