The mid/late-90s is when they used computers to "crack the code" on writing hit music so everything sounds the same and is "written" by pretty much the same 15 people. Occasionally, a rare gem will sneak through, or Adele appears though it looks like they got to her with her latest album as it's largely meh. So, the songs have become pretty much meaningless as they're there to hold onto the hook of the song. It's why watching Name That Tune or Beat Shazam is hilarious. If they don't play the hook part of the song no one knows what it is unless they're uber fans of that artist/band.

@@scottsmartky actually that was over a decade earlier and that was done by ZZ top along with their producer to produce The eliminator album hit music was broken down to beats and mathematics then came eliminator look at the amount of hits the Giant videos everything but it wasn't well known until later on the mid-90s is not one of the songs so formulaic it's more in the early 2000s at right around after 2004 I would say more so so I agree with you in some ways but not completely
