I always enjoy going along on your adventures with Brent - you’re such nice people. ….and thanks for the answer on the Hereford question. I guess some people may find the answer a bit inhumane, but at the heart of it, a farm is a business that has to support the farmers in a sustainable way.

Thanks so much, I’m glad you enjoy joining us 😊 I agree farming is a business and it's not always easy to make choices that fit the "ideal" of what people want, but we try to do our best. 🙂

I have a small farm in West Virginia. I keep some beef cattle. I like to breed my cows in the spring. My neighbor across the fence has cows and likes to breed in the winter. We both used to keep bulls. They would fight and keep the fence tore up. Finally he sold his bull and now we just open the gate and put my bull back and forth. He has him in the winter and I have him in the summer. It’s easier on the fence!

Hello Taylor, Great video and great explanations...on the large beef, dairy, and grain farm that I grew up on, we stayed away from Herefords...we had better luck with Angus beef cows and Angus bulls for breeding (Angus) beef cows...great tail hair cutting...you made it look easy, but I know that the tails of cows can have a lot of debris on them and the tails can have sticky substances including cow poop, especially during cold weather...thanks for a very enjoyable video...Lonnie from MIchigan

Good Morning Taylor, Love watching your videos on the simple life on the farm. You are a very hard working person, you go above and beyond. Love seeing the baby calf’s. The calf’s you do keep, maybe you could do a video on them growing up and becoming part of the milking herd. We live in Canada about 2 hours east of Toronto and we have a lot more snow than you have. What is a typical winter for where you guys are.

Actually Dutch Belted cattle are related to Belted Galloway cattle. The Dutch Belted breed is thought to be a direct descendant of the original belted cattle, and the Belted Galloway is believed to be a cross between the Dutch Belted and Galloway cattle.

Taylor just letting you know we have mainly all holsteins until now we we just got 25 jerseys and you were talking about the sawdust we have a live bottom trailer that's 50 ft long we only have to get sawdust about once every 3 weeks we're going to probably have to get it a little bit more often now because we eventually are going to add another 25 to 30 Jersey to make it somewhere around 50 to 60 that will put us up to somewhere around in the neighborhood of about 320 that will milk we going to keep the milk from the Jersey separate tank because we're going to do separate deal cuz we're going to use the because of the high butter fat on a jersey so we going to make butter and sour cream and stuff at all out of that cuz we are doing our own not yet but we're going to be doing our own milk products and everything hopefully somewhere around by the middle of February thank you very much Taylor I enjoy your videos a whole lot Taylor

I always love riding along to the sawmill. Such beautiful countryside there! Miriam gets blueberry waffles 😁 so she was happy to see ya'll eating blueberry pancakes. Such a beautiful calf young lady and I have a question. I see dairy farmers around breeding with black Angus because of the larger calves they produce. Would they be good milk producers as Angus is a beef cow? Just curious as we raised herfords on my Dad's farm growing up. Everyone in Northeast Arkansas says hey Taylor and Brent especially Miriam 👍🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙏🙏🐄🚜

Another great video Taylor, I always enjoy your road trips out to the sawmill and the chance to see some of the local area. You seem to collect quite a load of sawdust, but it doesn't seem to take long for you to use it all. Would the cows not stay in their stalls if you didn't have the neck chain on them. I don't think I've ever seen neck chain on cows in England, one farmer I know the cows have to be free to be able to wander to the Lely Astronaut robot milker whenever they feel they have to be milked, and they just wander back to the stall after milking . Best Wishes, Tony.
