I was at the Apollo for this performance. 17 years old and loving life. Heavy rocked it like he always did. The 80s & 90s were amazing. RIP Heavy D. We miss you.

Yo, I can’t explain how awesome it was. I was 14 in 1984 and blessed to experience the birth of a genre that changed the world in real time. Even living in Greenville, SC, EVERYBODY came through, multiple times for concerts. 1986 it was RUN DMC, Whodini, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J - all at the same concert and tickets were $13.50

Great time my friend. I DJ’d block parties and events through this period. Played in 3 states. Even did pool parties where celebrities stopped by. The energy and innocence of people wanting to be happy and be immersed in the creativity that Hip Hop brought was in the air. Not to mention pop, R&B and the other music of that era all combined to make the 80s and 90s a memorable time to be alive.

This era put thousands of black people in college. Even street cats broke left and went to school! In America, for black people, negative Imagery helped destroy us. (Bess believe it worked well!) On the flip, positive imagery works with the same effectiveness.
