Literally "came/coming in the days," but that obviously doesn't make sense in English. It's often translated "coming along in years" or "well advanced in years."

Why is "ish" in the singular although we're talking about 50 men? Why isn't it "anashim"?

For numbers over 10, Hebrew often uses the singular form of the noun with the number. Just a Hebrew thing.
