Thank you so much for this magnificent video, dear Beth & Andrew! So many interesting stories and hilarious comedy sketches (one should imagine all the work behind it!). I loved how Naomi nodded when you told her - in Hebrew :) - that she must not go up the ladder. Lots of Love and Blessings to you all.🙏💖

So in the second half of the if.., then clause can be used both the imperfect and the perfect form with vav consecutive.
@AlephwithBeth4 ай бұрын
It's usually imperfect for the "if ..." clause, and the וקטל form, or an imperative for the "then ..." clause.
@johnsnow4994 ай бұрын
@@AlephwithBeth I have noticed that in Jdg. 4:8 in the same context both forms are used (yiqtol and weqatal) So I guess they are interchangeable. I'm still trying to understand how the past conditional was expressed in the ancient Hebrew. I know it was somehow awkward to render it, that probably caused a lot of inexact translations into English and they managed to amend it in the modern Hebrew.

Yes, the thing is that you can't negate the vayyiqtol or the veqatal forms, so when you need to make them negative, you need to switch to לא + qatal instead of vayyiqtol, or לא + yiqtol instead of veqatal, as in the last clause in Judges 4:8. You might also have a jussive/yaqtel form as a softer version of the imperative, such as in the Esther passage in this video.

Is there any way to purchase all of your videos in a set? I want to print out all of your videos on DVD in case they are ever removed from KZbin for whatever reason!

Hi Beth. It is good that you’re exposing Naomi to Hebrew. What languages do you know (besides English, Hebrew, and Spanish)?
