Here's a variation of a step up to consider. Keeping the knee forward throughout will make the quad work a lot harder, especially at the bottom. In this variation we also kept the top heel up, which forces the calf to work harder throughout the step up at well.
Just a variation; some things to consider if you need a more stable knee, or stronger foot and ankle.
