Rolland has a very peculiar way of playing guitar, I've never seen one doing that much effort in both hands to play the sweet child o mine riff

My God I was thinking the same thing! There's barely any hand movement needed for the riff. Plus he removes all the grit and soulfulness of the riff. Not my thing I suppose.

I think it's because he doesn't appear to be using a pick, and therefore has to use all downstrokes with the fingernail.

@Ecki Z As far as I know he uses axe fx. But thats not the point the kemper and axe fx are offering better vintage sounds than you can get through your tube amp, expect you have a professional recording studio at home with tons of mics, diffrent eq‘s, pre amps, pedals and you should be perfect in micing your amp to get close to one professionell profile by one of the worlds best producers. Moreover its very common in rolands style of playing, that he makes things looking harder than they are, he is some kind of showman, but thats fine. But all in all I agree with the comments, the sound is too modern and the dynamics are missing imo. Btw EMG‘s are not that nice for that kind of lead playing where you need that much dynamics.
