@galefromwaterdeep this is becoming a major issue with designer breeds as well. A lot of desired breeds tend to have health problems like chihuahuas or even for cat breeds too. My partner's aunt bred the absolute hell out of her maine coon cats, it was horrible seeing the state of the females. One the females ended up snapping and attacking her really badly and she just had enough and was sent to another owner. Poor thing wasn't a bad cat she just wanted to be left in peace. She's my cat's mother. In the UK maine coons are up by 300% in shelters now cos people can't afford their healthcare cos they tend to get problems with their hips. They're such beautiful and affectionate animals it's heartbreaking.

I adopted a dog years ago on her scheduled euthanasia day. I immediately took her to the vet BECAUSE she looked to be too skinny (she was a Golden retriever) and the vet said she was ok. My vet didn't even know she was pregnant. Five days after i adopted her, she gave birth to seven puppies!!!!🥰 What a surprise for us all. My $45.00 adoption fee was for eight dogs! It was a joy to watch them grow up until their new homes. I made sure they were housebroken beforehand, BECAUSE i would always take them outside with their momma. I put all seven puppies in a laundry basket and carried them outside and gave my Australian shepherd/Chow mix command to watch the puppies. It worked out great. Of course I was outside with them too to make sure the puppies didn't wander to the road.

It's BECAUSE irresponsible People that think it's ok not to neuter or spay the animals... ...and they breed like rabbits... 😱 Then the dog/cats get "thrown" away because these People get bored taking care of a pet! 😭
@magical5717 ай бұрын
it's a necesarily evil so long as people keep having pets. I know dog lovers on the internet are all perfect and they will say i'm wrong and that they, and each of their friends adopted 87.648 homeless dogs in a year, but in reality ALMOST all dogs that you see homeless, had a home before.....should we teach people? of course. but let's be real for a sec. Nobody will ever win against the "puppy eyes". dogs are so inbred nowdays to be as cute as posible that you will and always will have people adopting then ditching them once they realize how much they eat/bark/poop/bread etc. Pets should be way less common, only for those willing to neuter and have a chip on them. But "oh no that's not natural" people will just let the doggos breed like bunnies, or straight up abandon them once they grow, or they get tired of having to walk them and pick up their poop three times a day lol. i see it as the merciful way to have less dogs around period. Rather have that than 9 generations of homeless doggos. specially on poor areas were they grow agressive and end up hurting people on the street (i know, some people here who have the privilege to say "oh a dog would never harm unless provoled", they have never had the experience of crossing paths with a pak of angry strays. it happens a lot in more vulnerable areas of the world)

Do you have any idea how overrun, overwhelmed, understaffed, and underfunded most shelters are? Some have no choice. Instead of being so judgmental, how about you donate money and supplies? Or you can foster. Be the change, not the one causing more problems and drama.
@michellelansford20622 күн бұрын
I used to think the same way, but please try to understand that no one working in animal rescue would ever want to euthanize an animal. It’s an unthinkable situation they are put in due to lack of space, funding, fosters, and other resources. Shelters who don’t have great live release rates are the ones that need community support the most, so if you are upset about the situation, please find a shelter to donate to, volunteer at, foster with, or encourage your friends and family to spay/neuter.
@1packatakКүн бұрын
@ spay/neuter has not done anything to cut down on dogs going to shelters. Somehow a plan needs to be created and implemented that truly stops puppy mills and back yard breeders from turning out thousands of dogs that wind up in shelters. We need to come up with a way that when people move, their pet can go with them.

It's just disgusting and heartbreaking that so many dogs, especially pitties, are being murdered because of no space or other ridiculous reasons! 🤬💔..Thank you for saving this beautiful mama and her beautiful babies..❤❤❤❤..When will some humans/owners spay and neuter their pets!

