Gary Holton sung the theme to kids television programme 'Murphys Mob' you may remember. Great song as well.

I adore that first album. I think it's brilliant start to finish. And I have often asked myself why so few people seem to know about these guys. I loved your explanation. I figured the name might have done it. In my case, I am a 31-year-old American, so this is obviously a band before my time that certainly never had an impact in my country. However, I am a massive fan of rock music from the 60s and 70s, and I have always adored the British stuff. I discovered the first album in the collection of another American who came of age in the 70s and was closely following the UK music scene. He had a US promo copy of the album (he also had a US promo copy of the first album by Silverhead, whom you also mention - this guy had everything). The name of the band caught my attention, and I expected them to be some kind of missing link in the evolution of metal. Obviously, they were not, but I loved what I heard. I love all that UK glam stuff, so it was perfect for me. I have since got my own copy of the first album. It was an unsold US copy that was still sealed (no one bought it here, so there are plenty out there). I also have a US promo copy of the second album, although I need to give that one another chance. It has yet to grab me like the first. Bottom line, we need to keep spreading the word on these guys, as I think there a lot of people who don't like these albums simply because they aren't aware of them! We just need to explain the name to manage their expectations, haha.

Thank you for this tribute to an amazing band. They were the world I lived in during the 70s when my band Shady Lady played the London pub rock scene. A world now lost and gone. Pre punk, very raw rock, very theatrical and such fun! Saw HMK a few times in London. Happy days.xx

I saw them so many times in London in the 70s. They were an amazing live band and Gary Holton the best front man I've ever seen. Proud to say I'm friends with the band now and they are still brilliant

Sad that Gary Holton didn't take the opportunity to join AC/DC after Bon Scott died.

Hi Phil, a really good overview. I always knew of this band but never got round to listening to them. I remember seeing them on Whistle Test and did get an Alex Harvey vibe. Also I recall in 74 an advert for the debut being run a few times on Capital Radio. Based on what I've learned here I will definitely be checking out this set.

A great review. I learned a lot! My main recollection was that Gary Holton became an actor and played Wayne in Auf Wiedersehen Pet. I loved that show! Never really knew their music, although I was aware they had an underground reputation for being a great band. Another one for the ever-growing wish list! I need to win the Lotto! 🤪.

Hi Andy, thank you for watching. I am really enjoying this. Each album is different and they should have been a much bigger band. I am sure the name out a lot of people off. Phil

Excellent review, Phil. I'm actually unfamiliar with the music. Like you, probably because of the name, I ignored the Heavy Metal Kids completely back in the 70s. But this box set looks fantastic.

Thanks for the review, Phil. I expected them to be a heavy metal band. Then again, by the late 70s when I really started listening to FM radio, the term "heavy metal" had already taken on the meaning it has today. I do like Mott the Hoople, so this looks like an interesting band. I'm not at all familiar with Silverhead either. This is the first time I've heard of them. I only know Michael Debarres because he is married to a groupie whose book I read.

Sad people didn't like Heavy Metal Kids b/c they were not Metal. In Canada we had a band called "Barenaked Ladies" who were all male & not naked. I'm sure some dudes walked out on their shows for that reason. LOL

I've tried a few times to get in to these but his vocal style just grates on my ears. Which is remarkable when you think that my fav music is Thrash Metal. I can't stand the Small Faces either. It must be the 'Mockney'. Good job Ozzy never sang in his brummy accent.... Silverhead, i have no problem at all with.

Hi Neil, thank you for watching. I fully understand, I had issues with Nazareth and Guns n Roses for similar reasons. I eventually got Nazareth but not really GnR - Phil :)

Interesting band. While their are certainly similarities with Silverhead, I feel that Silverhead is the superior band in many ways and had more potential to be bigger had they continued on.
