Create a project for HEC-HMS using HEC GEO HMS AND ARC HYDRO TOOL IN ARCGIS.
DATA AND MODEL PREPARATION IN ARCGIS USING ARC HYDRO TOOL AND HEC GEO HMS
This is a tutorial on arc hydro tool and Hec Geo Hms.
A project with extension ".hms" is created.
It creates-
Basin
Subbasin
Calculates area
Longest flow path
Slope of river
slope of basin
centroid of basin
shape length
catchment
adjoint catchment
drainage line and drainage point
merge basins

outlet
If you get error in river slope then follow these steps:
1. go to geoprocessing menu of ArcGis
2. then go to geoprocessing option
3. uncheck the box below background processing i.e. just before enable

When using the option stream definition, You have to input the threshold value for the area. But for some reason, I cannot put any value. It always shows put a number lower than the largest basin area. And I am sure my DEM file has basins area up to 200 km square. How do I procced?

Are you refering to "merging subbasins"? If yes, then later version may require more input. So, you may switch to version of arcgis and hec geo hms 10.2 (as in the video) for simplicity.

Thanks for the video. I was doing a project on my on and the data I was trying to add failed to be literally seen in the folder I had saved it on. I was wondering if you could be knowing the reason for that.

Which data? Did you use filter all files ( *.*) to search the data? If it is GIS data you are talking about then maybe the data is saved in default location which may be c drive in case you didn't change the save location.

@@JustLearnCivil It's a DEM with file extensions of .adf and .XML......the data was on a flash then but I couldn't see it, so I eventually put it in one of my pc drives..but it wasn't the "c" drive. Are you saying that if I change the location of the files to the c drive then I may see it?

Open ArcGIS. Click ob add data then navigate to the location where you have saved the DEM. You will see a raster DEM of the same filename. Cilck on it and add it. The DEM will appear under ARCGIS layer. However, when you navigate to the folder in windows explorer, you may not see it. But through ARCGIS, you will be able to add the file.

While dissolving, try using adjacent polygons. This tutorial has been made in verson 10.2. In some other verson, you may require to give more inputs apart from selecting the adjacent polygons where the same stream line gets divided.

WGS-84 is geographical coordinate system. so, project your map in the projection system used in your location. My location uses MUTM (specific to my region). But you can use UTM by knowing in which zone your map lies.

Download DEM from online resource of your study area and clip it according to your catchment and use it. I'm not sure about DTM.

Download DEM from USGS website. You will get data of whole world there. Download the grids of karnali basin by specifying latitude and longitude.

First you must know outlet of basin which is a hydrological station of DHM and using the coordinate of this point delineate catchment from your downloaded DEM. Remember that you cannot download DEM of exaxtly Karnali or other basin. You will get rectangular sheet so you may need to download more than one sheet and merge it in GIS software. Once you delineat catchment, convert it into Polygo which represents boundary of your basin.

@@moteherogameYou mentioned having only three rows in subbasin parameters from Raster. How many rows appears depend on what options you selected in "Select HMS Processes". Select appropriate option in that step (Parameters - Select HMS Processes) like SCS for initial loss, etc. Then you should see the option to input SCS.

For one catchment, you'll have only one outlet. If you need multiple outlet for multiple catchment, it may work but you can't have multiple outlet point for one catchment. However, you'll have outlet point at each subbasin outlet.

Try putting Batch point for creating watershed as near to outlet as possible. Delete any such points, if such points are already created.

I'm not sure about this error. This may be due to missing data or data location in different drive, etc. Try starting new project in ArcGis and proceed again. There shouldn't be any space in the file path you import in ArcGis. Use ArgGis 10.2 and also install Arc Hydro Tool for 10.2, HEC GEO HMS 10.2. Let me know if it's solved !!!
