Fun fact: the Hellenic (Greek) national anthem "Ode to Freedom" is actually the longest national anthem In the whole world (the actual poem) , this is just the part chosen for the national anthem. And it's the only national anthem dedicated to freedom.

ARISTOTLE WAS GREEK. Way before Roman anything. Etymology of his name: Aristos = Optimal Best and Tele which means end or more apt infinite, from a far or by far. Meaning he was the optimal best to the infinite. Infact telephone ☎ and television 📺 are 2 more words that use tele as a prefix in these 2 cases. Tele and phone both being Greek words meaning a voice from afar. Tele (Greek for from afar / beyond) and vision (Latin and then Anglo-Saxon) and you know what that means. Teleios is another form/ conjugation of the word describing something that is perfect / exemplary. And it is hymn to FREEDOM (ελευθερια means freedom meaning freedom or death).

As usual in Greek texts, also in the national anthem there is a universal view on the concept of Freedom. It is obtained by the power of arms, by violence and by sacrifices, and it applies to every people who fought for their Freedom. Divine Greece, long live Hellas.

Our national anthem is part of the poem written by Dionysios Solomos in Zakynthos in 1823 entitled Hymn to Freedom and set to music by Nikolaos Mantzaros. The entire poem ofDionysios Solomos consists of 158 quatrains (or 632 verses). But of these, only the first 24 were established as the national anthem of our country in 1865. Finally, the first two prevailed and are the ones that echo and accompany the raising and lowering of the flag and are sung in official moments and ceremonies: From November 18, 1966, the Greek national anthem was established as the national anthem of the Republic of Cyprus as well.

Lyrics Word for word: (might not make 100% sense to people as these are verses of a poem to Liberty) Se gnorizo apo tin kopsi - I know you from the sharpness tou spathiou tin tromeri - of the sword, the formidable/terrible Se gnorizo apo tin opsi - I know you from the sight Pou me via metraei tin gi - that with force measures the earth Ap'ta kokkala vgalmeni - From the bones taken Ton Ellinon, ta Iera - of the Greeks, the Holy 3x Kai san prota andreiomenoi - And like in the beginning being brave Haire o Haire Lefteria - Hail oh Hail Liberty Free translation: I recognise you from the formidable sharpness of your sword I recognise you from your eyes (sight) as you measure with haste and force the ground around you You are brought up (coming from) the holy bones of the Greeks (i.e. the Greeks that died valiantly in battle for Greece) And like in the beginning (ancient times) being brave, we Salute you oh Liberty (this is a hymn to Liberty, the poet imagines her as a woman (Eleftheria - Liberty is a feminine word) walking about a battle field, yielding a sword and measuring up the ground around her with haste because she intends on fighting the enemy there)

The translation you read wasn't very good. From wiki: I know you from the blade Of the sword, the terrifying [blade], I know you from the appearance, Which, with force, measures the earth. From the bones taken out, the sacred (bones) of Greeks And as first brave again, Rejoice, oh rejoice, liberty!

No country sings their anthem with the passion of Greeks , its really something to experience in person. You are a Hellene ❤. Please contact your uncle he will love to hear from you . Perhaps set you up with a Greek wife. My parents and grandparents were in shipping too. Im from Crete is really is the best place for food. It appears you have the ice blue Cretan eyes too. Also remember in Greece we say God Nation and family .

Let me say this as a Greek. Some parts could have been translated differently, BUT, I get it in a sense of the message passed towards a different culture, so I'm gonna let it pass, because most of it, it passes the message about freedom and independance and the unity our ancestors have had passed to us. Good job man. I really enjoied the video :)
