Richard takes us on a tour of the colossal Freightliner truck he uses for his mobile mechanic business. This beast of a machine is a 2013 Freightliner truck M2-106 with 4x4 to get him through those forestry roads, or places that don’t even have a road yet.
The service truck tour has Richard showing us his mobile mechanic setup and what’s in his heavy-duty mechanic tool box. This Freightliner truck is jam-packed with just about anything and everything a mobile mechanic could possibly need.
As the mechanic's talk shop, Cam starts getting his own service truck setup ideas during the truck tour. So come for the service truck tour, stay for the heavy-duty mechanic banter, plus we get to snoop around in someone else’s stuff.

The soot that comes from acetylene can be useful surprisingly. Not for mechanic stuff like you guys do, but for us welders it has its benifits. Like if a hydrolic cylinder piston on say an excavator snaps in half, you can use that soot to cover the crome coating so that it doesnt get damaged by any sparks or spatter that could hit it while you gouge out the crack and weld it back together.

soot has a liability to be burnt. I keep a fireproof blanket in my truck just incase of welding buddy. Itll save ya in the longrun

I’m an owner operator of my own mobile mechanic business here in New Brunswick. I bought my first service truck 2 years ago, but I’d like to upgrade this coming year. Here in NB there aren’t many guys running crane trucks. It would be awesome to make a video/ review of some real world options of different mechanic bodies pros and cons

I’ve got the hose clamp cable tool. From what I’ve seen, a lot of times you’ll see those hose clamps and they’ll either be in just the right position that you have to get them with normal pliers, or they’ll be in just the right position that you have to get them with that tool

Richard that sleeper is a real life saver. I like bench seats better than my Ram seat, a person can sorta stretch out. I fell asleep one time, I fought sleep at that 5:30 am area for 60 miles and just as soon as i hit my off ramp 1/4 mile from house it was lights out, I went thru stop sign back on on ramp and on freeway. Another time after a nap about that 5:30 am area I waited for two logging trucks to go by before pulling on to road but that third one had to move into on coming lane. A few years ago a state forestry mechanic fell asleep, ran off road. You guys did a great tour!

Air hammer with blunt chisel to loosen fittings, big time saver. Air hammer with punch to loosen NOX sensors threads, good. I have two air hammers, a 50 year old CP it is great for these light touch jobs and semi blunt chisel for a slag removal. I use a Big Nasty Astro to replace the BFH where ever possible. I wore out shoulder driving in and out truck Budd studs. You guys are young, listen up.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to bring us this content. It’s really neat my service vehicle is a 06 town car loaded down with enough tools to do just about any car truck or semi obviously I quit my job recently and went out on my own. Still tryna break into heavy equipment I do alot of dump trucks and semi trucks but but I’m just tryna save up for a legit truck like richards or cams truck can’t wait to get one. I’ll send y’all a pic when I finally get one a before and after I think you’ll get a good laugh at how I’ve managed to gut my Lincoln and turn it into a service vehicle all my customers are in shock and awe when they see how I gutted it and extended the deep ass trunk even made use of the roof lol 😂

Pencil grinder. I use for bolts corroded in Aluminum. Forget ez outs. Used pencil grinder to remove ECM harness securing bolt which thread insert spun in ECM aluminum housing. Broken taps can be removed with pencil grinder. They are very important for service truck.
@billcovert3473
@billcovert3473 2 жыл бұрын
Last night I used pencil grinder on road call where driver didn't secure excavator pieces on flatbed. One fell off landed on drive line ujoint retained bolt, wiping bolt into yoke. Used the pencil grinder to remove bolt material wiped into yoke to allow bolt to be free to unwind, then used grinder to flatten out and counter sink center of jagged bolt center so as to drill and use RBRT extractor. Cam is right on as to pencil grinder in service truck!

@billcovert3473
@billcovert3473 2 жыл бұрын
@@GeanGreyLovesWang I tried the Knipicks ones, like these of Richards you need a straight line shot for them to work. I gotten to use vise grips for truck heater hoses. The Paccar trucks use some plastic heater hose fittings which break in the block. The fittings in the back of the block are 'braille' only, you can only feel them, so the cool thing is use a small vise grip, compress the clamp, slide clamp up the hose, install hose on fitting, position clamp, then release vise grip, a easy one hand job.

Running a 5 ton single axle service truck is the only way to go. Running an F550 size truck you're right at max gvw all the time or pretty close to it. Some of the local HDs have gone to 5 ton trucks. I've heard of Richard from somewhere I think he's worked for Rent n Rave Todd.

@@ClaytonHartin You guys must pack a lot of tools if your trucks are grossing 33-35,000lbs.

The cable style spring clamp tool is awesome, IF you buy the expensive one, the style that uses a quick clamp style grip. Tough to explain the style I mean, but I have it and it is fantastic. The cheap, plier looking ones ARE garbage..
