Payton knew that in his last few years we missed on so many draft picks, traded away draft picks for those misses, we’re not in a position to acquire talent via free agency and he saw the inevitable. Whoever stepped into his role was going to have one of the worst jobs in the NFL. 3 losing seasons will justify firing DA. we have injuries and have key players out ..mostly one OFFENSE...rookie QB, decimated OL, Olave, Shaheed, Taysom...but why in the hell is the Defense affected? That's supposed to be DA's call to fame. Can't get a third down stop to save our lives to get the ball back. Two week in a row our Defense played like crap. It's been YEARS since I've seen back to back games that bad. They look as bad as they did when Shitka was the coach...no drive, no will...they made Nix and Payton look like Brady and Belichick! Personally, on top of all the other changes that are OBVIOUSLY overdue, the Saints need to put the Lombardi era away and stop acting like it's 2009 all over again! Drew Brees certainly deserves his flowers and as long as there's a Superdome, he will...but I thought it was bad juju to have that particular ceremony. They should've at least done a video montage tribute for Payton because he definitely earned it, regardless of how the break up went at the end. It's almost fitting that Payton came back and put a fork in the Saints season because that loss last night has laid it out for all to see...this is a decimated team playing under a bad salary cap situation that prevents quick upgrades, with a management team that all of sudden (?) looks clueless and oblivious to the dumpster fire they're in charge of!! I'm not sure that Jake would have been any better to be honest. When Jake played late in the fourth, it was what most people refer to as garbage time. The defense for the Broncos wasn't going full speed and they may have even pulled some starters because the game was out of reach for us at that point. I'm not sure Jake would have fared any better had he started the game in my opinion.
