Ray, your story resonates with the kind of quiet heroism that defines true service. Thank you for your remarkable dedication and sacrifice as a Green Beret Medic-it’s a profound gift to this nation. The backdrop in the video is striking, and Barbra's work truly enhances the beauty of the moment, capturing the essence of your experience with grace and care.

Don't let this mans humbleness fool you....These SF medics were trained to be a doctor, nurse, and surgeon all in one... these guys could do anything a conventional doctor does except with half the supplies and practically no pay compared to a actual doctors salary lol these old SF dudes are bad as fuck fr

Refreshing to hear his humility when arriving in country of how they were surrounded by older vets who knew the ropes and thought it wise to heed their advice. My grandfather was a WW2 and Korean combat vet (82ndAA/505thPIR) and spoke of the "headless heros" what he called them. Basically new guys or replacements that thought they had it figured out and ended up "headless" or KIA because of ego. He also used to say "having a big head in combat makes for a larger target" I thank this man and the interviewers uncle, as well as all that served in combat for their sacrifice....and that includes the "headless heros"!🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

I am so glad I found this channel. This was a very moving video for Me. Ray Ketcham is a special breed IMO, someone to look up to and use as an example to be a great "everyman" type of person. What a Man! Thank You for your Service not only in the military but as a Policeman as well. This is why the pay structure for police, fireman and teachers is so screwed up. Society needs quality people in these positions as the assumed responsibility is something the normal civilian can't fathom.

Absolute blessing that ya'll got this mans testimony on record... ya know i would bet money this man knew my grandfather....he did 4 tours in Vietnam with special forces... i say he probably knew him just because he was part of those first couple waves of SF guys that went in country to Vietnam like Ray here... they are also both from New York... my gramps was a Intel SgT on 2 different A teams that i know of... i cant find any info on what my grandfather was doing those other 3 years he was in Vietnam (he passed in 2016 so i can't ask him smh and he was the hardest meanest mf you could ever meet)

Bet he didn't tolerate selfishness by some spoiled rotten punk who never did anything to serve another. Service is why we're alive. "Everybody loves freedom,,, As long as somebody else is doing the dyin for it!!" My Dad landed Okinawa 3rd wave. Grampa was WWI I got my Vietnam Ribbon before my 18th birthday. Just an era Ribbon. On a tin can off the coast. Pickin Boat People outta the SCS after Saigon fell. Pisses me off. Unconditional surrender.

It's my understanding that the problem with the AR/M16 was due to the ammunition. The rifle/ammo combination was a complete package. Dupont could not keep up with the powder supply, so the government turned to Winchester ball powder. This powder produced more carbon which was jamming up the rifle. Originally, the rifles didn't come with cleaning rods because Stoner said they didn't need them. Well, that was with the correct powder loading. Think back to the Little Big Horn, similar problem. The original 45/70 cases were copper balloon heads, and the extractors were pulling off the case heads leaving the remainder of the cases stuck in the chamber.

More to it than that. The weapon was not ready for the field. The government said it was. They did the same with the M9, told beretta what ammo they planned to use and ended up using ammo that was way to hot.

My father has told me some stories where some of our men would even pick up dead NVA AK-47's because they were so much more reliable no matter how much they beat the 💩 out of them..He was in 1st infantry division big red one ...
@toddgrauman8408
@toddgrauman8408 Ай бұрын
It was a combination of the wrong powder, and the mistaken idea that they were so advanced that they didn’t need cleaning. Once they chrome lined the barrels, and bolt carrier groups, the problems pretty much disappeared.

I had lots of good reply's to my statement on the M16. However, after watching a video on KZbin, (Something solutions, can't remember) I have a better understanding of what went wrong. The carbon from loading was not the main issue, rather the new powder threw off the timing of the rifle which cracked bolts and pulled off cartridge case heads among other things. Which I could remember the site because this guy knows much more than I do about the M16.

I'd really like listening to these stories with my eyes closed. But every few minutes unwanted ads popping up, ruining everything.
@DontMeanNothin

Unfortunately it comes with the territory. We're entirely self funded and that's what KZbin has turned into these days. That being said, depending on the type of phone you're watching on you can find different applications to circumvent the ads. For example, I have an android and run PipePipe for when I use my sleep affirmations. Avoids ads getting into my subconscious while I'm sleeping. If you google it you can find it on Github and download directly. Hope this helps! Kyle

From "The Complete History of the AR-15 Rifle": The original AR-15 model used in the Vietnam War was the Colt Model 601 AR-15. The U.S. military selected Colt to manufacture the M-16, a standard-issue model of the AR-15, for the Vietnam War in 1963. The first M-16 rifles were issued in March 1965. The AR-15 was originally developed in the 1950s for civilian use by Armalite.

@@DontMeanNothin Likewise, I watched another Vietnam vet interview a few days ago who corrected the interviewer that it was not an M16 he carried, but an AR-15. That surprised me. Ray is now the second veteran (to my listening experience) to specifically state that a few variants were AR-15's, not M16's or car15's.

Sold out? We fund all of our travel out of pocket and invest tens of thousands of dollars into camera and audio equipment. Not to mention the hundreds of hours of driving, filming, and post production work involved. If you don't think it's fair to have 10 seconds of ads you can skip in a video, when it costs you literally nothing to view the content, maybe you should watch something on an ad free platform.
