I don't think learning a language is practical without also hearing it used in dialogue. These videos fill that niche like nothing else available. The humor keeps it fun and ones state of mind is important while learning.

The other one is אָנֹכִי , which means the same thing. There may be some stylistic reasons why one or the other gets used, and it also looks like אנכי becomes less common in later books (like in Ezra).

In Hebrew, the verb 'to be' is ommited in the present tense. It is used in the past and future tenses, though. Thus, I am/was/will be a man: present: ani ish past: ani hayiti ish future: ani ehye ish

These videos are great! I feel like I'm learning so much! תודה רבה!! Just a quick question about pronunciation... Are you and your husband native born Israelis? Is this a modern pronunciation? I hope the first question isn't too personal, just my own curiosity as I'd like to learn Modern Hebrew once I know Biblical Hebrew well.
@AlephwithBeth
@AlephwithBeth 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you're enjoying learning! We are not Israelis, we're both from the U.S. and English is our mother tongue. In fact, we don't speak Modern Hebrew. The pronunciation we use is a Sephardic one often used for reading the Hebrew Bible, and it has a lot of similarities to Modern Hebrew with a few differences. Shouldn't be a difficult cross-over between the two though.

I'm an Israeli and a native Hebrew speaker. Alef and Beth's pronunciation is somewhat different to spoken modern Hebrew, but it is 100% understandable and, to me, sounds even "better" than modern spoken Hebrew, if that makes sense. Some radio announcers used to speak like that forty or fifty years ago. However, even they don't anymore.

Is there any meaningful differences between anochi & ani for I/me, and betwen hen & henah for they/them (fem), or are they both just sets of synonyms?

I have noticed that the words voiced in these lessons are not the same as what the Hebrew Scriptures record. Is this modern Hebrew? As in the Hebrew Scriptures, the word for bullock or cow is shor. The word for sheep is tso"n, this can also be used for flock. Please advise. Thank you! O and one more thing I am enjoying your videos and thank you!
@AlephwithBeth
@AlephwithBeth 2 жыл бұрын
It is Biblical Hebrew. There are additional vocabulary words in the Hebrew Bible that we haven't taught yet, such as shor, but all the words in these lessons do appear in the Hebrew Bible. Happy Hebrew learning!
