Set against the backdrop of war, alliances, intrigue, and betrayal, the nine songs relate the struggle of a people needing to redefine themselves in order to survive this turbulent time. While the band's musical path continues to explore traditional pagan metal, it proves to be much more resolute and aggressive than ever before. The characteristic clean sound of both Heidevolk vocalists recounts the stories comprising "Batavi", while heavy guitars, thundering drums, and folk melodies build the foundation of each track: at times sweeping and at others melancholic. Peter Tägtgren's mix masterfully defined the band's sound on this 2012 release. "Batavi" catapults the listener directly onto the north-western European battlefields of the Roman Empire.

i am surprised the use of two singers is not more common, back in the 1980's i used to see this hardcore band from Rhode Island USA that had two singers and it worked so well. that band was called the idle rich...worked in hardcore then and still works in pagan metal...should see more of it today, and yes Heidevolk is awesome.

I saw them play Winnipeg Canada for Paganfest 2013. Totally awesome, as in I really was in awe. I picked up "Uit oude ground" and a tee-shirt. at the show.. wish now I had also bought "Batavi". But Pagan metal does get me a drinking and after spending $ on other bands merch at the Paganfest show, I blew the rest of my $ on beers.. If I am ever lucky enough to see Heidevolk play live again, I make sure to bring extra beer and merch money..

Some people even include Belgium (capital Brussels) as part of the Netherlands (capital Amsterdam), which is not correct. Holland is in fact 2 provinces of the Netherlands, Holland South an Holland North.

they are from Holland and sing (in Dutch) about the history of their home province Gelderland. their songs usually tell about Germanic mythology and the aforenamed subject. this song is about the batavian people, and the fight with their Roman suppressors. although somebody who knows the Dutch history better than me can correct me on that. the title of this song translates to 'as death smiles at us again'. I'm Dutch myself and hope that i didn't make too much mistakes in my English.
