Definitely good content when you include the haul too Steve. (I still wouldn't like driving in London!) Dust carts: Back in the 1970s I remember reading an advert for Allison Transmission in Truck Magazine. They reckoned that dust carts were one of the most testing vehicles for transmissions due to the many stops, starts and gear changes.

Hi Steve. Glad to see you back🙂. As you pull out, the van not letting you out. He's not exactly observant or he would have seen the time limit on the bus lane, and save him holding you up as he shoves his way in. I sometimes find that following large vehicles will get you through places quicker🤣. I remember my husband (way before I met him), after his 9 years in the Army, came out in 1969, and got a job in Manchester. Before starting, he did six months with Securicor doing M/cr to London. He told me that he hated driving through London. I can now understand. Although my step-daughter's daughter, who have lived in Staines for years, drives like the idiots, and she thinks its normal🙄. Makes me wonder about the emergency services, whether they use their blues&twos just to get them from A to B that much quicker. Anyway, Steve, a great video and very interesting and a great bit of driving, if I do say so myself🤣. I certainly will not drive into London, ever!!

Good to see you back Steve. Some really shocking driving in London. No consideration. Kudos to you for your patience, nobody else seems to have any! I think a few bad words may have come out if it were me! I wouldn't want to live and drive in a place like London. I live near Carlisle and you think it's busy with a few cars sat for 5 mins very occasionally - different world down there. An automatic would certainly be necessary if you were doing that every day. Thanks for sharing.

Another insight into the life of a heavy goods recovery driver. This is keeping me from being bored while recovering from Covid. A couple of questions for you Steve. Why is your truck manual and not automatic and why do you only remove one drive shaft? Looking forward to the next videos 😊 Rich
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve 10 ай бұрын
Hi Richard , truck was already in stock at bodybuilders so didn't get option on gearbox. By removing the half shaft you our protection the gearbox by removing the drive from the rear wheels via the prop shaft to gearbox . Something we have to do on all commercial vehicles we recover when drive wheels our in contact with the road.

Really enjoyed the video. Just a quick question, why do you not like having your beacons (lights) on if possible? You say for cover? :)
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve 10 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for watching , we dont need to run with beacons on if we can keep up with the flow of traffic and not causing a hazard to other drivers. We use them as warning to others on busy narrow roads or maybe pulling across junctions , at night they can dazzle others and take the eye focus off turning and braking lights on truck.

Great job Steve. How do you get the vehicle your towing so central to yours, unbelievable skill i believe to have it follow you so direct.

Thanks for watching James , just try and reverse using dustcart mirrors as guide really , try to get central otherwise if will effect your road positioning.

G’day from Brisbane Queensland Australia, love your Vlogs on towing around London , what horrible roads you have in London. They are more like the suburban road that you would find out the front your house. Those speed up and down calming devices as part of the road speed control. Here in Australia are known as Wombats, be auseinander if you were to hit a wombat the vehicle would come off second best. All the best

steve have you ever tried a plumbers bung to stop the oil escaping from the axel
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve 10 ай бұрын
Hi Simon never tried that , normally have half shaft cover to fit mate , you only tend to loose oil out of axles with roller bearings , you dont normally see much of the oil on normal axles when you remove the blue roll.

Just wondering do you lock the cab up for security while you’re working on the tow? Or is it not possible because the keys are in the ignition? I was thinking it could be dangerous if somebody got into the cab while you’re working.
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve
@HeavyRecoverywithSteve 10 ай бұрын
Hi Thanks for watching , you need keys in ignition and engine running to operate underlift , but have spare key to lock cab door when outside working if needed.
