The boy then confessed that he felt urges basically after seeing her naked. That means he never saw her or a girl naked before. The bathrooms & showers are segregated it seems.

In the manga its said some are intersex or have both genders. Not shure if all but considering they looked loke slug like babies at the beginning it wouldn't be the weirdest thing ever. So they probably dont put to much thought on that.

Spoilers for the anime + manga: It's been stated that the baby Tokio had was cloned with the Hiruko core inserted like the other kids. When the doctor had stumbled during the bombing at the end of the season, he mixed up the two boys and was unable to tell the difference between the clone and the real baby. It is unknown whether the child given to Tokio (the boy's name was recently revealed to be Yamato) is the real baby or the clone. And what makes it worse is that we as readers don't know if Maru is the clone or not. Why is that scary? Because with a Hiruko core Maru could turn into a man-eater. We can't tell the difference either because even children of the orphanage kids who were born without a Hiruko core have shown that they can exhibit special powers. An example of a child born with powers without a Hiruko Core is the baby boy that was from the 'all women' camp (his mother being one of the girls seen in the first 1 or 2 episodes kissing, and later turned into the invisible ice spider thing). While one without is the 'King of Hotels' aka Totori (She's the daughter of both Anzu and Taka. Taka turned into the first man-eater we meet in the anime, and Anzu turned into, a currently manga only man-eater nick-named 'Anjulas') that Maru and Kiruko meet before meeting Shiro and Mimihime (and yes those two were sadly them, I was soooo sad when I found out). Anyways, yeah, I just really love this anime and wanted to share that
