Despite this loss Fernandez can be very proud of her play in this tournament. Very impressed with her maturity. I think she just ran out if gas in the 3rd set. Congrats to Watson for her win. Nice exchange at the net at the end.

It is sad but i think that at the same time the ladies doubles final was happening in the grand stand with Gugu Olmos from Mexico in it, so most of the people was there. Also, having a 500 on the mens side with top players against a much smaller WTA with no top ten players (i think no top 20 either) in the field will allways unbalance the attendance, next week in Monterrey will be the other way around: WTA tourney with a few big names and on the men side will be Challenger level... still, it´s a pity because it was a very good match between a solid top 50 veteran like Watson and a MARK MY WORDS future top 5 star in Fernandez.

Notice how Watson didn't seem that happy to have won and was more angry with herself for missing match points. This has always been her problem. She is just too hard on herself and it stops her from going higher up the rankings as her confidence is so fragile when she plays a bad match like all of them play. I mean, she'd just beaten one of the tour's most promising youngsters and won her first tournament in years, taking her back inside the top 50. And she looks annoyed with herself.
