Do your best to stay in the best physical health you can manage. Mental health, too. Read books by early authors. HG Wells, Jack London, etc. they will transport you to other times, other places. They will ring true because the authors were of those times and places. Vicarious adventure is better than no adventure at all. Appreciate every sunrise and sunset, even in the rain. Bonne chance.

Last month I watched the 1978 version of Heaven Can Wait with Warren Beatty, and it dawned on me there was one made long before that. Tonight I finally watched the 1943 version and its like a totally different story but it's a cute one.

Never heard of another version will have to watch it but this version is a gem never get tired of watching it.. the chemistry between Don and Gene is out of this world and rather fitting for the film. I cried and laughed at the same time with the harmonica scene.

Great example of when Narcissist people and codependency as well as home life slavery was all the rage. If you ever read house keeping and wifery books from that tome up to the 60s youd get why the world is soo f rucked up now. This is a gross example of what was expected of any woman back then who was a " good wife"

This type of thinking is what one would expect from someon who believes in spiritual anarchism. I was taught to respect the religion, thoughts and ideas of others. So, in honor of my parents I'll just let this go. Anyway, ever heard of fantasy?

*The old expression is “If the mountain won't come to Mohammad, then Mohammed must go to the mountain”.* It's a very old expression, this movie indicates it's been used since at least the end of the 19th century. I'm a Boomer and I've used it often during my life time. I've never heard anyone saying it any differently, or accuse him of being a pedophile. Most Americans don't actually know who the h3ll Mohammed actually was. Except for being a stubborn man that expected a mountain to come to him. Was there more than one famous man named Mohammed?

Jasper is my new favorite character in this movie. He must have fun working for two comedians. Daisy looks like she's just chillin' for her shillin'. 70 is not old. It's just, well, almost elderly. They are making so many movies about Monsters, or Tragedy, or Super Heroes, or Zombies, or Political, or Reality T.V. with people who who have no morals, or comedies that aren't all that funny or 50 commercials about pharmaceuticals that could give you any number of issues without the benefits of actually curing you. Warren Beatty's 1981 movie Heaven can wait is NOT a remake of this film; it was actually based on an old movie called Here comes Mr. Jordan. Causing widespread confusion ever since. So why wasn't it called Here comes Mr. Jordan then? Copyright issues, different studios being ornery, blah blah blah. Now at least that's still relatable in 2023.

I like how his Excellency (likely the devil) is shown as a kinda "decent representative", as though all the "clashes between god and the devil, heaven and hell" etc were actually more like mere "civilized disagreements" or "business disagreements" and religious nutcases just blow it out of all proportion. It'd be nice, if there is an afterlife, that it may actually have been like this. Truth be told I guess the film had to be this ubpeat as WW2 was raging while this was being made.

My favorite Lubitsch movie. Warren Beattys movie is a remake of the movie "Here comes Mr. Jordan" based on a book entitled "HEAVEN CAN WAIT" but Lubitsch had already used this title for his movie. Beatty dediced to stick with the original title. The original ending of the Lubitsch movie obviously had been quite different: (spoiler alert!!!): Ameche gets in the lift, up goes lift; lift stops, beautiful young woman enters but she has to go down to hell. Ameche looks at her and decides to go to hell again, saying "Heaven can wait", that´s obviously the intented ending and why Lubitsch chose those last words as title for his movie. Hope we will be able some day to watch that ending.

Cute story , but hell is no joke. I cannot understand the title ? Can someone give me a clue. Thank you.

The title suggests that Heaven had to wait for Henry because he seemed to go to his wrong destination of Hell. In reality God doesn't make mistakes and souls don't end up at their wrong destination for eternity. The devil hates everyone so the fact that he was kind and polite to Henry gives the wrong impression of him. The movie was made for enjoyment though.

the bible was written by sexist homophobic males and should be disregarded ! why people haven't learned to be free from such outdated stories is quite puzzling !@@psychedelicpython

I absolutely love this movie! I have no idea how long it's been since I first watched it and it's irrelevant because I can watch it anytime and never get tired of it. It's so a well written, well directed, perfectly cast and absolutely charming. Don Ameche is at his best and even Gene Tierney who I never much cared for is adorable in this picture.

I agree; very good movie. This is the first time that I've watched it, and I'm sure that I'll watch it again.

I love Gene Tierney, but I saw “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” and “Laura” before I watched “Leave Her To Heaven”. She’s convincingly evil in the last one. She’s lovely in this movie. The unbelievable part is how those two parents could produce such a physically beautiful woman, with the grace and manners that they lacked.

@@vickyvasilioy7437 , There are two, one with the same title, starring Warren Beaty, Dyan Cannon, and Charles Grodin, and one called “Here Comes Mr. Jordan,” with Robert Montgomery, Claude Rains, and Evelyn Keyes.

@@SuziQ.That wasn't a remake of this film. Warren Beatty's film was a remake of Here Comes Mr Jordan starring Robert Montgomery and Clay Rains as "Mr Jordan", the part played by James Mason in the Beatty film. The retitling confuses people.

@@robbarbieri8676 , The stories are similar, though. I saw the one with Warren Beatty and James Mason first, and this one last. Somewhere in the middle, I saw Here Comes Mr. Jordan, with Claude Rains and Robert Montgomery.
