Thanks for very helpful video . ANYTHING which brings attention to greasing is good .I was once asked to operate a machine nights ( Plowing snow ) at a very big company . I thought the very nice machine needed grease . I bought a grease gun , proper grease and some rags with my own money . Service Mgr. found out , I was called to a boardroom with highly paid " men in suites " . About 2000 employees . Ser. Mgr announced he NEVER encountered such care, they gave me a raise , and the CEO advised -- " He'd NEVER forget this " . There's nothing wrong with what's right . Johnnie C. Nova Scotia

I use a 2 L bottle of water that screws onto my battery powered pressure washer I spray off all my Zierdt fittings after each use so that they’re clean and dry the following day. Works great. Turning the house was a great tip. Thanks.

very well done, thanks for taking the time and effort. One small tip is to unscrew the top off gun before pulling the handle back. For some guns pulling back first puts air in the system and makes it a little more trouble to get new tube working. Not a big deal and often doesn't matter, but like you say when your doing it a lot of little things like cleaning and being organized help greatly.. Thanks again good job!

Sometimes you get an airlock after changing a cartridge. You can fix this by initially winding the pump on a couple of threads and letting the follower go: then when you wind it right down, it fills the void and primes the pump😜👍😎

Putting shop paper towels over the fittings after greasing helps to keep out grime and gump sounds like extra work but works from grime and gump and cleaning

only grease the turn table every 1000 hours not everyday, depends on the size of machine for quantity

just a couple pumps every couple weeks, otherwise you blow the huge, expensive and difficult to replace seal.

So I might be late to this, but don't you have like automated greasing systems in the US? Over here in Europe most of the larger excavators have automatic greasing systems, it's just a thing for reliability and operator safety as well
@HeavyMetalLearning
@HeavyMetalLearning 4 жыл бұрын
A lot of the larger machines have those systems, but I don't think they are as common here as over in Europe (probably some day)
@northmanlogging2769
@northmanlogging2769 4 жыл бұрын
they are available, but expensive, both to install and to maintain, labor is cheap here, besides is shouldn't take 3 hours to grease a machine...

@@lifebeginsat190 12k!?!?!? oley ole fawk, that would be the equivalent of 240 days of greasing every morning... notably the same amount of time to warm the machine up before beginning work... what a racket

@@HeavyMetalLearning Europe is small, it varies in climate far less than other parts of the world. The needs in Alaska are VERY different than the needs in Hawaii or in California. We grease different amounts based on different conditions. Personally, in swamp conditions I want to see water forced out of the bushings to know when it's had enough grease. In other cases there's desert sand or in 50 below 0 temps of Alaska where I was born, we have trouble getting grease to pump at all. Perhaps this is part of why it's less common here on USA models.

Having learnt things the hard way, I can tell you that not greasing will firstly cause your boom/stick cylinder ram to seize with the pin immediately snapping the pin lock, (ie thick bolt). You generally won’t know this has happened until the pin falls out and you lose control of your stick as it swings aimlessly in the breeze. Due to a dodgy Nipple/zirc. This has happened to me 3 times now. JCB JS 240 Ps, I find that undoing the zerk and screwing grease gun directly allows me to use both hands to pump, and I can use maximum force to blow out any bits of dirt in the line.

You will blow the seal out if you’re greasing the swing bearing every time you grease the machine , every 250 or 500 hours only ... it says this right in the manual and should be common knowledge

The seal is good for 500 psi, the grease gun puts down 7,000-15,000 psi, I'd expect it's "blown out" every time you grease it would it not be? I've noted the actual bearing companies who make the turn table bearings mention nothing about over greasing and specifically say to grease it until you see it purge. So while I hear this said, I have a hard time buying into that theory. Though perhaps forcing grease by it all the time is the culprit but it isn't like a one time situation where it "blows out" and is thus ruined. I think most would agree with this.

this dude spends as much time cleaning one zerk as it takes me to grease my entire machine... If its jammed full of rocks ya clean em out, otherwise its usually just grease in there, also there is zero need to pump grease in until you see grease come out, if the machine is greased daily, as it should be a few pumps of fresh grease is all you really need, there should be enough in there already all you need to do is keep it topped off, now if its been sitting awhile and or its washed out from rain/mud/sand then yes put a bunch in, otherwise your just wasting it and making a bigger mess 3 tubes of grease on one machine... seriously?

Bucket pins should be greased everyday.. dirt and dust will build up quicker there cause that is getting most contact in the dirt.. you don’t need to clean grease fittings like he did😂 it’s just more grease where the zerk is. If there’s dirt yes clean it out but not like he did, you don’t have to wipe grease either shits gonna get dirt and messy THE TURN TABLE you don’t have to turn it!! Make sure you don’t over grease your turn table bc that will blow your bearing out

@grayguy19 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah did heavy maintenance on over 50 scrapers a day sometimes. I used a nail to clean out around the zerk. Wipe the tip and pump er up. Definitely recommend following the grease intervals that the equipment recommends. Once you blow out a dust seal you have to grease every time you run it.

Thank you for getting wet for us. I've got a three-tone Kubota Excavator. I asked technicians how often I need to grease, and they told me to do it every time I ran out of gas, and I'm ready to feel the tank. Could you please comment on it? And the last thing, did you say alcohol is best for cleaning greasy excess? Thank you, and I hope you are vaccinated by now.
