Something that always struck me as a powerful message on this music is this: Trunks' timeline...is the true timeline. Before the time machine, what Trunks went through was what really happened in our story. We lost Goku before the fight began. The Z Fighters were all murdered. Gohan was alone, and we eventually lost him as well. Trunks was the last legacy of our heroes. The horror and pain of what was lost is PERFECTLY captured in this music.

Fun fact, watching that trailer on the VHS tape “androids - invincible” is one of the earliest, most vivid memories i have of life. I was probably about 3-4 years old. at my best friend’s house. (his parents are close friends of mine) it has the episodes where the z fighters get destroyed by 17 and 18, vegeta screaming in the rain with that legendary ost, trunks elaborating on his past with “trunks story” ost etc, I remember everything so vividly. This is why I will always love the VHS tapes.

I don't know if there's a word for this, but Trunks is the type of chatacter that can't exist for long in the DBZ/DBS story due to how he is. He's the only one that finishes off opponents quickly, and if he were to stick around, he'd either kill all of the enemies immediately (like Babidi's henchmen) or just constantly lose and that'd be boring.

My headcannon is that being exposed to God Ki makes you stronger, which is why the likes of Krillin, Roshi, and Tien were able to keep up with him for the Tournament of Power. I concur. Though I'll point out that the Japanese music for Cell does have a quite a bit of character. I'm currently watching DBZ with the Kikuchi score for the first time and after a few episodes, Cell definitely has music that IS him in the same way that Faulconer's "Mysterious Youth" IS Trunks. Ultimately, I still prefer Faulconer, but Kikuchi is not without his moments.

To everyone saying the original "hope of the universe" bit was better than kai. No. Just no. Those lines were cheesy, forced, and completely out of Goku's character. "Ally to good, nightmare to you!", seriously? Think about the power behind these words, "You haven't figured it out yet? I'm the Saiyan that traveled all the way from Earth for the sole purpose of beating you. I am the warrior you've heard about in legends, pure of heart and awakened by fury, THAT'S what I am!", it's much better. The dialogue in kai is far more personal, rather than Goku announcing himself as the protector god of the whole universe like some knight in shining armor, he is telling Frieza "I am everything you've ever feared and more". Sorry, guys, I grew up with it as you did, and I still like it, but the Kai dialogue wins here.

Bloodlyshiva exactly! As much as I enjoy Superman, as a character, Goku is not a goody goody boy scout, he's pure of heart, but an imperfect character. In other words, his imperfections come only from a place of ignorance or naivety, not from malice. So he CAN be arrogant, vengeful, and sometimes a general pain in the ass. He's not a "hero" in the strictest sense. He's the hero the universe needs, not necessarily the one it deserves, to quote batman lol
