@@OneTrashyPanda all season tires and winter tires are 2 completely different things. You want another set of dedicated winter tires on rims for when the temperature drops below freezing. All seasons are usually rated for at least 5degrees Celsius past freezing. I live directly in the snow belt in Canada and it's not uncommon for us to see drifts 2-3ft. I have taken a Subaru outback through all of that and even drove on my lake using the boat launch. They make such a difference that some provinces like Quebec require them and most insurance companies here give you a discount if you run them in the winter. Set of Michelin Ice X tires could have made a big difference here

As a teenager, a bunch of us kids piled into the back of our friends pick-up and trekked up Bountiful Canyon. I remember him going too fast especially around corners. He was driving carelessly & recklessly & had us all terrified. We pleaded for him to slow down but he wouldn't. Then as we were going around dead mans curve & one of the trucks rear tires went off road & gravity began to take the rear of the truck over the cliff and we almost went down. This was in the late 80's. I remember seeing wrecked vehicles at the bottom that had been down there for years. It was the most terrifying experience of my life. I believe there was a divine intervention that day.

As someone who used to sell insurance there is two major things I can tell you. One it is assumed that anything the person selling you the policy knows the underwriters know as well. Two it is important to inform your insurance company of any material change in how you use your vehicle as that can affect coverage. (IE most auto policies I've seen in my province for the average client exclude using your vehicle for commercial purposes. (IE doing Uber, Skip The Dishes, DoorDash etc) if you start using your car for work purposes beyond just driving to and from work and you get into and accident your policy can be voided for not informing them of the material change.)

I'm insured through Erie, and have been my entire driving career. Only needed it once and they were a whole lot less painful than the back strain I got in the single-car no fault accident. Single car no fault? Yeah, found a diesel slick on a rainy interstate. Almost saved it, did about a hundred yards holding the car at a 30 degree skid and then didn't. Nose inside, around, and then some off-roading 'cause it was a construction zone with no shoulder and a 5 foot drop. Collision shop said every single place the suspension attached to the chassis was bent, but after I landed the car was still dragging itself along in fifth gear, chugging at walking speed. Don't ever let anyone tell you a Daewoo Leganza wasn't a tough little car. As I was telling the responding officer what happened and where the hazard was, a jeep cherokee did almost exactly the same thing, but into the side of a commercial truck. I had some company on the ride to the tow yard....

They are pretty good, but they were a little bit quick to total my truck for cosmetic damage when I got sideswiped in a gas station in Aug/Sept 2003. (The stated repairs were only going to be a little over $1K their stated value of the vehicle; made me mad. When you're dealing with the kinds of numbers insurers do, that's just pocket change!) It was quite a hassle dealing with CA DMV to get a salvage title, as the truck still runs fine; no damage to any parts involving safety or operation. However, it can now only be insured for liability going forward, and not comprehensive insurance! 😞

Since you guys were asking about insurance: I have a full coverage Insurance here on my Tesla Model 3 in Germany. I pay around 1.500 Dollars a year for it, which isnt cheap. I have to cover up about 1050 Dollars if something happens of my own pocket. The rest is up to the insurance. No matter what. BUT: I touched a curb quite hardly with the front axle and my steering was off. Almost everything on the fron axle including the shock will be changed. Around 7 k Dollars to repair this damn thing (without the rims or the tire included. Those will come new, too). Thing is, the time till the parts will arrive to the shop is approx. 2-3 weeks and my insurance covers up to 2 weeks of a rental car. (A Q8 E-Tron... cant complain about that). But from friday on, i will be without a car because of this. Unbelievable. I dont blame my insurance "Itzehoer" but Tesla for monumentally ill part ordering times. Its a M3 Long Range facelift. So, that said: If i would own a beamer, Audi Merc or whatever, the parts would be there after 1-3 days max. Meh...

I have Farmers and they have been pretty good ... 2 cars totaled in an ice storm by falling trees and I was taken care of. Had Progressive in the past and they were also very good for a custom car that was very damaged, they accepted invoices for custom work and factored that in to my payment. Also have Hagerty who are great for strange or classic cars.

I been with American Family for 38 years. Never had any problems at all until a few year ago when my daughter's boy friend stole my brand new Ram truck. He was drunk and had a teenager in the truck with him. He rolled the truck down a big hill, he takes off running and the kid was hurt real bad. The kid's parents of course sued my insurance company and my truck was impounded for over a year. My insurance could not pay out on my truck until it was out of impound. That could not happen until the boyfriend was sentenced in court, then I had to go to court to be able to get it out of impound. $20,000 impound fees were racked up that of course my responsibility to pay. So in the end, I was out a brand new Ram and had to buy a little Jeep Patroit. My insurance company was going to drop me because of being sued, even though I accepted the fact of my insurance went to high risk costs. But when they were going to drop me and no other company would take me, I had no choice but to take my insurance company to court. Oh the judge looked at all the facts and driving record, needless to say I was able to stay with them, got a huge huge huge refund for all the high risk I paid, and they were put on notice that accidents do happen and if by some chance I have an accident and they try dropping me again then it won't just be state court systems but they will end up in federal court. All in all, it does pay off in the end to know your rights even with big companies. But it sure has been one HUGE nightmare to go through.

I worked as a Tow dispatcher for insurance companies. First off most tow companies will charge an arm and a leg if it's so far off a roadway! Insurance companies generally won't cover these because it's considered off roading and that is not covered, the damge nor the tow is covered under insurance! If the veh. Is on your property and an approved vehicle for the situation alot of homeowners insurance companies will cover it. I don't know of an insurance company that covers off roading.

We have kemper, we had an accident in a car of ours, they totalled it, it took a year for them to cut a check! If we hadnt had so much support from friends and family we would have been in a really bad place woth no vehicle while waiting for insurance to get thier isht together. This was during the pandemic so I understand some delay, but a YEAR is a bit much.

My wife and I are in Canada and use Wawanesa. Our house and one car were destroyed this past year. We were treated really well and compensated fairly. There were moments that I wasn’t very impressed but they were usually in regards to the performance of a subcontracted company. Overall I would highly suggest them.

I work for State Farm. Best advice i could give is make sure you have good coverage. Sometimes paying for the state require basic coverage isnt enough. Most dont think about their insurance till they need it. Only then do you find out by being cheap...youve screwed yourself. Pray you dont find yourself at fault in an accident with an expensive car and your coverage sucks. Your insurance company will only cover what you pay for. So if youve only got $25k coverage...thats all you get. You smash into any newer vehicle worth more than that 25k...guess whos paying the difference! Get better coverage. Pay the higher premium. Itll save your ass if you ever need it. Just sayin. PS. If you don't already have uninsured or under insured coverage. GET iT!

Yeah. Having good insurance is paramount. Although I wasn't at fault for this one, I will mention that I totaled my 2018 Hyundai Elantra the Saturday after Thanksgiving 2022. It needed a new trunk lid, trunk floor, new bumper, new backup camera, and new backup sensors and some other misc work to it, maybe some rear end suspension parts and labor, and paint/body work . I purchased the car for $14k OTD new (definitely can't do that today). After parts and labor, the total came out to well over $14k, which is why the car was totaled, even though it was clearly fixable and I was driving the car up till the day I took it to the shop and the guy told me it would cost more to fix the car than I purchased it for. That was a sad day because I loved that Hyundai.
