M1S Tips (Including Starvy MTTT)

TL;DW It shows small things that many of you will have already been doing. I also show a slightly adjusted version of MTTT for raining cats.This shouldn't have an impact on what PF is doing, but might be useful for statics. Thank you to commenters who helped recommend these as tips to showcase. A big shout out to DiaStarvy for showing what will be my go-to way of doing raining cats from this point onwards.

This raining cats setup looks far better than what ive seen in PF. Very often I see people scattered, tripping over the tethers trying to figure out where their group is.

I'm a big fan. From after the first tether, if tanks are tight near the middle, it's basically impossible to mess up the near/far baits.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GUIDES, they were instrumental for helping my static clear the endwalker raids, and now dawntrail! It's also incredibly helpful how you explain the mechanics thoroughly, so we can adjust to party finder strats as needed. I imagine these take a lot of time, effort, and work to make. As a MT for mouser, I always just stick to the 2 north squares and keep track of which tile will break and dodge accordingly. A lot less movement and less to worry about. No need to even move towards the group. Plenty of time between each slash that breaks tiles.

that works for me most of the time but sometimes there is a pattern where she will hit the left square followed immediately by the right square, it is possible to dodge but the timing is tight enough that i have been hit a few times and have given up and just gone south with everyone else, at least when that pattern shows

It's literally the same too, you're standing in the same direction relative to the boss.

The few times I did MT on that fight I ended doing just that and it worked out pretty well, dodges were easy enough and I jsut didnt need to move from where I needed to be

Reclears were rough today, hoping people can actually stick to a Raining Cats strat with this video. Thanks so much! Also my Mouser strat is literally just "look at the square I'm standing on, if it flashes after the initial flash stay on the SE square, if it doesn't go back to that square or to NW".

I suggested the clone spot waymarks to my party after we wiped a few times to double clones back in week 1 and it honestly made positioning for it so much easier, thank you for making future party finder runs infinitely better to work around on that mechanic

In my groups people always forget the MTTT since it comes at the end of the encounter so despite people standing still, melees usually dont grab the tethers. Then parties dont stack together and just kind of die alone at the sides after second hit. This is far easier to remember and execute and will definitely help reclears.

Also don't underestimate the raidwide AoE, I just had 4 people die to the first raidwide because nobody mitigated it properly, presumably we all thought "it's just M1S and we're several weeks in, what could possibly go wrong!"

1:00 MTs beware as jumping over a platform while its being destroyed can sometimes snag your character down for a long tumble. Black Cat doesn't move until a bit after all the other platforms are destroyed, so do not be too eager to jump immediately if you 4-3-4 dodged by mistake.

This way of doing raining cats may be best for pf. I noticed too many times groups don't know how to bait the close/far aoe, so now it'll be simpler for them.

There are some custom strats coming out now, which increase uptime for all and allow easier dps positionals, and with pots, even on week1 you could skip this mech entirely. One of which reduces movement after the clones that swipe the arena. Instead of scrambling for set markers. You have it g1 slide left, g2 just slide right. Groups hug the boss. Pairs have melee on the boss. Ranges just take a couple steps back to the left and right respectivly. It saves needing to use movement tools for casters especially if your a short hop from your weymark.

BTW I'm not sure if you mentioned this in the original guide. During clones if you have clones go to the same side. You can keep the boss and quad and just do the swipe mechanic from there so the tank doesn't have to move the boss. I, Regal found that out on my own.

On my first clear of M1 our tank insisted we had to use a strat where everyone stacks C for the whole mech, of course we wiped pull after pull and everyone was frustrated because it obviously can't work until the other healer said they'd only do one more pull if we did it the regular MTTT way and we cleared first try. Seeing this though it makes me wonder if that tank had just misunderstood this strat and didn't know that tanks shouldn't also be on C the whole time lmao

if one of the tanks gets targeted with a tether initially it can cause confusion. because the melees need to know who is keeping the one tether they already have, and who is swinging around and grabbing the tank tether. I guess whichever melee is missing a tether when they fan out would get the tank's.

isn't it funny that a 4-3-4 or 4-3-2 dodge thing is required for majority of people to make brain function easier? But its actually a lot easier if the logic is just "use eyes and count, then stay or move back". And when the markers aren't consistent, people blame the guide instead LOL

A good solution is to start off as if you're doing mario kart (everyone stacked north) and then just dodge down towards mid/south. baiting the first few north keeps a majority of the arena clear, and it's significantly less movement than mario kart. it also makes sure that people don't just brain off and run around the edge of the arena like they often do in MK which results in them being out of position and baiting arrows ahead of the group. i've been doing this (calling it N->yolo) on PF for reclears since last week and it's worked phenomenally.

Would it be better to have the tanks stack close S instead? It'd make passing tethers more consistent since melees will be moving S to stack with the group after the first cleave, which would naturally pass the tethers to both tanks

I actually tried this. Tanks stacking south in the hitbox made it more likely for them to get clipped by either being too near the tether cleaves or too near the far stack. Having them stack north basically eliminated that risk.

I absolutely cannot stand this raining cats mech. I die literally like 98% of the time from the first tether hit and I have no clue why. I dont think Ive got a single clean m1s parse yet, all because of this stupid mechanic. Im standing directly on the hitbox on whichever side Im assigned to. Usually both us melees die but this last run I just did had a mch doing pseudo-melee and he lived through it, I didnt, so I have no clue what is going wrong that is causing me all these deaths. I feel like Im handling the mech correctly but it has happened so many times that Im starting to question that. Anyone have any ideas?

Most likely the tanks are too close to you and clipping you with the 'near' wind stack. Melees can't survive both the tether and a wind stack simultaneously.

Is it possible to cheese the LP/Pair stacks right after quadruple crossing by always going 1:3 - Tanks on A/C, Healer+ Dps on B/D? meaning the tank needs survive the buddy stack with mit, and 3 remaining members the party stack, making it irrelevan which one appears? That one seems to be a bit of a tripping stone in PF.

Nope. Partner stacks hit hard enough that when you get hit by 2 of them as a non-tank, you die. They're also random on all 4 tanks/healers, or on all 4 DPS. Putting potentially 4 AOEs on the same spot if you put healers/dps in one party and it happens to select the DPS. No amount of mitigation will handle that. Just do the mechanic normally, it happens early enough and often enough that you will just automatically do it right after a while and it needs very little thought.

@@Hailtothegun i fail to see how taking a tether and stacking with LPs in a predetermined spot is elitist OR hard in any way. That's litetally smooth brain thinking there buddy. Even vanilla week one strat w/out tank invuln is incredibly easy to understand. It took my static one pull where we saw the mech to understand it - and we went in true blind on week 1. The issue is, pf turns their one working braincell off and expects the fight to be handed to them. That or all they care about is "dur, number go higher" and wipe to greed.

B and D should be in the middle between that marker and the boss. B and D are absolutely USELESS in this position. Doing this allows for light party stacks to not get confused during the first 9 lives attack and it helps with cardinal partner stacks as people don't have to run too far. Personally, I'm at the point I don't even need markers but this is just my 2 cents.
