So if Amber's main defense is that she didn't name Johnny in the article, then the obvious question is who was she talking about when she said she was a victim of domestic abuse? If she says it was a previous bf or family member etc, then it would still be a win for Johnny bc it at least clears his name if she can't say that he was the abuser. I think he deserves the money though, but if this case clears his name if nothing else, it's still a win for him.

That's not how it works. She doesn't have to be not talking about him, to be cleared of defamation. You can talk about things that happened to you without ever disclosing whose actions you are describing. I don't know why he took this case, he's not helping himself to look any better. They both just look really bad and it is just sad all round. They both need to go heal.