'No space' is not a ridiculous reason. Public animal shelters are obligated to accept EVERY dog and cat that comes through their doors. They have limited space, limited money, and limited staff. Eventually something gives, either the space, the funds, or the number of hands. There's too many pets being abandoned, stolen, or looked after irresponsibly (and thus getting out/running away) and they end up there. The shelter can't take in infinite dogs.

if you were to balance your perception by watching a few news clips on the channel "pitbull victim awareness" you might see it a bit differently but you probably won't. no one has any idea what the characteristics of the male dog bred with this dog were, except when the rescuer said "she probably came from a not very good situation". nobody will know what the temperament of any of her puppies will be until one of them ends up on that other channel. i love animals and even hate to see the fates of some of the vicious "pitties" on that other channel, but what's wose is the innocent children and pets who become victims and the much safer non-pittie dogs who get euthanized instead of a pit.

13 years ago I volunteered at the local SPCA- NO ONE would walk the Pitties..I would and did, they had a 6 month old red nose that was scheduled to be put down that week if no one adopted her.I brought her home ,still have her,heart mummer and all.I also had her lifetime mate (who was also a rescue) until 6 month ago when he passed away of old age.I have Baby Girl and her grand puppy and with her mummer, coughing( had her vet checked and she receives medicine) I give her all the love I can and will always be here for her.Also my husband is a Veteran who has a Staffy for a support dog that is so spoiled, These are the best there is for the right humans :) No love like it!

When we got my dog the shelter we got her from had just gotten her from a different shelter so they didn't know much about her. They did say that it looks like she was heavily bred. She was also only 1-2 years old at the time. We made sure she knew that she was no longer a mama and that she got the chance to be a baby. She's our spoiled little girl now who loves to cuddle and loves treats. She's such a sweet dog that we decided to name her Joy and we always like to say that she is a joy to have around.

I loved how the foster had a ""puppy house" for what she probably would have suspected would have been the mama dog's "protective stance and behavior" soon after her babies were born.

It is true that pitbulls, with the wrong owners and training, can be very scary. However with the right owners, and the right training, they flourish and are the most loving, goofy dogs. I’ll always love these land seals ❤️

Female pitbulls are such good mommas. I rescued a pregnant pittie too and she gave birth to 8 puppies. I was able find forever homes for 6 of them but the other 2 ended up staying with me and the momma. It’s been 3 and a half years and until this day she still cleans them, and sleeps with them and she’s very protective of them even tho they are bigger than her lol. She’s such a sweet girl and a great mother 🥹
@dailyshenanigans48837 ай бұрын
That's the problem though, you don't know if they are still in a "forever home." As far as you know, they could have ended up on the streets or back in a shelter. That's why it's very important to spay and neuter your pets.
@jojojogonzalez23717 ай бұрын
@@dailyshenanigans4883 I completely agree with you! In my case I made sure to make those people sign a contract that said that they had to take csre of the dogs or if they didn’t want them anymore return them to me, so far all of them have the dogs still. I keep communicating with them. And right now the momma and the other two males that I kept are spayed and neutered. If I rescue any dog on the street to give it for adoption I make sure to spay or neuter first before giving it away. It’s all I can do, if I had the money, the space and the time I would have all the animals I have rescued with me trust me 🤍😩. I live in Puerto Rico and in here there’s over 600,000 stray dogs roaming around the island. It’s so bad and the government doesn’t help at all. People are so irresponsible here it makes me sick

I live in an island where there’s more than 600,000 homeless dogs in the streets and it’s not easy to take care of all of them when the government doesn’t help.

Yet a a 68 yr old man in Türkiye rescues and cares for 500 dogs and 100 cats all by himself and no government support. Abdulkerem. Our "shelters" were designed 50 years ago by counties as "animal control"..ie:places we send unwanted pets to be killed. Fact. I wish all the useless college kids protesting over nonsense like pronouns, actually protested the county shelters killing 20x the number of healthy animals compared to any other western nation.

What would be your alternative when there are 15+ dogs coming in every single day either surrendered, found stray or dumped unlawfully outside the shelter and you are running out of room, not enough people are signing up to foster, and you don’t have enough funding from your council/local government? Honestly, tell me what you would do
